Firecracker 10-29-2005 02:28 PM

I like that particular song, but i don't want to listen to others. It's like when i first got into Dream Theater, i didn't want to listen to anything other than 'In The Name Of God' because i thought, if i didn't like the rest of it, i would like that song less, and i didn't want that to happen because i liked that song so much.
Maybe i should give them another chance.

i am the robots 10-29-2005 02:29 PM

I am still fecking excited about Monday night.

But the energy goes into the music, not the show, so it's all good.
I wanted to apologize for all that crap last night. I admittedly was fed up and persisted in reporting Flynn and continued going after him on his points long after I should have gone to bed and just have been done with it. I know that Riva was pretty much as annoyed with me as he became with Flynn, so once again, I apologize. It wasn't a unilateral thing of Flynn ruining the thread's atmosphere in this case: it was the both of us. I'm sorry, guys. :(

EDIT: And on a positive note, I see Opeth on Thursday. :D
It's OK, you weren't being a dick like he was.

And I don't get to see Opeth on this tour :upset: If my fall break were taking place a week later I'd be home in Philly on Halloween when they're playing, but I'm not...and that's 5 hours away. :upset:

I admire you for you grace and tolerance. That is something I would not have been able to do.
We all took it too far, let's leave it at that.

Who is Opeth touring with right now?
I would also like to praise you for your calm and cool under all that pressure, esspecially since you are a new user.

I would also like to say that I stopped posting in this thread because of all the "right opinions" that were controlling everything. But im glad everything is now back to normal, or close. I will now do my duty and try to participate in this thread as much as I possibly can.

But thats pretty darn hard since the most popular topic here seems to be the live shows which I will probably never experience since i live in South Africa.

I do envy you guys. Soooooo badly. :upset:

But I would like to add that I listened to the song Blackwater park for once ina long time, and it was ace. That is surely one of their best songs ever. The ending is just brilliant.:)

Quoted for Truf.
I really want to see Opeth again now. I love Mikael's stage prescence, he's so subdued yet he manages to be hilarious and captivating all the time. Was the show in Canada, or did he just say he liked Canadian music for no reason? I'm glad they still play Demon of the Fall as an encore, too.
Mikael's dry sense of humor rocks :p Nope, the show was in Toronto. Also, like Mikael said, they're coming back in February, go see them then.
It was an awesome awesome show. The Grand Conjuration PWNED live.
"This is a song about Satan. And we all know that everyone loves Satan"
And that song is wicked live.

/NP The Grand Conjuration...ahhh memories :D
We all took it too far, let's leave it at that.

Their west coast North American tour was with Pelican, and currently they're touring with Nevermore.
But the energy goes into the music, not the show, so it's all good.
Exactly, and you can really see that with the way the fans react to it :p

How's Lopez's replacement?

Rounder 10-29-2005 08:18 PM

I have this song i got from my brother but it is labeled wrong I Think. Its labeled Orchidia, but I dont think that is an Opeth song. Its about 3:22 in length, and its instrumental. It starts out with a shuffle played on a distorted guitar by itself then the band kicks in. My bet is that it is Epilogue. Anyone know what it is? Lots of drumming chops played over fairly straightforward rhythms and there is a child's laugh near the end.
How's Lopez's replacement?
Decent. He pretty much plays the songs note for note as they were on the album...although the fact that Lopez DOESN'T is what I like about him as a player. There were a few instances where you could kinda tell Martin (yes, the new guy is ANOTHER Martin) was starting to drift slightly, and Mendez kinda knocked him back in (this was very slight, and as a drummer, I was probably the only one there not on stage who noticed). Still, for a fill in, Martin 3 is performing great and he wasn't weak in areas that I was afraid he would be (the soft sections). I was looking forward to seeing Lopez's new setup, though...I'm almost 99% sure that those fills leading into the choruses of "Grand Conjuration" are actually played on bongos...they tend to sound alot like that when played on with sticks. No bongos at my show, unfortunately. :(

Anyways, I'm really hooked on My Arms...Your Hearse. I think I'm finally starting to get what everyone is saying about it....previously, it hadn't really done much for me, but it's really starting to grow. It's a very unique album, even for an Opeth record.

Shadows 10-29-2005 08:41 PM

MAYH was my favorite Opeth for a while. Great stuff.

Damn them, what the hell is their fetish for Martins??

Shattered_Future 10-29-2005 08:53 PM

I hope Webster Hall blows up Wednesday.

Stupid 18+ requirement...

Have fun Cain. Be sure to bring back lots of details.

I've never totally liked Lopez live.. for the reasons you mentioned. He has tended to speed up sometimes, and the looser feel he has live makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, if that makes sense. His beats are awesome though.

 That's not very nice.

And the show is on Thursday, but I guess it's not that ingrained in your mind since you're not going... ;)

And I will surely bring back lots of details. I'm going with a few friends, so that should be nice.

*shrug* I just find it really boring when bands play live exactly like they do on record.

I agree with Det in this case.

If so, it would explain his/her overly emotional response to things he/she ever disagrees with.

That's a bit of an unfair stereotype, don't you think? Plenty of guys get overly emotional about disagreements too.

Hence the fact that everyone thought it was a guy....

epihasi 10-30-2005 05:41 AM

Anyway, Hey all. Which song(s) would you guys absolutely love to see live, if you could choose. Mine would probably be:
-The moor
-April Ethereal
-Night an the silent water (Although, the chance of that happening is zero)
-To bid you farewell
-Windowpane
-Blackwater park
-Still day beneath the sun
-Patterns in the Ivy II
-Forest of October
-Serenity painted Death

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 05:51 AM

Mine would have to be:-
The Grand Conjuration
To Bid You Farewell
Demon of The Fall
Wreath
Black Rose Immortal
Harvest
Dirge for November
When I saw them, they didn't play anything earlier than BWP, which was a bit gay. We were all chanting for Demon of the Fall at the end, but they played A Fair Judgement instead. Which was class. It was in Shepherds Bush Empire BTW. It got filmed for Lamentations :p I ;put harvest there because I didn't really know the song when I saw them and I'd love to see them play it now knowing the words and stuff.

Cain 10-30-2005 12:27 PM

 These "which Opeth songs do you love" lists are never gonna end, are they?

Personally, I'm hoping for a minimum of Deliverance and Blackwater Park (except for the highlights) and a few Ghost Reveries tracks and stuff from Still Life and MAYH.

I would also love a Morningrise track or two, but I doubt they'd play it.

Four more days. :D

It's Orchidia by Porcupine Tree. It's from the Futile EP. Good song.

My ideal Opeth live set (off the top of my head, not carefully considered) would be:
The Moor
Harvest
Bleak
A Fair Judgement
Any Damnation song
The Grand Conjuration
Face of Melinda
Advent
Encore: Blackwater Park

Shattered_Future 10-30-2005 12:49 PM

I have no idea what mine would be...

It would include, though:

The Leper Affinity
Bleak
By The Pain I See In Others
Forest Of October
anything except To Bid You Farewell from Morningrise
Harvest
Windowpane
The Grand Conjuration
The Mire
Demon Of The Fall

ok lateralus 10-30-2005 01:35 PM

mine would be:
Black Rose Immortal
Demon of the Fall
The Moor
The Leper Affinity
A Fair Judgement
Deliverance
In Mist She Was Standing
The Drapery Falls
Ghost of Perdition
Windowpane

the2stranger 10-30-2005 01:40 PM

ooh
list time :)

The Moor
Ghost Of Perdition
Deliverance
A Fair Judgement
In My Time Of Need
Weakness
Blackwater Park
The Drapery Falls
Advent
When

encore

Demon Of The fall

Jude 10-30-2005 01:48 PM

Blackwater Park definitely seems like it would be a better encore than Demon. Longer, and the ending is intense instead of winding down and mellowing out.

If they did TWO encores, Demon would be good for the first one.
