While camping I fell asleep listening to the slide guitar in High Hopes and hand a cool dream about my tent flying but other than that I've never fallen asleep to them.

WelcomeToTheMachine 01-18-2006 06:36 PM

my weirdest dream was probbaly the one where i was flying on the back on the pig from Animals listening to Dogs, that was ****ing weird.

MidnightRider 01-18-2006 08:02 PM

This is sort of out there, but has anyone here looked into lucid dreaming and that sort of thing? I read up on it once and tried a couple of things but never really got anywhere with it. I'm still really skeptical about it, but I don't want to shoot it down altogether without at least experimenting around with the idea a little more.

Thanks, I find stuff like that really cool, even if I don't belive it all. I'm not saying I don't belive in lucid dreaming, I think its possible just a lot of that new age energy stuff is weird, cool but weird.

I've been obsessed with that song A Saucerful of Secrets this past week, I just love how unorganized and loose the jam is, and how nothing they are playing is making any sense at all, but then at the end it just sort of comes together and then Dave starts with his droning vocal's its such a great song.

A dream when you know you are dreaming so you can control the dream. If I remember correctly

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 01-19-2006 12:46 PM

I've had many lucid dreams, happens every once in awhile. It's really cool, you can do anything. I can't believe none of you have ever been on one.

Deconstruction 01-20-2006 04:32 PM

Will I be disapointed by "The Final Cut"? I am listening to the Post War Dream and liking it alot.

I quite like the Final Cut. It's not my favourite, but a good one nonetheless.

As for lucid dreaming, well, I've had a few. In one, it was like I was a cross between Kenshi from Mortal Kombat and Belgarath from Eddings' books. I was insanely awesome.

Dude your avatar is incredible. Did you make it yourself?

So I've learned all the guitar parts for shine on you crazy Diamond PT one!

tons of fun. It would be more fun if my amp worked

Imho 01-20-2006 06:11 PM

If your in to Pink Floyd there is 4 records you really need; Dark side, The wall, Wish you were here and The final cut. As for myself I'm a complete Roger Waters fan, he's my god, he's my religion. Everything after "The final cut" is for me, not the Pink Floyd that i recognize, Pink Floyd without Roger is a VERY good pop/rock band, but thats as far as it goes ( for me ofcourse ). So "The final cut" for me is really the final cut, the final astonishing track of the best band ever - The Pink Floyd :)

AH! My first post :)

Deconstruction 01-20-2006 06:13 PM

Good first post at least. Welcome to MX, and to Riva, it should be here in about 2 days!!

Do you like Amused To Death, then?

Also, pop-rock post Waters?

And welcome to the forums!

I know that wasnt to me but, I haven't heard much of Amused to Death, as I just bought it yesterday. I think I will like it though.

I LOVE Syd's solo stuff..

Lunch 01-20-2006 07:59 PM

If Waters is your icon, how can you not love Animals? I think those are some of us most effective lyrics and it has some of his best singing.

Imho 01-21-2006 03:18 AM

hehe :) Amused to death is my numer one Roger Waters solist album. Ofcourse Animals is high up to,very high up, every Pink Floyd album is high up, I just mentioned my favorite foure ( just Pink Floyd albums, not Roger solist albums. If I was to put in Roger Waters album the list woud be different :) ) . The pros and cons of hitch hiking is also a great great album :)

EDIT; On later thougt Animals shoud be on that list. :p

Jim 01-21-2006 08:31 AM

Animals is the shiznit (sorry about ghetto euphemism, but it is). I should get The Final Cut. And Amused To Death is always staring me in the face at the CD store but I'm gonna wait a little bit more before I get it.
So I've learned all the guitar parts for shine on you crazy Diamond PT one!
I'm learning that now! Bit by bit of course. It's gonna be so effing cool when I'm done.

I like the lyrics, and the concept. Apparently, some feel the concept is too obvious and ovebearing. On a realted note, have you ever read the book Animal Farm?

MidnightRider 01-21-2006 12:18 PM

I've read Animal Farm, it's basically the exact same idea as Animals.
If you don't mind me asking, what is?
He got A Nice Pair (PATGOD, SOS) on vinyl.

It's a fun bit, but without anything behind it, just guitar, it's.. Meh. It's neat, but not that neat.

BigMike_Quebec_Canada 01-21-2006 01:07 PM

i finally learnt the first solo for comfortably numb last night, I want to learn the second one this week.

First US Pressing, Unedited, special edition sleeve!

robo2448 01-21-2006 01:20 PM

Actually Animals concept is kind of opposite of Animal Farm's concept. Animal Farm was opposing communism, while Animals is a tirade against the capitalistic society. I believe that they're connected and that Animals was partly inspired by Animal Farm, but they're two different concepts.

Nice vinyl pickups:thumb:

I heard the topics were realted, that's why asked. Waters sort of used the book for inspiration. Also, I think Animal Farm is supposed to be a politacal allegory about the Russian Revolution, too.

Deconstruction 01-21-2006 02:27 PM

I picked up Us and Them, The Symphonic Music of Pink Floyd, by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

:o :amaze:
I think it is stunning, some of it is a little bit different, and have longer intros etc, but overall, I couldn't have asked for more.

MidnightRider 01-21-2006 08:55 PM

This used cd store has that for like $4.99 just about every time I'm in there. I might pick it up next time, though I'm not sure how much I'd listen to it. It'd still be cool to have I guess.

I thought that album was incredible, personally. Although I wish there was more (any) cello spotlight.

I enjoy The Final Cut, but I don't think it's amazing or anything. DSOTM, The Wall, WYWH, Meddle, TDB, and Animals are all far better.

I enjoy it more than TDB, to be honest.
I picked up Us and Them, The Symphonic Music of Pink Floyd, by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
I quite like that, though they really did something weird with Time.
Riva, ITS HERE ITS HERE ITS HERE ITS HERE!
Congratulations are in order, I think.

MBS 01-22-2006 05:19 PM
Also, I think Animal Farm is supposed to be a politacal allegory about the Russian Revolution, too.
Yes, the rise of Russian Communism.

Spoilers

The farm animals all work together to kill the farmer who was ruling, but in the end, the pigs ended up ruling. So, it basically just led to another leader-run government, not the people-run government ideals of communism.

End

Animals, on the other hand, is about capitalism, I believe.

Riva 01-22-2006 05:22 PM

So it wasn't really against communism, rather that communism is an illusion, if you will. Hence it is similar to Animals, which deals somewhat with the evils of capitalism.
