Yes NIN are coming to melbourne /Gives high fives to the melbourne NIN fans /Goes to camp out in front of the ticket office |
To Kage:
Thanks man I'll get into that...I couldn't find the booklet for The Fragile, but I found it yesterday...I'll get to listen to that bastard...:thumb: And yes it was "pinion" the first one, but the second one remains unknown... To make this post more worthy, I would also like to add that...mmm...em.... well talking about Manson anyone has heard his former guitarist solo work (John5 I think)? I've read that it's pretty good. |
I haven't heard John5's solo stuff either but I've also read it's pretty good.. Anyway, I thought Jeordie White did do some bass recordings for the album. Who knows, I could be wrong. Anyway, the day has finally arrived...NIN in Austin...I'm off! :D
|
NIN to tour with Queens Of The Stone Age this fall, for a huge North American tour.

Holy shit, that is going to kick ass. I pray to god that they will play the Toyota Center or something and not Woodlands Pavillion or Verizion. The second a New York City show goes on sale... oh man, I'm there. I do not want to miss them again. |
I refuse to miss them again. They played here LAST NIGHT and I couldn't get scalped tickets. What a sour day that was.
|
Man... thats going to be an awesome tour.
|
NIN are coming to a city 3 hours drive from here in August.
But alas, I am young and need to save what money I have for Tool. |
Wow, "Right" side of TF really is an underrated gem.
|
Wow, "Right" side of TF really is an underrated gem.
I know. Everytime I listen to it, I always think about how little credit I give it. It deserves more. It's a little harder to get into and little weirder than Left, but it's still a great disc. Ripe (With Decay) blows my mind as an eerie instrumental. |

Yeah, I think today was the first time that I really, really loved listening to the "Right" side. |
I love "The Big Comedown", it's such a great song. That disc is really great. There was a time when that was my favorite NIN CD. The right side that is. I mean, they've all been my favorites at one point in time.
|
The Fragile is my all time favorite, and that includes both discs. It's a big investment, but listening to the entire thing at all time is great. It's like two different stories that are connected and intertwined into each other. That's the way I see it.
|
Picking apart the recurring themes and meanings is a lot of fun.
I love that "The Frail" could basically be an intro to both "The Wretched" and "The Fragile". Also, the use of the "La Mer"/"Into The Void" keyboard themes, and combined with "The Great Below", all the references to the sea. There's so much more to understand and dissect. These are just the obvious things. |

For the The Frail/The Fragile, there's a part where the right-hand piano melody in the Fragile is the same melody as the Frail, and then a part where the right hand is the same...blah blah. There's so much more, I can't think of anything. There are certain things that link the Left and Right sides, which really make it interesting...the most obvious being the repeated motif between La Mer and Into The Void. |
/bumped from 4th.

/revives thread.
It seems NIN will not be playing the MTV Movie awards. I'm actually quite glad about this, because playing an MTV event isn't exactly the most prestigious of shows. Besides, I can live without all the teeny-boppers singing THTF. Thoughts? |

EDIT. nevermind...i just read the note on nin.com...it's pretty funny.
|
I've liked NiN for about 2 years now, they were my #1 band at least 3 times since i discovered new material over the years... I've been without listening to them for quite a while now, but i havent gotten into their new CD... I'm really looking forward to giving it one listen and putting the band back up into my favourites where they belong...
It's not a really crying shame that they aren't playing at the MTV movie awards, they would go un-appreciated in those kind of crowds... |
Meh, I guess I won't be watching the awards then. LIke I said before, I usually don't watch the movie awards and this year the only reason i was looking forward to the event was because NIN were going to be performing. Seems like Foo Fighters have replaced them. Oh well.
Anyway, I saw NIN in Austin this past Wednesday...it was an awesome show! It was so d@mn hot though...Reznor even took a second to mention how hot it was that day, heh. "Hurt" was beautiful as was "Something I Can Never Have"..."Head LIke a Hole" and "Burn" were fu(kin'g great...The whole thing was great. Before the show started Jerome Dillon walked right through the middle of the crowd and no one recognized him. I wanted to approach him and ask for an autograph but for some reason, I just didn't move.. :upset: ...Then Aaron North went by and him I did approach but he was in a hurry so he told me he'd give me a picture after the show... :upset: ...Bummer. It was a great night though..I did manage to get an autograph and picture of Dillon after the show though...Now I'm looking forward this fall tour with QOTSA...should be great! :D |
Lucky bastard. They played here on Tuesday, and I went to the venue to try and get scalped tickets, but I only found one person selling and he wanted to get $300 a piece for them. Sorry, pal. He went in and never even sold them. Ha!
Anyway, I think Trent is being an idiot to try and "stand strong" for what he wants. It's like, since when has anyone ever listened to NIN for political messages? Suddenly we all give a shit that you don't like Bush? I don't know, I never agreed with him playing on MTV anyway. |

 That's what I'm afraid of.
|
Well I don't mind them getting popular, it's just I hate when people only know the radio stuff.
|
Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I'm not one of these people who refuses to listen to anything that's popular.
|
I know this.
|
Well, it looks like we're on the same page here.
PS. Chopin is amazing. EDIT: No pun intended, although it worked out nicely. |
Well, it looks like we're on the same page here.
PS. Chopin is amazing. EDIT: No pun intended, although it worked out nicely.
Well now we're on the same page...... Anyway I'm glad that you enjoy him, I had a feeling you would, being a Tool fan and all. |
i can understand that Trent wanted to play on the MTV Movie Awards, but i can't believe trent started to make political statements!! :upset:
Once i read in an interview that THTF is a political one, i couldn't believe it!! since now.... It's horrible. And because i hate MTV and i Hate listening to radio (any kind of radio) because they are playing only shi(t), and i hate everything thats popular and hip... i am SOOOO HAPPY i am not going to see a (f)***in' cheerleder who sings along the song ... ps.: @Kage: when you really want to learn german.... you have to write 'Gott die Maschine' and not 'Gott der Maschine' /me is from austria :thumb: |
That's odd... I am actually learning German, and I thought that was grammatically correct. That sucks, too, because Gott der Maschine looks a lot coolor :p.
I know that Maschine is a feminine noun, so its Nominativ article would be die, but I'm saying "God of the machine," so wouldn't it switch to the Dativ case? |
Just a note to any Aussies (probably NZ's as well) on this board that The Red Paintings have put themselves foward as candidates to support NIN on there down under tour. They also have a fairly decent chance at being selected as an opening act I hear (unreliable source), but I suggest you give them a look anyway. Downloads are available from their site.
Also, tickets for Aus shows go on sale this Monday :D |
Well now we're on the same page......
Anyway I'm glad that you enjoy him, I had a feeling you would, being a Tool fan and all.
I actually dislike a lot of Tool fans. A lot of them are crazy, pretentious, or moronic fanboys. That doesn't apply to the Tool fans on this board, who I happen to like, but a lot of Tool fans you talk to wouldn't give Chopin the time of day. :-/ I enjoy his sonatas a lot though. :) |

i want to make music for myself, but i don't want to play in a band.
i want to do it alone... like trent with a computer. Do you know which software trent uses? are programmes like 'audio logic' good to make music? i don't wanna make 'techno'-sound, i want to make this NIN-sound :D PHM was made only by trent and his computer/software..... |
If you have a Windows/PC computer, then there are several options, but they're fairly expensive, unless you have alternate means of aqcuiring them, if you know what I mean.
I don't know about Audio Logic, but on his latest stuff, Trent uses ProTools, which is an Apple program that is pretty much the pinnacle of professional audio software. If you have a Mac, then you can use Garageband, which is an extremely easy-to-use but good quality program, and I think you'd have best results with that. |
it's always an apple/mac ...
my sister is making a film academy in spain/barcelona and she has an mac-notebook... but i use only windows (2yrs ago even linux - but i deleted it). Everywhere when you plan to do 'artistic'-stuff (films, music, graphics,...) you die without an apple  is there a possibility to run ProTools under windows? to convert it? |

But you definately can get just as good, if not better, ameteur recording on a Windows. It just tends to be more expensive and possibly a little harder to get acquainted with, but in the end the main thing about Macs is that they make everything easy. I'm a Windows person myself, but for recording I always use Garageband, which is a Mac program, so I can't offer too much advice on recording on Windows. |
