Yeah, I'm usually not the suck up-type - but you guys had a very good sound. A lot of what you hear on these boards just sounds like simplistic underground bullsh!t, and you guys seem like you'll hit it big.
Man thanks alot, I appreciatte that. Some of the guys kinda browse through here after I told them about it and they all are appreciative of the comments as well. Were working hard, beating our heads on the wall at times but I think were making progress.
That's cool, but what about your day jobs? If your touring I mean, wouldn't that set that back a bit?
Well, we will be at a point that our jobs will be irrelevant. If and when this happens it will be a life changing process that will take priority over everything. Our main purpose right now is to concrentrate on the music and the ideas were writing about.
Ok man, sorry for the little mix up. It sounds great, it's always great to hear another smart band is starting. I know you all love Tool, but when you start writing your own stuff do you think you'll go progressive? Can't WAIT to hear some stuff, maybe you might end up inspiring me to actually learn drums.
The direction were moving is definiatly progressive. The Tool influence is a hard thing to overcome. We actually started over and threw away all the material we had worked on up to date. We finally made the foundation to a song yesterday that is pretty amazing, when its done I'll post it up. |

Ken, do you have anything recorded at all that you could post up that I could hear? I missed out before when you posted the Tool recording.
|
Yea, I have tons of stuff but it is all in its infancy. I promise I will post up some stuff when it gets close to completion. The people who come to our studio when we practice all love it, they all can't get over how much Seth sounds like Maynard.
|
You know, the 300th page is comng up soon, and you know the best post to celebrate it?
Ken's recording links :D Im still loving the fact you've found a Maynard. |
I am off this weekend, the kit is micced up, and I plan to record some tracks and hopefully have them posted up tomm. night. I am probably going to record them with the good ol Roland VS2480 so Im gonna have to break out the owners manual and try to remember how its done haha. One of the guys in Crutch, Seth, is actually excited about the on-line Tool band compelation and offered to do the vocals if you guys want him to. I think you guys will be VERY VERY VERY pleased if he would do them.

looking forward to some music links

^^^ ANYTHING, and I do mean anything is possible. Your only limited by the bonds that you apply to yourself. If you come up with 100 excuses as to why you can't do something then more than likely you are afraid to make the jump. The majority of people are more comfortable remaining secluded and not sticking it out there. For them it is better to have reasons to not try for something than it is to stick it out there and be a public failure.
The main thing I see people use as an excuse is money. I have a way that ANY band can make money but you have to keep your goal in mind while doing it. I can't tell you how many times I have learned a song I despise but keep thinking, "A means to an end", and sucked it up and learned the song. If you need to make cash to buy equipment or save up money to take the next step in your music career, start up a classic rock band. You need to target the money crowd, people in thier 30's to 50's who are dropping cash. More importantly target the RICH crowd, Doctors, Lawyers, professional types who think nothing of dropping 1500 to 2000 bucks for a show. People will say it doesnt happen but I promise you it does. Play stuff from The Eagles, 80's pop music like 8675309 to Garth Brooks and songs like Hey Ya, play music that makes people happy and takes them to a place they remember as good times. When these people start having a good time and get liquored up you will be AMAZED at how many will start shoving cash in your face to play a song. It is not un-common for Stagefright to get NICE tips or asked to play a certain song for 20 bucks. Alot of times we will be ending a show at 1am and people will pay us to play another hour or so. This is a great way to earn money for gear or to save up to quit your job to concentrate on your original music. There is SOOOO much more to this that I have actually considered writing a book on how to make money in todays music market. I have literally only scraped the surface on ways to have a successful band and make some nice cash. |
sounds sick sonorken cant wait

if you fail at the music thing ken, just become a motivational speaker. I've picked up the guitar after reading that.
And off topic (as always). JoZ and Rob will be glad to hear I bought Awake AND Images And Words today. For £11. BARGIN! |
Strong rumours are that adam plays through 10 synths or something on that song  yeh, thats what JoZ was getting at
one synth, just uses it as a bunch of distortion pedals, thats where the instant feedback and pick scrapes the come out of no where (can do the feedback obviously but the pick scrapes that aren't pick scrapes are a mystery to me) |

BARGIN!
Rob = clearvision right?? bah, who cares, nice pick up Anyway, Ken, I'm looking foward to hearing some of Crutch's original material. You seem incrediblely dedicated to your music and as far as I'm concerned, that's one of the best positions a band can be in. Your vocalist should also have a crack at a few of the on-line Tool covers. If he's excited about it, why shouldn't we be the same. :thumb: |
Thanks guys, I'll talk to him about it, he will be VERY happy. Im trying to get the guys to join the forum. For the most part they feel that the only part of the forum they would connect with would be this part of the forum haha. Anyway, I'll talk to them about joining up.
Some Tool related news, I had 2 different people call me today and say that they heard Tool was recording, any truth to this? |
well, Blair has kind of been teasing again. I actually want to hear what comes out of Danny's 'thing' when it happens.
And your bands members would most probably be useful members to this forum. So I don't see why they shouldn't join up. Chances are they will also open themselves up to new styles of music or artists by joining here, as most people who stick with mx for a while seem to do. I have mx to thank for the majority of music I've opened myself up to over the past year. |
New Lateralus review up on Sputnik.
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=2246 |
Just read it. Check out my comment for my love of it (better than Bartenders :p)
|
I told 'Tender I was planning on doing my own version. He and I both know my reviewing skill now is better than his was then at no fault of his own. It was time for a new review that contrasted a bit. I still said it was great, but also that it is not the greatest. Everyone in this thread should read it.

I just read it as well, excellent work. I left a comment also AJIG.
|
It was an OK review... I would have to disagree with the replying thing though, as I can pop Lateralus in at any time even know, and still enjoy it to the fullest.

I just can't wait till I'm a bit older, when I don't have to worry about rides to band practices (I should be a t practice right now... couldn't get a ride :() and about money and stuff. Me and the band should be doing some local shows kinda soon we think. How many songs do you think a band should get down (original I mean) to play some shows? Because as of right now we have about 5 or 6 down, and we were thinking that would be enough to play some shows. But I just wanna get some more input on it, and seeing how all of you pretty much are cool people, and alot are in bands, I thought I'd ask here :) |
Some Tool related news, I had 2 different people call me today and say that they heard Tool was recording, any truth to this?
According to Toolband they've been recording since the start of the year, and they've got at least 2 songs recorded (probably more, since the update that said they had gotten another song down was months ago). And we've got a new logo so... at least we know it's going to be out this year! *goes back to dreaming if Tool were to tour with Meshuggah and/or Fantomas* |
*goes back to dreaming if Tool were to tour with Meshuggah and/or NIN*
Fix'd For me anyway :p And I think its pretty possible that NIN and Tool could go together, because the Tapeworm thing kinda shows that they can be buddies (MJK and Reznor), and both should be touring later on in the year. I know for a fact that NIN is touring later on in the year. I hope Tool will be also. |
I met an awesome old friend today, and we caught up and apparently he plays guitar now. he's such a cool guy. He's moving somewhere else recently and he said he'll find room to jam. I fecking love this guy, even more-so than I did before.
