Jon 12-24-2003 11:15 AM

Only 1 review of the London shows  ?

Gimme a minute and I'll post mine, needless to say it kicked some ***.

Jon 12-24-2003 11:33 AM

Short review

Setlist as I remember it:
Battery
Four Horsemen
Ride The Lightning
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Fight Fire With Fire
Harvester of Sorrow
Master of Puppets
Dirty Window (+ Solo  )
Frantic

*Encore*
Nothing Else Matters
Creeping Death
Seek And Destroy

*Encore*
One
Enter Sandman

*Half-encore*
Disposable Heroes? 30 seconds of something, can't remember what it was, then:
Blitzkrieg

So I get there at 2:30pm (Doors open at 6), we get to queue inside. I guess there were already 100 people there. So we hang around in the queue, go off to Burger King to get takeaway Super Large XL Double Whopper's (Big hole in me wallet from that dinner), then we get to go in. So we run, and I mean ****in run so that we get stopped by the security guards. Anyway, we get there (standing, that is) and we have a lovely chat with these cool people around us, who hype us up for Godsmack, who weren't half bad.

So Godsmack play, they weren't terrible (OH MY GOD THAT LES PAUL!!!), and end their set with the infamous Drum Duel. And the vocal-type-dude from Godsmack kept reassuring us that they'd shut the **** up soon and let us listen to the Gods Of Metal.

So Metallica have the worst roadies ever who take 1/2 hour to set up their stuff, then finally Metallica break into Battery. As I said, there were two people between me and James (excluding the bouncer-dudes). I was getting ****ing crushed, so after a few songs I move back again (And start breathing again). So that was all cool, and it ****ing ruled. And I had a really cool mosh around me, but without those skinhead twats that were at the front.

*More to come in an eensey bit*

richie_666 12-24-2003 12:06 PM

metallica are ****. i quit my last band cos they all bumed them you should find some real music like Misfits and murderdolls

Jon 12-24-2003 01:52 PM

You want fries with that deathwish?

kirk_wylde 12-24-2003 02:19 PM

I saw metallica 2 (on saturday) they were awsome

Firecracker 12-24-2003 02:55 PM

i wanna see them.

zeppelin_rules_62 12-24-2003 03:10 PM

Arghh.. I couldn't get tickets. Did anyone see them at Earls Court? What did they play?

hex135 12-24-2003 03:25 PM
metallica are ****. i quit my last band cos they all bumed them you should find some real music like Misfits and murderdolls
dude, this is not the place for you to come and say what we should and shouldnt listen to, especially when ur saying not to listen to metallica. 1, we listen to whoever the fu(k we want. 2, who r u to say wats "real music". 3, i'm not gonna get into the punk vs metal argument, cause its pointless

SO....if u dont like metallica, dont post here. btw, misfits are awesome, but metallica is godly

YDload 12-24-2003 10:15 PM

I got a X-mas eve present known as "Ride the Lightning" tonight. The only song I've heard on it beforehand was "Fade to Black," and I really liked the rest of the album. Maybe I'll do a review someday after I get a better opinion of the songs.

Creeping Death=awesome
Escape= cheesy, but I still like

timmccarty143 12-24-2003 11:29 PM

the best song on that album would have to be fight fire w/ fire, cuz its thrashy or call of ktulu cuz it just kicks ***

RideTheSpiral 12-25-2003 06:22 AM

Might see Metallica at Big Day Out if I can be bothered and can spare the $110 for the ticket.

Blitz 12-25-2003 06:46 AM

my favourite songs on Ride the Lightning would have to be Fade to Black and Call of Ktulu.

RockerGav 12-25-2003 09:49 AM

Ride The Lightning is an amazing album.

I got it expecting it not to be half as good as MOP, boy was I wrong. Its my favourite thrash album I own, no question. (And I own Rust in Peace).

Escape, can't for the life of me think how that goes.....But I remember liking it.

superpeer 12-25-2003 10:25 AM

^
told you so :D

It is my favourite metallica album

bball_1523 12-25-2003 12:26 PM

Ride The Lightning is a great album. I don't have it yet but I really enjoy the songs like 'Fade To Black' and 'Ride The Lightning.'
My friend just linked me that, someone please say its not true.

Jon 12-25-2003 12:56 PM

Wow, my setlist guess was so wrong. Here:

Battery
The Four Horsemen
Ride The Lightning
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Frantic
Sad But True
Dirty Window
Harvester Of Sorrow
Master Of Puppets
Fight Fire With Fire
-----
Seek And Destroy
Nothing Else Matters
Creeping Death
----
One
Enter Sandman
----
Blitzkrieg
Motorbreath

How could I have missed off Motorbreath seeing as its my favourite song?

BlackNightFalling 12-25-2003 03:30 PM

i hope james didn't die, and what does IMO mean?

Jon 12-25-2003 03:34 PM

IMO = In my opinion

Actually, I doubt he's died, because I would have put a knife in my neck if he is.

hex135 12-25-2003 04:21 PM

he's not dead. something like this happened a while ago in the punk forums where they said that blink 182's old drummer was dead or something. people who start those things are homos with nothing better to do. especially at this time of year. whoever started that should be banned

Firecracker 12-25-2003 04:23 PM

it's appalling.
pretending people are dead.
absolutely horrible.

Jon 12-25-2003 05:04 PM

It was on a different forum (which will remain nameless to benefit Jeremy), so banning won't help. Actually, I think the person was banned, but it scared the fuck out of me.

Now back to reality, any one know where I can get a Metallica wrist/sweatband off the net (or anywhere in London)?

Squirrel 12-25-2003 05:37 PM

You mean like Hetfields? if you do ive got a site for that - i'll try finding it for you ( later, off to bed soon ).

hex135 12-25-2003 05:49 PM

if ur part of the metallica club, you can go to metclub.com. and go to the 'met store'. they sell EVERYTHING metallica, and its all licensed merchandise

timmccarty143 12-25-2003 08:39 PM

bump to da pump to da home jiz!!
metallica rulez!

YDload 12-25-2003 10:18 PM

Here's a really weird thing I noticed ( I may even dedicate a separate thread to this): I also got "Number of the Beast" for X-mas, and being able to listen to these two great albums (the other one is Ride the Lightning) back to back has got me thinking. The loud bell that chimes in the beginning of both "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" sound like they have the exact same pitch. Can anyone verify this?

I can verify that "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is better :thumb:

btoto 12-26-2003 06:20 AM

i'm going to start a new research. i don't know if this has ever been done before but...anyway. the question is:

1.which metallica song(maybe 2 or 3) you dislike the most(maybe even hate)?
2. why?

so, mine is :

the memory remains
especially i hate marian's voice !
altough the song sounds good in S&M

i'm a huge metallica fan, but when i heard this song... :(

so, please all tallica fans, answer to my question

thanks beforehand

kirk_wylde 12-26-2003 08:45 AM

Holier than thou.. dunno why just don't like it

Jon 12-26-2003 09:08 AM

Most things post-Justice, apart from NeM, Sandman and Fuel.

Because I think they suck :thumb:
You mean like Hetfields? if you do ive got a site for that - i'll try finding it for you ( later, off to bed soon ).
I have no idea if he has one, but that link would be great!

Its not on the official metallica store, and I'm not a member of MetClub (I might join though), if you are can you please tell me if they sell them.

RockerGav 12-26-2003 10:43 AM

2 or 3 I dislike....trying to pick from pre-black stuff here btw.

1. One. I know its a classic Met song, but although the intro is great I find it heavily overrated and I just don't like it.

2. The Thing that should not be. Nowhere near as good as the rest of the album.

3. St Anger. (I was struggling okay?)

Ramsey 12-26-2003 10:53 AM

*Takes it to MSN*

Killa_Bee 12-26-2003 11:35 AM

I saw Metallica live in Earls Court on Friday the 19th! They totally kicked ***

Setlist:

Blackened
Creeping Death
Seek and Destroy
Fade To Black
The Thing That Should Not Be
Frantic
For whom the Bell Tolls
Dirty Window
Sad But True
One
Damage Inc.
-----------
Harvester Of Sorrow
Nothing Else Matters
Master Of Puppets
-----------
St. Anger
Enter Sandman
-----------
Am I Evil?
Hit The Lights

Thats a great set-list to start with!!! The guys played the songs excellently and had the whole place signing along with every song and had us bouncing around aswell!! It was a totally awesome gig! I can't wait to see them live again :D

Jon 12-26-2003 12:00 PM

I think overall we had a better setlist.

We had Battery, you had Blackened, that was the only thing you had better than us. We got Motorbreath :p

Kickflip_Burrito 12-26-2003 12:17 PM

thats so different from the 20th Dec gig. very very different! we didn't get 'st. anger', 'hit the lights', 'thing that should not be', 'damage inc.' 'am i evil?', 'blackened' fade to black'.

Kickflip_Burrito 12-26-2003 12:20 PM

oh yeh, we got Battery, motobreath, blitzkreig, ride the lightning, the four horsemen, fight fire with fire, sanitarium. so overall, we got better. i wud've loved to see Blackened tho, i always thought that'd be a good opener. Battery is better.

Kickflip_Burrito 12-26-2003 12:22 PM

hey, whatever happened to Fuel??? neither of the gigs had it!! that song rocks!

kirk_wylde 12-26-2003 12:55 PM

I agree fuel would've been a good one

kirk_wylde 12-26-2003 03:04 PM

I was wondering If you could compose a dream metallica concert what would it be like. By this I mean what support band would cover and a setlist of twenty songs to be used in the said concert.

Mine would be-
Support act - Ozzy osbourne
Songs

Open with One
Battery
Fade to Black
Escape
Master of puppets
Seek and destroy
Motorbreath
Nothing else matters
Master of puppets
Orion
Welcome home (sanitarium)
Sad but true
Unforgiven II
Harvester of sorrow
For whom the bell tolls
Ride the lightning
Sad but true
Jump in the fire
Blitzkreeg
Astronomy
Probably left out some good ones But just from 20 songs (admitedly two covers) that would be my concert
