When you were 10 years old amirite?
Takk.. > ()

I seem to be quite alone in this opinion.
I agree with you. It's their most complete and coherent work for me. ( ) goes a bit too much into repetition (especially in tracks 5, 6 and 7) for me, and Agaetis Byrjun is somewhat incoherent. All three albums are excellent though and Takk is a 5/5 for me.
Wait was that MTV2 or regular MTV?

If it was the latter, we should begin to feel scared. :/

I used to like MTV.
I think I was watching Laguna Beach at a friend's house. His girfriend made us. That was the day he became her bitch.

Eliminator 12-24-2006 05:23 PM

laguna beach rules, though
Pelican's website:

"NEW ALBUM IN 2007! Five days from now we will ensconce ourselves in Chicago's Electrical Audio Studios for 11 days of intense concentration and furious rocking. The album will be engineered by none other than Andrew Schneider, the villain behind this years' prime offender Hell Songs by the Daughters, last years' jaw dropper Perfect Pitch Black by Cave In, and the previous years' Summer bar fight soundtrack Subject to Change Without Notice by fellow Midwesterners Keelhaul. In other words, Andrew's credentials are apparently unsullied (yet) and the album is predicted to have a throttling impact worthy of the ragers we've constructed for it.

People who made it out to see us on our West Coast/Canadian jaunt with Daughters had the opportunity to preview four of the new tunes, "City of Echoes", "Bliss in Concrete", "Dead Between the Walls", and "Spaceship Broken - Parts Needed". The good news is that these songs only began to scratch the surface - there's a whole six more songs in the reserves that hadn't yet made it to the live performance stage. On a whole the songs are more concise and more aggressive than our prior work. Relentless repetition has taken a backseat to intensity and a desire to pack as many riffs as possible into each tune.

The album is currently slated for a May release on Hydrahead Records. People can, of course, expect us to tour before and after that time. "
Ooooooooo

New Pelican = excitement
I've definitely gone off of Sigur Ros since I first got into them. They're alright.

Although their song on the trailer of the movie Children of Men is really awesome.
Is that movie out yet? I saw the previews in a theatre a while back but never saw it hit the screens.

bwnstl 12-24-2006 06:09 PM

It comes out tomorrow, assuming you're in the U.S. And it's fantastic, btw.

Really? Christmas Day?

Dude, that's an awesome present. I'm going tomorrow.

Kage 12-24-2006 06:34 PM

I'm really excited for the movie, it really looks excellent with no small aid from the Sigur Ros song.

superpeer 12-24-2006 06:35 PM

So I just heard a Mogwai track on Last.Fm radio, sounds kewl.

Kage 12-24-2006 06:38 PM

Your first time hearing them?

What song was't?

bwnstl 12-24-2006 07:17 PM
I'm really excited for the movie, it really looks excellent with no small aid from the Sigur Ros song.
I didn't even know Sigur Ros had a song in it and it was completely amazing on its own merits.

About Takk: They just lost the whole super depressing and surreal minimalistic sound. Takk is just really experimental and changing a ton. I can't stand listening to even half of it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-25-2006 12:19 AM

()? Minimalistic?

Pear - What, this I hadn't foreseen.

Spiritofmosa 12-25-2006 03:13 AM

so you are saying super depressing is good and experimental is bad.
haha

I can hook you up with an album if you wish young man.

hahaha

takk is barely a change at all from ( )

it's a little more upbeat and the production's different

it's not experimental at all

superpeer 12-25-2006 08:22 AM
Your first time hearing them?

What song was't?
Yep, I think so.

Summer (Priority version)

Jake: Why's that? I like everything mang, as long as it isn't full on prog.

ATM 12-25-2006 08:51 AM

I like Takk and () about the same.

AA-12 12-25-2006 09:06 AM
so you are saying super depressing is good and experimental is bad.
haha
In my taste, very much so.

publicastration 12-25-2006 01:29 PM

Lets see, I like Isis, Explosions In The Sky, Jesu, and I don't know if Dredg counts as post rock.

superpeer 12-25-2006 01:33 PM

Depressing is always good.

OH

Does Slint count as post-rock?

Kage 12-25-2006 02:02 PM
Lets see, I like Isis, Explosions In The Sky, Jesu, and I don't know if Dredg counts as post rock.
Eh, there are elements in Dredg but then again there are also elements of jazz but they're hardly a jazz band.

Zebra 12-25-2006 02:54 PM
Depressing is always good.

OH

Does Slint count as post-rock?
I would consider Slint post-rock. Not all of their songs are post-rock influenced but they definitely have some songs that have epic climaxes (Washer, Don, Aman.)

ATM 12-25-2006 04:59 PM

Slint own. Spiderland is great for a walk in the woods.

bucket 12-25-2006 05:05 PM

My sister bought me Jaga Jazzist's What We Must for Xmas. It feels good to finally have it, as it's in my top 5 favorite albums.

It came with 4 demos: All I know is tonight, Mikado, Swedenborgske Rom, and Stardust Hotel. Nothing extraordinary, but a nice addition nonetheless.

ATM 12-25-2006 05:07 PM

Nice, great great album.

Kage 12-25-2006 05:08 PM

It's a great album but I rarely find myself in the mood for it.

ATM 12-25-2006 05:09 PM

The first track blows me away. I did a short movie with that as the music.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-25-2006 05:09 PM

Jaga Jazzist has been on my must-hear list for several months. What should I start out with?

Kage 12-25-2006 05:10 PM

The album What We Must, undoubtedly. The first track will hook you if you are to be hooked at all.
