Well I think they all were great instumentalists but I love Paul the best simply because I'm a bassist myself. I also love all of the lyrics of Joe and Mick. Oh, they just rock at everything.

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 06:38 PM

Paul fucking rules.

:: plays Brand New Cadillac bass line ::

WorryRocker921 03-03-2005 06:53 PM

I play that song all the time I think it botheres the guys in my band.

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 06:59 PM

haha. but its soooo cool and fun.

CombatRock 03-03-2005 07:30 PM

im not much into that song...rudi cant fail has a sweet bass line in it

guns_of_brixton 03-03-2005 08:10 PM

Brand New Cadillac guitar part> Brand New Cadillac bassline, but both are great. Has anyone heard the original, which I believe is by Vince Taylor.

CombatRock 03-03-2005 08:41 PM

nope..infact i have never heard of vince taylor

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 09:23 PM

according to windows media player, it was indeed composed by vince taylor

CombatRock 03-03-2005 09:32 PM

cool, wonder what the orginal version sounds like?

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 09:34 PM

i dont't know, i looked up the clash on allmusic, and under the "performed music by" section there was his name, so i clicked on it. however, i didnt find a song named anything close to "Brand new Cadillac" and it didnt have any sound files for him anyway

CombatRock 03-03-2005 09:38 PM

ooh..they sure did allot of covers

brand new cadillac
pressure drop
armagideon time
pressure drop

what else?

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 09:44 PM

hmmm...

i fought the law (duh)
police and theives
police on my back

thats all i can think of to add on to your list. i think black market clash some covers on it too

CombatRock 03-03-2005 09:45 PM

i didnt know police on my back was a cover...who did they cover it from

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 09:48 PM
"Police on My Back" was written by Eddy Grant when he was leader of the Equals, a British group who fused rock, reggae, and soul rhythms; the band's sole international hit was the admirably eccentric groover "Baby Come Back," but the Clash picked up on one of the group's minor British hits, "Police on My Back," while recording their fourth album
thats what it says on allmusic

CombatRock 03-03-2005 09:53 PM

thanks allmusic

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 09:58 PM

i dont know where i'd be without it

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 10:23 PM

This is really bothering me, go to the link and the last song on there is called "Untitled". Im fairly sure ive heard it before, but i dont know what song it is or where ive heard it. any help?

TheNowhereman42 03-03-2005 10:26 PM

perhaps the song acctually has no title, I know Oasis and Against Me! both have songs without names, Oasis has like 4 I think

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 10:28 PM

i know, it just bothers me becuase i know ive heard that song before, but none of my clash albums have an "Untitled" song on there

CombatRock 03-04-2005 03:30 PM

yea, i have never heard of a clash song called untitled

sketchyjoe 03-04-2005 03:45 PM

It's probably not a music track.

WorryRocker921 03-04-2005 03:59 PM

Brand New Cadilliacs a cover...right?

Forest_Fire 03-04-2005 04:01 PM

i believe. it was compsed by vince taylor (see top of page)

TheNowhereman42 03-04-2005 04:19 PM

may have just been writeen by him but performed origionally by The Calsh

SlappedByTheClash 03-04-2005 04:29 PM

Nah, I'm sure Vince Taylor sang it first.

TheNowhereman42 03-04-2005 04:43 PM

never herad of him

SlappedByTheClash 03-04-2005 04:56 PM

I think he was some old 50's singer or some s'hit.

I really haven't bothered to look into it, so I wouldn't know.

guns_of_brixton 03-04-2005 06:45 PM

Somebody tried to tell me Wrong 'em Boyo was a cover, but I don't believe it is. And Bankrobber is also kind of a cover, but the Clash changed it alot.

SlappedByTheClash 03-04-2005 06:48 PM

Wrong Em' Boyo IS a cover unfortunately, I think Stagga Lee wrote it.

What a great song.

guns_of_brixton 03-04-2005 06:57 PM

Yea, I knew Bill Haley and the Comets did a song called Stagger Lee, which probably sounded nothing like the Clash's, seeing as first wave ska wasn't around in the 50's.

I have no idea why I posted that .

I think it was by a ska band though.

CombatRock 03-04-2005 10:39 PM

i never knew wrong em boyo was a cover, what else is a cover!

Forest_Fire 03-04-2005 10:41 PM

brand new cadillac
armagedeon time
pressure drop
i fought the law
police and theives
police on my back
wrong 'em boyo

i think thats our list so far

CombatRock 03-04-2005 10:46 PM

ooh..why were talking about covers...what are some good covers of clash sogns you have heard...i acctuly think theres a whole cd of clash covers

i know rage against the machine did a cover of clampdown. i would love to hear that

dkm-carrear opprotuines
dkm-white riot
dkm- guns of brixton(horrible cover)
311-white man in hammersmith palais

what else is there

WorryRocker921 03-04-2005 10:49 PM

green day did i fought the law...I guess that's sorta a cover of a cover so I don't know if that counts.

Forest_Fire 03-04-2005 10:52 PM

the dkm ones were the only ones i could think of. im looking into it though

CombatRock 03-04-2005 10:55 PM

i really dont like dkm versions..but no one can close to the clash

Forest_Fire 03-04-2005 11:00 PM

i dont like the guns of brixton cover. i was going to cover career oppritunities with my frineds for a school show, but it didn't work out.

i finally found another cover: Manic Street Preachers covered Train in Vain.

and it sucked a lot

CombatRock 03-04-2005 11:03 PM

i dont like clash's train in vain that much, to me its a boring song

Forest_Fire 03-04-2005 11:05 PM

i usually skip it if im thinking about it, but sometimes it comes up when i have it on shuffle, and im usually digging it by the end of the song

CombatRock 03-04-2005 11:07 PM

train in vain and lovers rock are my least fav. clash songs
