sweet where? |
I can respect your opinion but Serj is definatly a talented vocalist.
id say hes more talented then many singers today but compared to Plant, Mercury, even Vedder hes only par...i shouldnt have said hes crap just not as good a musican as the drummer and the guitarist...how ever i stand by what i said about shavo |
I would the overall talent of each member like so:
Serj Tankian- Great lyricist, very wide vocal range. Very original John Dolmayan- Fairly good drummer as far as modern rock goes. Plus, he can write some cool little drum fills. Daron Malakian- There is nothing special about his guitar playing. Most of his riffs are just powerchords churned out as fast as possible without alt. picking. On Mezmerize, he did incorporate more unique scales to create some cooler exotic-sounding riffs in Radio/Video Shavo Odadjin- This man is just there because he has cool facial hair. He is hardly ever heard, and when he is, he is just following the guitar. |

Aren't you a little curious as to why everyone praises the first album so much? It's the Eastern riffs man! |

A lot of the stuff he does doesn't sound hard, but really is. For example, the Revenga chorus. Sounds simple enough, right? He's actually playing two completely differnt beats at the same (one with the left hand, one with the right). Very hard to do as you're using two very different timings at the same time. <--Indirect quote from my friend who's a drummer. Also, Daron is the main lyricist now. And as a guitarist myself, I think his writing is fairly interesting and unique, even if it is mostly based around powerchords. But thats just my opinion. |

Shavo just looks kool and he's just like any other bass player. and John does play good! well THEY ALL ROCK :naughty: |

Agreed.
John Dolmayan- Fairly good drummer as far as modern rock goes. Plus, he can write some cool little drum fills.
I like his drumming alot. He doesn't just use simple beats. I like his use of the little cymbals and that bell or whatever it is he uses live. It adds more originality to the songs imo. Daron is an above average guitarist, and most of his riffs have used powerchords most of the time. Although he has started to expand a little more like you pointed out in radio/video. Also he has added nice intros to most songs.
Shavo Odadjin- This man is just there because he has cool facial hair. He is hardly ever heard, and when he is, he is just following the guitar.
Agreed. Shavo is barely ever heard, and he's an ok bassist I guess. He is heard in psycho although nothing impressive as far as the bass goes. |

Only place in Wisconsin that people know about, Milwaukee.
I would the overall talent of each member like so: Serj Tankian- Great lyricist, very wide vocal range. www.yousendit.com Upload it and then post the link there. |
do i put musicianforums.com in the recopients address? or what..
ps i screwed up a couple times.. it was my first tiem playing the song in a long time |
No, leave the email blank.
|
ill send the stuff tomorrow.. im at home right now so i dont have it on my computer. ill also try to get violent pornography sent. soil isnt that easy especially when your just playing by yourself.
|
You should play along to the actual track.
|
I still think Dolmayan is very, very good. He has awesome drum-rolls, and plays some fast/complex music. Especially on the S/T. Listen to PLUCK especially. He's VERY VERY good on that song.
|
yea that song is pretty fast.. i was ginna try that but the cords always get in my way from the headphones.. i guess its worth a try.
|
I think Dolmayan is best on Sugar. He plays a pretty mean jazz beat for a rock drummer. Even though IEAIEO has a cool beat it's fairly easy.
|
yea that fast stuff on the ride is not easy. i cant get it down to well
|
I can do it but it takes effort, jazz is definately demanding.
On another note, I hope Hypnotize is a little wierder than Mezmerize. |
I can do it but it takes effort, jazz is definately demanding.

It also lacked in the lyrics department. Radio Video's lyrics were so repetative even though I love the song.
Serj > Daron |
I like darons vocals but thats it...IMO i thought the albums were much better when daron only did backup instead of takeing over...and since hes doing more on vocals it seems to have dimminished his guitar playing. He need to focus on playing more than singing and i think the albums would improve
|
I meant in terms of lyrics that Serj > Daron. Serj is a better singer too but somtimes I can go for some Daron. Alot of the songs just repeat the same line over and over on this one. I still love it though.
|
I hope Hypnotize is heavier than Mezmerize also.
|
Well Kill Rock N Roll And Holy Mountain sound amazing compared to stuff on mezmerize so I think Hypnotize is gonna be sweet :thumb:

I heard holy mountain, and didn't like it much. That could be due to sound quality too though. What I heard it was an "ok" track, I like stuff on mezmerize so much more. I didn't hear kill rock n roll yet though. |

I like Mezmerize a lot, so if any of the Hypnotize songs are better then I'll be very excited. Either way, I think I'll hold off on downloading them and just wait until the singles start showing up on the radio and MTV. If the first single from Hypnotize is anything like BYOB then it will be unavoidable on modern rock stations. |

Awesome job on the drums zero. I laid some guitar down. http://s16.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3KM7ACRZ6NE2Z1586OE15IMTVQ |
Speaking of BYOB, does anyone else find it to be one of the weakest tracks on Mezmerize? I mean, wtf, there is very little to it, even for a SoaD song. Maybe it's just the fact that I've heard it far too many times on the radio, but i really think that it was a bad choice for a single. Maybe they chose to release it because it had such a blunt(yet moronic) message to go along with it.
|
I still like BYOB but nowhere as much as most of other songs. The only song that I would rate even less than BYOB is cigaro. I liked cigaro before mezmerize came out but not much anymore.
|

IMO its an ok song but deffinantly not good enough for the single...I think the single instead of B.Y.O.B should have been Violent Pornography or Sad Statue. |
I skip that and Cigaro over when listening to Mezmerize.

Awesome tracks guys, Jmann could you send me the guitar track on its own? (skitgraves@gmail.com)
I need all the tracks seperate for the mixing. :thumb: I'll add the bass later, Do you have a copy of the tab you used? I'd be certain that what Im playing fits with the guitars then. Edit: If no-one is gonna step up for vocals I'll try get them done too :thumb: |

http://mxtabs.net/tab_versions.php?path=Guitar,s,1335,System+Of+A+Down,Forest,32837 Thanks I got the Track :D |
Holy mountain and kill rock n roll have a lot of promise for the new album those two songs were probably better than anything on mezmerize for some reason I hated mezmerize and system of a down when they released toxicity were my favourite band. :/
