Are there any rappers, that don't rap, about drugs, cars, women etc. Any recommendations would be awesome.

There's plenty who don't rap about such things.

My suggestion would be for you to check out Hilltop Hoods.

Suggested listening includes: Left Foot, Right Foot, Illusionary Lines, What The Season Change?, Dumb Enough and 1979.

Immortal Technique an angry underground New York based artist, he generally raps about the state of US politics, the music industy and ignorant African Americans. He is very good and got me into the genre with the cool lyrics he spits, i recommend Harlem Streets, Industrial Revolution and the hugely popular and quite confronting Dance with the Devil.

Also try Canibus for killer intelligent rhymes (DL Poet Laurete II it slays!), Talib Kweli for good lyrics with more upbeat samples and Jedi Mind Tricks for mad beats and brutal political lyrics.

Enjoy :thumb:

Hey deadinholywood, I picked up True Live's EP the other week. It's pretty good stuff. Thanks for getting me into them. I'm now on their street team. :thumb:

No, he was talking about Gag Starr. The famous porn rap duo. You know, Screwu and DJ Creamer. They're like Voltron, members in a bigger hole. I mean whole.

ATM 04-06-2006 12:36 PM

hahaha

that's gangsta

Kayetan 04-06-2006 02:11 PM

Does anyone like GZA?

ATM 04-06-2006 04:28 PM

Kayetan 04-06-2006 04:36 PM

yeah that bigger hole is more like the toilet bowl, cuz they full of shyt not clips, but yo, all they be doin is liquid swording in the bathroom with each otha and they can't even wRAP it up quick enough, by the time they're done they shake the remainder of what they got left and end up POSITIVE if you catch my drizzle no wonder it's a clASSic/a.s.s. 'clique' wooo! tangyyyy KILLER bees! but i can't wait til they meet MF DOOM then maybe he'll find a better METHOD and kill the MAN and it could be JUDGEMENT DAY on DANGEROUS GROUND, now that would be some straight SPAZZOLA and i'd be willing to put out some payola for that

lmfao hahahahaha :p

Jude 04-06-2006 08:06 PM

I'm interested in checking out some non-mainstream rap. Mainly because a friend got me into a group called The Coup and I'm trying to get some albums by them, or something similar. IM me at Mistergroovy1023 and I'm up for trading albums for anything you recommend (of course I have no rap albums at this time)

antiant 04-06-2006 10:08 PM

Jude go here: http://www.thegiantpeach.com/ all the hip hop cd's you need plus they have the coup

Cool Man, ive been meaning to ask you if you found it anywhere. I know you asked me to send it to you a while back but it wouldn't work for me. How good does the jazzy piano section at the end of evolution sound?
All you have to do now is see them live! (if you haven't already)
Whoa, Street team? I may have to sign myself up....

This cracked me up (maybe because of my bad humour but also because of his accent). Turn off the music player cause the actual music sucks and scroll down till you see the video and play it.

On another note I've just downloaded What's Golden? by Jurassic 5. Can you guys tell me an album by them I should buy because this tune is pretty darn good.

It took me a while to get my hands on it, but I did eventually. Evolution is such an awesome track, so I;m currently waiting for them to come to Brisbane so I can actually see them live. The music behind the vocals is awesome. Seriously. Those guys could put out some decent instrumental tracks together if they wanted to.
Anyone a fan of Cage?
the shyt i heard sucked, but then again i only skimmed it really quick and my ears weren't open, he's one of those artists i'll have to put on the backburner (like i do many when the music doesn't connect right away) when i'm in the mood and i'm fully focused to actually "listen" but so far blah...what do you like about Cage?

kyle6677 04-07-2006 10:14 PM

of the cage songs i've heard, nothing too special. hes average i guess. he recently released a new cd where his style is supposed to be different than his old stuff, mroe traditional i guess, and its gotten good reviews but i havent checked it out

He had some nice flow in a few songs, but i found that after a while i got bored.
Just wondering.

Would someone explain what both conscious and backpack rap are?

antiant 04-09-2006 06:54 PM
Would someone explain what both conscious and backpack rap are?
yeah sure, conscious rap is rap that involves thinking and or educating the masses or elevating people, think of it as a "teacher" of sorts, it's a teacher and student relationship in a way and vice versa, it's about knowledge being powerful (people can argue/debate about this, but this is a general definition), backpack rap is basically the same thing...need any more info or questions feel free to ask

The Great Decay 04-09-2006 07:00 PM

Could you recommend some artists that would be classified as either of the two?

antiant 04-09-2006 07:19 PM

yeah sure:
1. KRS-one
2. Talib Kweli
3. Mos Def
4. Common aka Common Sense (back in his earlier days)
5. Public Enemy

The Great Decay 04-09-2006 08:25 PM

Thanks.

LF96 04-10-2006 06:10 AM

Kanye West has been named backpack rap too, although I think that only goes up for some of his songs.

POINTLESS5448 04-10-2006 10:03 AM
