It baffles me how arousal even happened here.

Just look at the time duration of this act. It's not like they were building up for a half-hour, or five minutes, or anything without something happening. The way he presented his story made it sound like she went from a prone position, to on top of him, grinded (ground?) him twice, finally got the bright idea that she's "Not ready," and then back to a prone position in a matter of, say, twenty seconds.
