funkyhoney 09-27-2009 09:13 AM

Come back to Australia and I'll show you a friend ;)

gaslight 09-27-2009 10:26 AM

Funky, sixers and fivers under AUS$2000, preferably under AUS$1750. Any ideas?

However as far as 5 strings go I'd probably just get a yamaha of some description or an ibanez. A Cort GB35a would be good budget option, I have the 4 string version ($400) and it's just fine. Or even the GB75, I've heard very good things.

Sablate McNuff 09-27-2009 06:31 PM

Do you guys have a big site like SamAsh or MusiciansFriend have for the US? I'll gladly take a look and offer up opinions.

I played a Rockbass Corvette 5 that I was really impressed with the other day. Nice playing neck. Very comfortable....not like the huge necks they've used for the past 10 years.

funkyhoney 09-27-2009 06:51 PM

Not really...

There's a bass centre in like, sydney or melbourne or something though.

Sablate McNuff 09-27-2009 07:14 PM

Rockbass Corvette $$
Rockbass Active Corvette
Ibanez BTB
Spector Legend Classic
G&L Tribute (I've heard they are great basses)

You might be able to find a used Spector Euro 5 for the price, but in spite of the tone and superb build quality, I found the necks a bit too chunky for my taste.

funkyhoney 09-27-2009 07:38 PM

I'm still not sure if I want to sell my 6 string or not legitimately. I never use it but at the same time I want it.

Pluperfect_Arson 09-27-2009 08:05 PM

I have the same problem.

Epidemechanical 09-27-2009 08:06 PM

Cool man, your sixer isn't bad but I've never had a bass with only pick-up.

I'm most likely leaning towards Ibanez, I have a bit of brand loyalty with them and their feel and cost is right up my alley.

It only has one tone :(

Fortunately it's a nice one! If I could find another decent 6 string I'd get rid of mine, it just sits there and mocks me.

Sablate McNuff 09-27-2009 10:38 PM

This sucks. The pickguard didn't fit, and in lieu of modifications, it would not line up with the holes and control plate.

The control plate didn't fit exactly, and it's much shorter than the original. Both parts have been modified and I can't return them. I now have to have Pickguards.com cut a custom pickguard for me and have the jack plate powder coated.

gaslight 09-27-2009 10:38 PM

I'd get a GSR206 if they had 24 frets but unfortunately they don't. I figure I might as well have a 6 string, however cheap, just in case I end up teaching anyone with a sixer at my new job. I bet I just end up with an SR506 or something.

That BTB Prestige 6-string is great. I play it every time I'm in the local SamAsh.

gaslight 09-27-2009 10:43 PM

Yeah, I've never been able to enjoy the body shape of the BTBs though and unfortunately Ibanez Prestige models start at about $1500 more than I'm willing to spend. They have some nice ones though, I really love the SR4000E.

What? I checked on the website Funky sent me and everything I suggested was under your price limit.

I had a similar issue, but the 1-2mm gap between my pickguard/control plate I can live with. Although my plate does have 1 too many holes in it.

I just got my Schaller strap locks and evidently my bass uses some massive *** screws as it was built 31 years ago. So the screw don't grip... yay.

I'm gonna have to drill out the buttons ever so slightly. Either way, it kinda pissed me off. I also accidently ordered solid post pot knobs instead of split, but luckily I could just tighten them and they look mint.

funkyhoney 09-27-2009 11:03 PM

How could anyone not like music made by this:

Oh, sorry I didn't check your ones. I was going off how the SR prestige series tend to cost over $3G.

gaslight 09-27-2009 11:24 PM

Looks good in photos =/= needs to be listened to.

I've already told you to download the album at least 4 times.

gaslight 09-27-2009 11:32 PM

I listened to that single of hers you linked us to on youtube but it didn't make me want to hear the album :(.

The Spector Legend 5 looks okay on that site, Cort B5 Fretless is cute for the money too. One seventh the price of the Ibanez GWB1005 :p.

funkyhoney 09-27-2009 11:47 PM

Cort Artisan A and B series are fantastic.

gaslight 09-28-2009 12:49 AM

Mmm Cort are solid performers.

Maybe I should just get a six for now, get a 5 for the hell of it at a later time. That way I spend the least money for the most usefulness in the short term. I want a nice fretless but I have a home made fretless that I can just stick some pickups in sometime.

I'll probably hit up whatever deal I can get on an SR506, maybe an SR706 if I can get a really good deal.

BenJammin 09-28-2009 05:28 AM

The SR506 is a solid bass. I rocked mine for about 4 years before more-or-less retiring it.
