Unusual waltz intro.
Soon changes to a not too hard bit of 4/4 rock. This sounds like their normal sound, going by the songs I've heard before, just a bit softer. A siren guitar line that just keeps going for ages.

This verse, I guess it could be called, goes on for quite a while with slightly strange muse-like chord progressions and that sireny sounding lead guitar. I don't mind it, but probably couldnt listen to it too often. It's very dry sounding... or feeling, it's like dust is blowing by in the middle of nowhere on a hot day. The singer has a very drowsy voice, he blends in to the music.

A more waltz like instrumental passage makes for a change to the music. Soon goes back to the long verse, I think it's even longer this time. There's a bit where it slows down for a bit, I had hopes that it would play something different, but again it's gone back to the verse riff, and ends soon after

For 6:37, it felt about that. I would have liked a bit more variation to get away from that one long verse over and over. That said, it wasn't a bad sound, just overused I feel.

Ok we're starting out with a violin I believe... with some guy talking. This guy is pretty eerie as well. I'm liking the violin playing with the subtle guitar joinin in after 30 seconds or so. And here comes the conjoining of all instruments and a dreamy choir in the background with the guy's talking getting even more irate than before... borderline screaming.

Ok... if you could mix the dude from They Might Be Giants, Neil Young, & Thom Yorke... I think it would sound like this guy. Or maybe i'm just really tired and imaginative. Anyway, I like the tense guitar.... it's the kind of 1,2,3, 1,2,3 1,2,3 that you hear in horror flicks. And now we get the chorus with a jam part, and an IMMEDIATE return to the horror-guitar, I like it. (Don't get me confused this isn't goth rock or anything, just a tense guitar verse)

To the finale, we get a few violin notes that weren't on the song before to add some complexity... and an ending composition-jam. Now we return back to the subtle tense guitar to allow the song to leave you with knots in your stomach!

This is a very solid song. This might not be a favorite, but this song has me searching for some more music by this band! 7.3/10

Sax and piano starts things. The singer starts, and it does sound like something from an era long passed. The song somehow sounds ahead of it's time, not that I'd know, but something about it is unusual... hey there's a flute.

I didn't like the piano/sax section at first, but it's grown on me quickly. Theres another verse, then chorus, much like before. It builds up to bit of a climax with the piano and organ.

Flute solo! Rather interesting to hear, it reminds me that I have heard very few flute solo's. Ooh, there's 2 of them at times, side by side. Very cool. It goes on for a while.

After the solo, the singer sounds more soulful, or more desperate? But it turns into an growing instrumental climax, with the line "Freedom Rider" repeated every now and then. The flute comes back going wild, but awsome. Then as it can go no further, the mood drops right off and it ends well.


If I was myself, as I am now, but in the 60's, this is the type of music I'd be listening to. I really liked it. 9.5/10

I'll do this one hopefully. That flute solo sounds interesting.

Seeing as I couldn't easily find the Sepultura song I decided to try XTC - Greenman because who could resist 70s pagan pop-rock? :p

I actually like the start, sounds a bit like a frog but it's effective and interesting, quite lively and happy sounding.

Then the main melody starts and it's good, quite Middle Eastern it seems at the beginning but very flowing and sweeping. Seems quite grand. The lyrics and vocals. Now. I'm not too sure about them, the singer is good, effective but I prefer a deeper voice. It's growing on me though, very melodic and sprightly? That's the only way I can think to describe it. You can imagine him dancing round a field in a robe with a sickle. I watch too much Asterix.

It's very sing-along-able and catchy as you would expect what with it being a pop-song, very unusual though. You wouldn't get something like that now. The use of other intstruments is good, I like the flute part, I think it's a flute anyway, could be a piccolo. You can hear very different influences all the way through.

Very grandiose song especially for being a pop song, at 6:17 it's quite long and incorporates loads of different sections and parts. Quite repetitive as you'd expect but not [i]too[/i] much although it is quite annoying. In short, it's a catchy, entertaining song with a bit more substance than usual. I wouldn't be able to listen to it over and over but it is enjoyable and certainly very interesting. Nice little classical piece at the ending as well. The cheesiness cannot be denied though. ;)

7/10 Wouldn't really look XTC up again except for a distraction or sorts.

New name to me. Not too sure what darkwave is either.

Hoo, there's a big choir right from the start. A dark majestic electric piano plays with some horns backing and some big drum hits.

Hey cool, it goes into a mid-tempo dance beat with Indian/Bollywood type vocals, definitely in another language. The choir voices fade in and out in creepy fashion. I hear some African (maybe) voices, like Deep Forest. This is kind of cool.

At 3:30 it goes all calm, some ethnic instruments play some over a droning synth and sitar. We have an ambient 2 minutes break.

A fast run of strings, which sounds very awsome, signals the return of the drum beat, and the same piano as the start. The drum beat is more tribal, at least for a short time. Some of the older beats come back, different vocals though.

It's pretty well done, keeping the interesting factor up with the right amount of variation, but not being too different. There's also a flute solo. Choir comes back, and builds up and up, getting near the end now. The very last choir note is repeated a bunch of times and then it fades out on a low synth drone note.


I thought that was pretty cool, maybe a bit try-hardish with all the ethnic sounds and choirs, but it was really well done. It stayed interesting over the 9 minutes, which was good. I might get more if it's like this. This is Hollenthon in dance music form.

I guess I downloaded a live version of the song, possibly the only version? I first heard this song in The Graduate. With most S&G this song is about the vocals and lyrics. They had an amazing harmony. The song is about mans lack of communication. This is one of those rare songs where the lyrics are deep and meaningful, yet still sound great when sung. The song is very 60's sounding, just some simple guitar riff over some acoustic guitar with drums eventually. Some people don't like this song because of the electric guitar and drums but I don't have a problem with them. I would like to select a little blurb of lyrics that I like to prove the greatness of the lyrics, but all of the lyrics are great.

I was expecting something pretty laid back, like Jack Johnson, and it is. The main difference would be the music style, it's hip hop beats with some sparse funk guitar. The vocals are sung, not rapped.

I think I heard a tiny burst of trumpet. A bit of mute guitar comes in and features in the chorus, which has harmony in the vocals. Sounds like positive lyrics, but just to be careful of what the future holds... something like that.

Some acoustic guitar helps out with fills, but not doubling the mute guitar. Hmm, verse and chorus again. What else can I say?

The bouncy sounds of Jews Harp in the middle gives it a bit of flavour while the acoustic has bit of a solo. Then it goes back to the verse music and repeats a line about the next awakening is you.. Ends soon after.


Not bad, generally decent music, though it seems a bit sparse at times. I found nothing in it to be super excited about. A good song for relaxing to, maybe not listening to like we do in FL here, but definitely as a background happy mood setter song. I could listen to more of this, no problem. 7/10

Custard - Nervous Breakdance

I have absolutely no idea what to expect from this song sounds very interesting!

The song starts with a funky quite upbeat bass riff which is then joined by vocals, i find this bit to be a bit weak to be honest and probably my least favourite part of the song.

The drums and a bit of guitar then jump in with the bass coming to the forefront and the vocals coming more alive.
The song then begins to pick up tempo. What i'm really liking about this song is the layers that are being built up with each verse.
About 3 quarters of the way through the singer is joined by some backing singers, this is by far my favourite part of the song.
It then reverts back to a quiet and similar style to the introduction of the song before kicking back into the chorus style again.


I really really enjoyed this song, if theres anything else worth checking out by them let me know blue!

Weird is definitely an apt genre name for this song. It begins with what sounds like someone searching for a radio station before the music starts properly. When I say music, it's a children's mobile with intermittent blasts of TV static and feedback in the background. The vocals start speaking over the 'music' and the sound of breaking glass and crowd chatter. They're quiet but strained. There's the sound of violins that come in the background. The lyrics are pretty nonsensical butt the singer manages to make them sound almost heartfelt. Then song sort of just grinds to a halt. This is a very weird song. If you're a fan of obscure avant-garde stuff you'll probably like it. 6/10

Starts out with a really heavy bass line. Ani starts singing and the drums come in. I like her voice alot. The chorus sounds great. The guitar is really funky. I like it. She reminds me of Joss Stone. She's doing a good job of not making the sound sound exactly the same as Bob's version. The songs going along really well. She has some good intensity during the verse and then she picks it up and sounds more uplifting during the chorus. For such a long song it's really keeping my interest very well. The instruments drop out and she sings by herself. And now the song is over. That was really good. I like how she made it her own song yet still did justice to Bob's version. I think I might look into her more.

I've seen this band name mentioned enough to want to hear them.

Nicely simple intro, a slow, basic bluesy riff with some watery organ. It's also got some hard rock power in the guitar, which is nicer to me than just all out blues.

The singer has a good clear voice, somewhat like deeper Chris Cornell. The verse music is quieter, but the chorus is more powerful but a pretty simple riff and the singer fits in perfectly. They do above a couple of times, with some cool blues guitar lead in the later stages of it.

Theres a little bridge thing in the middle, just a new riff, and some lead guitar as well. It does as any bridge does and ends soon after. The verse and chorus come back as before, with even more lead guitar, which reminds me a bit of Pearl Jam's lead guitar. And this is how it goes on until the end.


Good head nodding music this, I'm enjoying it a fair bit. Not my preferred music by any means, but when something's good, you can't just ignore it. All is on for about 6 minutes, it doesn't change much but it isn't boring. The singer made it really work for me, his voice is just right.

Decoder Ring - Collapse Coming On

Starts with a sound that souds like a chopper carried by Santa's reindeers. It's quite dark, ambient...until a lullabyish melodies surfaces gradually, changing the mood. The song becomes a bit more bold after the first few bars after the drums came in. It's got a poppy base, but there are no vocals. There is a brief tranquil sequence, and then it goes into a slightly heavier version of the first parts...with distorted guitars. The song still has a very upbeat vibe until the end.

Pretty decent track...it did remind me a bit off something on Mogwai's "Happy Songs For Happy People" album...but it was more in the mood of the song...not the way it actually sounded. 7/10

Very unusual, at least compared to what I'm used to listening to, definatly not a horrible song but not the type of song I would listen to, a little upbeat for me, also had a very throwback type feel to it, especially the guitar, definatly a song to listen for if your into lighter listening and happy upbeat music, I'll give it a 5.5 meaning it wasn't what I listen for but I easily made it through the whole song.
