geddy created the best lines on bass......
geddy is really good on bass.. It would be awesome if you started visitng this thread more.. Could always use some more regulars

Cain 09-18-2005 07:28 PM
yea pretty much m4a/mp4s are near impossible to transcribe for me. That and any AAC (usually protected files).

Sorry if your offended or anything Cain. Im just trying to help the fans - or soon to be fans.
It just struck me as weird that you'd be asking for so many albums. There was a point in life where I owned Rush's entire discography with the exception of Grace Under Pressure and Hold Your Fire. I waited to buy them all, instead of getting them from others. I lost about 75 percent of those CDs on a vacation, but I would still wait to buy them all again. It was just weird to me. It sounded like you wanted them all for yourself.

But I'm not mad or anything.

Distant Echoes 09-18-2005 07:31 PM

Oh no i dont wnat them all for myself. In fact, Im not even going to listen to the ones i dont have if people contribute. I agree it would be very selfish to keep them all for myself, i just wanna help out. If youd like to, you can send one, if not, its all good.

But hey, Im glad we cleared this out

Im actually close to putting together a cover with members who all love rush. The only problem is if were gonna cover them, were may need to kick our singer in the balls before having him to hit the notes geddy does.

thunderzstruck 09-18-2005 07:35 PM

I got the album uploaded..

aaaaand sent

Huber 09-18-2005 10:16 PM

I just bought the Rush In Rio DVD. I'm a little ways into it now, and man, what an amazing live performance. I can't wait until they tour again.

If you spell it right, you might get better results.

Distant Echoes 09-19-2005 05:45 PM

Hope you all enjoyed your little email package!

Thunderzstruck, I may not have gotten yours though. Let me know.

What? I sent it to you

Distant Echoes 09-20-2005 03:29 PM

I mean the full email of all the albums i sent. I got yours...and included it. Did anybody get my email?

Does anybody have any of Peart's DVDs too? I heard A Work in Progress wasnt that great, but I never heard anything about any of them

thunderzstruck 09-20-2005 04:18 PM

oooh ok

I didn't know Peart had dvds out. Know what they're about?

AWIP is the highest-selling drumming instructional DVD of all time (or so I've heard). I've heard mixed reviews, I guess it depends on your style of drumming. If you're into total perfectionism (like Peart), then it's probably a good buy (unfortunately, it's quite expensive).

theosd 09-20-2005 08:21 PM

Ok I was lynch-mobbed (well ok, maybe not) into posting this here as well as in it's own separate thread, so discuss at will!
"2112 is just plain terrible. Any story about a land where music has been band and a 'hero' finds a guitar, thus bringing music back to the masses may have appealed to me when I was 10 years old but now just sounds dated and comical. And as for the inside cover photo of the band...well, move over Freddie Mercury cos here come the winged crusaders from Canada!!"

From a local forum for local people - I wondered what everyone's views on this were?
I think it's along the lines of:

A F# G E F# D

I'm not sure, though. In order for it to sound right you need his settings. I just tabbed it out on a piano, and it doesn't sound right. But I think this is it. Also, timing is vitally important.

EDIT: On the topic of 2112, it is one of my favorite songs/albums and I think whoever said that doesn't have an open mind.

Ignorance. Sad.
Ignorance. Sad.
I'm so glad you think so, I was beginning to lose faith.

This just reaffirms my distaste for musicians' attitudes where I live (SE England). No one gets on with anyone else down here, and people disagree with people just for the sake of it! It's demoralising to think I have to live here and make the most of it! :p

BludgeonySteve 09-20-2005 10:20 PM

This is pure crap. He's not a hero, and when he tries to show the priests the guitar, they reject what he had poured his heart and soul into and he goes into a state of depression. Whoever wrote that hasen't even heard 2112!

Flopfoot 09-21-2005 02:45 AM

I can't seem to get over The Trees, I love the fingerpicking at the start and the instrumentals and everything. It sounds terrific.
And yea, I actually like lyrics which are straightforward enough for people to understand without making it kids music, like 2112 and the trees. (Or anything by Ayreon for that matter, another great prog rock 'band').

Rush is an excellent band. They are in my top 10.

superdigg 09-21-2005 04:45 AM

I'm only recently getting into them, but i love almost all of what i've heard. would anyone like to recommend some of their best starter albums? my favourite songs are 2112 (of course :upset:) and red barchetta. umm yeah, how about some recommendations? :thumb:

Moving Pictures is the standard, good if you're just getting into them. 2112 is awesome. Hemispheres is great too, but you might want to get into them a bit more before trying that one out.

I find A Farewell to Kings to be a really good album, as well as the ones mentioned already. Permanent Waves as well.

Also listen to La Villa La Strangiato (sp.) I might venture to say its better than YYZ.

Hemispheres was actually the first album I heard by them. I had heard various songs, but when I got Hemispheres, I really liked it.
Also listen to La Villa La Strangiato (sp.) I might venture to say its better than YYZ.
I agree. It's one of my favorite instrumentals.

thunderzstruck 09-22-2005 06:20 AM

I loooove Hemispehres

Soooo underrated

I agree, it's awesome. I just think that for alot of people, it's a bit of a "for fans" album.

Whoa now! Let's not get out of hand here.

Distant Echoes 09-22-2005 02:36 PM

YYZ > all

I never see Hemispheres in any stores...Usually the CD stores i go to have a lot of very random Rush CDs...coincidentaly the ones i own. Im so close to having the discography! I may nevr actually find any live albums anywere though. There toughies.

Thunder Fingers 09-22-2005 02:39 PM

Meh.. La villa Strangiato IS more musical than YYZ... ill have to admit that...
I agree, it's awesome. I just think that for alot of people, it's a bit of a "for fans" album.
Yeah, it's definatly not one to convert a Rush fan. It was the second full album I heard by them and I was definatly put off the first time I heard it

Distant Echoes 09-22-2005 03:34 PM

Rush does have some awsome instrumentals. I hope their new album has at least 1...when was the last album they even put an instrumental on? Anybody know?

Sorry for the mistake. Remember I'm using an out of tune piano.

Yeah. Although if you don't like Rush right away, I don't think you ever will.

I liked everything about them right from the first measure of the first song I ever heard.

Rush and I were meant to be :)

I disagree completely. It takes time for some people to enjoy Geddy Lee's voice.

Distant Echoes 09-23-2005 01:19 PM
I disagree completely. It takes time for some people to enjoy Geddy Lee's voice.
Totally true.

I was obliged to being exposed to the DVD first so when i seen who was singing, I could visualize it for my first CD. I didnt like the DVD until i actually got a CD though, then i was all about rush.

BludgeonySteve 09-23-2005 02:29 PM

If I minded Geddy's voice, I would have never started listening to them.

That sucks that you wouldn't give a band more than one listen just because you don't like the singer's voice.
