I live in a ridiculously boring city, and I have to go about 10-15 minutes away to Long Beach for a Tower Records.
I've never been to a Tower Records. Any good?
I have to go to drive to a place that is 45 minutes away to a with a poor selection of metal if I want any none-mainstream metal...
I guess that's the price you paying for living on a mountain in the middle of a permanent ice storm, with nothing but a goat for transportation :)
They have some...but they are missing alot and it is a bitch to dig through the place to find what you want as well.
I actually love digging through stuff at record stores. |

I live quite aways out of Portland, and it is in the Downtown Portland area which adds another good 10-15 miles to my trek. And when I am looking for something specific I hate digging and the store is a mess when it comes to trying to find stuff quickly. Especially not worth is when you go searching for say Behemoth or Arcturus for 10-15 minutes all together and they have neither, as in never carry them. So meh, not my thing really. I did find a Vintersorg cd and snatched it up quickly since it was their only one. Edit : And the reason to why I don't like searching it, is the fact that they have all the genres mashed together. So say you are looking for a metal album, you will be looking through : punk, rock, jazz etc etc artists at the same time. |
Wait, where do you live?
Cypress, CA. |
Cypress, CA.
NICE! So good to see an MXer so close to me. I'm asumming you go to Lexington or that other Cypress high school... the name escapes me. |
Long Beach, but I go to Los Al.
Ah. I'm going to have to go to Cypress come freshman year, which sucks, because I sort of want to go to Los Al. |
24 is good so far, Efilnikufesin.
Hey guys.
So today in music appreciation we learned about punk, and I realized that I want to get back into it. I have dabbled with it in the past, but I want to learn some cool punk bands to check out. I feel the same way about metal. I am still very new to metal, and I want to learn some more. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Sup Chris? I am getting better with the rifle now :) |
Ah, I live pretty close to there [Oxford] too.
Haha, Milikan would have been quite a ride.
Yeah, I ride the public bus home from school, and I think I'm the only kid who likes classic rock who gets on that bus. Everyone's so gangster, it's scary. Like Poly  |
Everyone's so gangster, it's scary.

It depends for what kind of metal you want to get into. Said best by Bobo. |
What kind of metal are you after? Prog, death, black etc etc?
I want to give it all a try. I haven't heard much at all. |
I want to give it all a try. I haven't heard much at all.
Well, if you would like some time on AIM IM me and I can send samples of each genre that I have decent knowledge of... Since I know you are pretty open minded and won't reject stuff with out a decent reasoning, I think it would be worth the time. |

Haven't been on here much because my work comp is acting like a moron and IE always crashes on this site. Nice feature. Hitting up the rifles more ehh? I like the M91/30 or M1. I can't seem to hit anything with the k98. |

There are alot more, but those are some of my favorites. |
Anyone remember when I got banned? I think I have one more week, but I'm not sure.
8 days, four hours left according to The Machine.
Hey guys. So today in music appreciation we learned about punk, and I realized that I want to get back into it. The only metal that I've really heard is Dream Theater, if some consider that metal.
But I liked what I heard. "The Glass Prison" |

A lot of the bands that are really popular around here arent bands that a beginner would like. You should try some old-school thrash: Metallica Megadeth Slayer Anthrax Pantera(not really thrash) Or some Metalcore: Killswitch Engage Unearth Lamb of God(not really metalcore) |
Thanks Otherside, I will check them out. I also posted in the Punk forum to see what they all suggest.

Why were you banned Madey?
Out of curiosity; do you actually like the Sex Pistols? Or are you just recommending them for 'historical importance'?
Well, the SP arn't really historically important, IE they weren't really the first punk band to come out and revolutionize everything, but John Lydon was the only member I liked anyways, and the only reason to listen to the band. He was a great frontman. |
I've heard most of those bands, but not Anthrax and Unearth. I'll check them out, thanks dude.
In the YSI thread there is a link to an Unearth song called "This lying world", try that one. Its probly my favorite from them. |

Actually, they were one of the founders of punk, so I would say they have some historical importance. When I hear the word punk, I think of Ramones, Sex Pistols, and the Clash. But that's just me, I don't listen to much punk. |
Sex Pistols didn't found punk at all, they joined in after the craze had already initially began. Although, they might have taken punk further and made it more mainstream than the previous punk bands.

i agree^

Really? I would have said that they were incredibly important; they weren't the very first, but then it's not often that there is a definitive very first band to do something. The Pistols, along with The ****ed and The Ramones (I think) basically kickstarted the idea of punk, so I'd say they're worthy of being called important. I'd also say they're not worth bothering with to actually listen to, though. |
I've heard most of those bands, but not Anthrax and Unearth. I'll check them out, thanks dude.
Ask me anything if you need 'Thrax help, plz. Check out Death for a start on death metal. |
Bobo is going to give me Metal 101 on AIM
