OH MY ****ING GOSH THAT CONCERT KICKED SO MUCH ***

we got there late and dind't see hawthorne heights, but got to see unwriteen law.... they were sweet

anyway,

first, they had this hugeass sheet. they played a video of sum 41. steve and cone are playing basketball, and cone wins. steve kicks his *** and chops him up. deryck and dave come over and say whats for dinner. steve says YOU

They started with The Hell Song. I don't remember the exact order, but they played A.N.I.C. (Anna Nicole is a Cunt), Never Wake Up, Motivation, Fat Lip, Makes No Difference, Grab The Devil By The Horns and **** Him Up The ***, Machine Gun, Welcome To Hell, Intro/No Reason, We're All To Blame, The Bitter End, Some Say, My Direction, and a few others that I can't remember... It was so ****ing awesome seeing them live... They were going nuts and all sorts of ****
and deryck was yelling and talkin and **** it was awesome... at one point, hes just like "bye" and they walked off... then they played the intro song (cd) and came out to play no reason
and after ANIC he said Anna nicole can never wake up then they played never wake up... but i think he sang something different than the AKNF song

lol cone was throwin his bass around but they guy there caught em and stuff
like, when he switched basses
i wish i had joined the goon platoon, i woulda been able to seem them after the show and stuff... but im gonna join next week i hope
there were some ****ing hot chicks... but a lot of them smoked

the bad parts being people smoked and drank and ****... people had weed and it smelled so bad... i've never held my breath that long ever.... poeple were throwing bottles but they were all plastic...
i woulda got a shirt and all but the lines were long and i was gonna save my money... and, my friends dad who was there said i could get one online for like half the price
surprisingly, it wasn't that mad to stand forever... i thought it'd be bad but i was fine

lol driving away we had to go slow, so we blasted fat lip and rolled down the windows... everyone was pointing and waving and ****

lol it was just so awesome... its hard to even really say nething

bassist_for_a_band 04-15-2005 10:25 PM

oh yea and they played never wake up, nothing on my back, no brains, slipping away i think...

himynameistweek 04-15-2005 10:50 PM

... have you never been to a show before?

bassist_for_a_band 04-15-2005 11:15 PM

Nope. And I sure as hell plan on going to the next one.

Sum 41 04-16-2005 02:36 PM

Im geting a DVD of sum's concert in tokyo (I think its called "go chuck yourself" lol) its good, they rip on anna nicole smith and derek plays guitar with his teeth.

Sum 41 04-16-2005 02:42 PM

Oh and i just bought the best of sum 41 officail tab book so if you want to learn the officail guitar, bass or drum tabs for the following song let me know and I'll see if i can scan them or some thing.

Fat Lip
Still Waiting
Heart Attack
In Too Deep
Motivation
Pain For Pleasure
The Hell Song
Mr. Amsterdam
No Brains
Over My Head (Better Off Dead)

unfortunatly no Chuck

4timesaday 04-16-2005 03:15 PM

i think dave baksh is one of the best guitarist in pop punk today.... (although are sum41 even pop punk anymore... there kinda pop metal punk..????).... . anyway does anyone agree that its his guitar playing that divides sum41 from anything else in the genre..... and this goes to show that whatever you are initially influnced by can highly effect how you play in the future.... he was and still is a big iron maiden and anthrax fan.... and its easy to see how he tries to get that out in sum41 without over doing it too much....

bassist_for_a_band 04-16-2005 09:30 PM

yea, he said ANIC is anna nicole is a cunt and said its about a stupid blonde, and **** like that
yea that was sweet, deryck playin guitar with his teeth or tongue or w/e

yea my friend got that tab book... its got AKNF and DTLI... its pretty **** sweet

lol hell yea dave's one of the best... u shoulda seen him live

but i think they're kinda rock/punk... they liked people like maiden and priest (as said in fat lip lol), elvis costello, the beatles...

hopeulikemygenocide 04-17-2005 03:50 AM

i was pretty phsyced (sp?) after my first sum 41 show too. you're lucky you got to see them play the bitter end. they had pretty much the same set list at the show i went to but with some minor differences. but yeah sum 41 puts on a great show.

hopeulikemygenocide 04-17-2005 03:52 AM

oh yeah and i didnt get to see hawthorne heights or unwritten law either. i live in hawaii so the opener was a local ska band named upstanding youth. they were ok.

4timesaday 04-18-2005 01:02 PM

yea and when they started the concert stevo was standing on the riser with a bloddy apron and a chainsaw and stuff... then when he was singing pain for pleasure he had cone come by then he was pretending to **** him lol

but they didn't do the dance for makes no difference...
oh yea, and they said makes no difference was for "the old school sum 41 fans"

it was all just really awesome....

and too bad the goon platoon membership is only for a year... 20 bucks aint much though

4timesaday 04-18-2005 04:31 PM

its kinda strange readin that stuff ..especially at the end "good luck sum41, your gona need it"

also all this info is 4 years old... but all the same thanks for diggin up something

Old school Sum41 > New school.

Thats fans, music, everything.

bassist_for_a_band 04-18-2005 07:13 PM

yea... AKNF was the best cd ever, and probably will be... chuck and DTLI were good, but too rock-ish... i always thought of sum 41 as punk rockers... HHOP was pretty awesome too... i just wish they'd go back to the young immature punkish kinda thing...

mr black 04-18-2005 11:58 PM

hey people, i had to search for this forum coz ive never come in the pop/punk one. but my mate put me onto the bitter end, 88, angels with dirty faces... at first i was sceptical because id heard all their other 'IMO' crap like in to deep. but now my eyes have been opened, i cant help but feel that they were always this hard and only made their first album because they knew itd make them million's. peace people im back to the rock/metal forums

thisistj 04-19-2005 12:00 AM

wtf are you smoking.

everyone thinks their first two cd's were the best. well not everyone, but almost everyone i've ever heard. they were never really rock or anything until like 2000 or 2001 (dtli)
there is no way they liked and played rock, yet had two punk albums, both of which kicked ***. fat lip made them who they are. they were young and immature and had fun and ****. now theyre older and now they play rock and stuff

I think it's called "Make Some Noize" and I want to get it too. Nice name too dude. Congratulations on n00b-hood. Have fun.

I think it's all amazing like none other.

TheBassicBassist 04-19-2005 08:55 PM

I'm going to the show in two days. I invited my cousin Michael and he doesn't like them because he is a hardcore metal head so I owe him a dollar. It's gonna be so great.

TheBassicBassist 04-22-2005 10:37 AM

Okay. I saw them last night. I don't have time to post anything right now, so go to http://www.xanga.com/TheBassicBassist that's my blog and you can read what I put on it and stuff. I was in 10 mosh pits bitch

highwaychild377 04-22-2005 10:43 PM

sum 41 is sweet. chuck is sweet. i think dave could replace one of the guys in iron maiden if he wanted to. woot

I love all Sum 41's music but it seems like their choice in what kind of music they play evolved with my taste in music, which is why they are still my favorite band to this day. IMO, dtli and chuck were their best. And in 2000 and 2001 they were still "punkish", considering HHOP was 2000 and AKNF was 2001. DTLI came out in 2002.

Right on. I think Dave is definitely one of the best guitarists out of all the modern bands.

oh yea, ok.... but i always thought HHOP was 99, but i think thats like when they started or w/e

i mean 2003, when DTLI came out....

obviously we can tell why they weren't heard from much.... AKNF in 2001 and DTLI in 2003, but not much in between

metal_milita 04-24-2005 09:02 PM

Woah this thread has lot more posters now.

I remember in its wee days it was just bassicbassist and......... that was it haha. But man, Im same as hopeulikemygenocide, Sum41 is growing with my musical tastes also. It prolly fits because back in Fatlip days, only 9-16 year olds liked it, so now when they play metal and rock, the 9-16 year olds are like 13-19~ year olds and like metal because its better (IMO)

Whatever happend to StoneHenge1, we miss you pal, you were a great guy and an inspiration to all who loved Sum 41. *moment of silence for lost loved ones*.

did anyone read my review on the concert?

yeah that's true. even when i went to there concert a few weeks back, i saw some fans there who were in there thirties!

bassist_for_a_band 04-27-2005 04:25 PM

yea when i went to the concert there were people of all ages

and i know a lot were older cuz they all drank and smoked

but there were some hot chicks my age....

AlkoholikMouse 04-28-2005 02:21 PM

The best thing about Sum 41 is that they can do anything they want, and get away with it, mostly because it's cool. They can do immature pop-punk, they can do metal, they can play anything. They're excellent musicians too. On thier first CD, the opening track 'Grab The Devil By The Horns...' the sheer musical talent there is amazing. Especially as they were so young when they wrote it.

Half Hour Of Power is their best CD in my opinion, although I havent really heard much of Chuck.

yea grab the devil by the horns is awesome.... i was surprised when they played it at the show a few weeks back
they played like all the good stuff, i was surprised they had any of it in 'em... machine gun, grab the devil by the horns, makes no difference, nothing on my back, fat lip, motivation, hell song, anic, no reason, were all to blame, no brains
and a lot more

its almost amazing how they can remember it all good, and still play it so great
i love Sum 41....

it'd be awesome to join the goon platoon and see them after a show... i definitely want to ask why they went from punk and stuff to rock and metal... and what they did between AKNF and DTLI

TheBassicBassist 04-28-2005 08:39 PM

they watched alot of horror movies while they were making DTLI and they were on tour when they wrote it, so they were in a different mood and they stuck on rock after that.

I went to a concert here a week ago, it was amazing.

hopeulikemygenocide 04-30-2005 07:44 PM

Since a lot of the people who post in here have gone to Sum 41 shows lately, did Sum play the extended interlude during No Brains? Because at Hard Rock Live and at the concert I went to in Hawaii (the end of their tour in Japan), they extened the interlude on both No Brains and Nothing on My Back. They were really awesome.

TheBassicBassist 05-01-2005 12:46 PM

I don't think that they extended any of their songs, but I was moshing the whole time, so I wasn't really paying that close of attention to the structure of the songs, sorry

hopeulikemygenocide 05-02-2005 12:03 AM

Haha well I was moshing at first but these two really obese people were suffocating me so I found a calmer spot. The view was great and it was semi-calm so I could soak in the songs.

TheBassicBassist 05-03-2005 10:35 AM

yeah, what I don't get is that they did The Bitter End twice, and didn't do Welcom To Hell at all. it was really annoying, but I can forgive them, because they did 88.

chops 05-03-2005 12:56 PM

i was kind of upset that they didn't play the bitter end when i saw them, but they did play 88!

bassist_for_a_band 05-03-2005 02:15 PM

Yea I think they extended some parts sometimes.... They'd keep playing a part and Deryck would say something
Or the beginning of motivation steveo was playing the hihats and snare and kept playin it while deryck said sumthin else then they went into the song, or sumthin like that
