Gehe, I think you want to know, that Pink Floyd tops my list :P My favorite The Who stuff is, the 3DVD Tommy/Quadrophenia set, all you need more is, the magic bus live :P |

The Wall>Quadrophenia *Runs away*
The Wall? How about Darkside, WYWH, Animals, or even Meddle. The Wall is their most commercially successful output, but it's not quite at the level of the first two I mentioned. 5:15 off Quad is a phenominal song; one I totally used to underrate. |

5:15 off Quad is a phenominal song; one I totally used to underrate.
I said the Wall because its a Rock opera, same as Quad. The others are concept albums. Plus, I'd still say The Wall is my favorite Floyd album. Only WYWH and Animals come close to the same level of emotional output that album can create. 5'15 is and awsome song, though. Same with The Real Me. |
From Quad, I love The Punk And The Godfather, Helpless Dancer and Love Reign O'er Me, the most :D

This is great conversation. I'm surprised at the taste in music of some Who fans. And while I do respect Pink Floyd and find some of their music tolerable, I wouldn't say they could > The Who in any way, shape, or form. No power chords, no sloppy live performances, no proto punk songwriting, no smashing up of instruments, no rich mod history. WTF?
The reason I like The Who is because they are a "classic" rock band that aren't stereotypical classic rock. Same as Floyd, so I guess they have that in common. But The Who....um....well, this is the Who thread, so I really don't have to say anymore. I really don't have words for it, anyway. This band leaves me speechless. I have an aunt I don't see anymore who lived with us for awhile when I was a kid. She was into all kinds of music. She could listen to the hardest of punk or metal or alternative. This wasn't her usual fare, but she kept an open mind. But the times she would hear Live At Leads blaring from my room she would always scream "for the love of god that is such terrible noise". That's why I love The Who, basically. Not because of what she thought, but because it's true. It was and is terrible noise. God bless 'em THE WHO > ALL And don't anyone forget it. :smash: |
God bless 'em indeed.
I listened to Quadrophenia as soon as I got home from school. I love The Real Me, 5'15'', Sea and Sand, Drowned, and Love Reign Over Me. That and Who's Next are some of my all time favs :) |
I love how the Who don't even have to sound good to kick ass, especially live. Their feeback is awesome.
I used to really dig the Wall, but it got a bit old to me. Quadrophenia has great music constantly, but I really don't care much about the story. The mod thing doesn't do enough to capture me or bring me into a character psychology. The whole time it seems like I'm on the surface and just looking at a story that goes , "then this happened....and then this happened.." Townshend attempted to have a more complex and significant concept in Quadrophenia, as evident by the four contrasting personalities idea, and even in the Real Me. But ultimately that never goes anywhere and we're just left with some great tunes. Tommy, despite the incoherent and somtimes admittedly stupid plot, does more to capture the imagination and feeling of the listener than Quadrophenia does. |
Their feeback is awesome.
The Who's feedback > any other bands greatest song, amirite? Yes. I. Am. :) /does a little dance /goes back to listening to Oasis and eating spaghetti |

Silly bands, indeed.... Just checking in to say at Pete's website they are showing a live performance of Lifehouse on Towser TV. Which of course includes Who songs. Performed with full band and a small orchestra. Some of you should check it out. Right now it's opening with a lush number that includes good bits of Baba 'O Riley. It's interesting. I was bored so I found these yesterday and wasted some time. It's pretty fun, most are easy but a couple are challenging. |
I just bought the Who's Then and Now because it was 12 dollars, and I'm glad that I did it. The first track "I Can't Explain" was killer, I loved the rhythm and the singing, and My Generation is a classic, but the kid's are alright may be one of the biggest Beatle's rip-off's I've heard but it's still a good song It sound's exactly like All I Got To Do at times.
Some tracks that stand out for me are I Can't Explain, Substitute, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again, Squeeze Box, You Better You Bet, Who Are You, and 5:15 (I love the part, "Inside outside LEAVE ME ALONE, Inside outside, NO WHERE IS HOME). And the two new song's are really catchy and I like them. Real Good Looking Boy is my favourite of the two...but I got to know what's with the references and lines from "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" |
I'm guessing this is your first run-in with the Who?
|
I'm guessing this is your first run-in with the Who?
Indeed... |
You need to get: Who's Next, Quadrophenia and Tommy ;)
|
And Live at Leeds.
|
And while you're at it, Who Are You.
|
Definitely go with Live At Leeds next, that's how I got into The Who.
|
And while you're at it, Who Are You.
No way that should come anywhere near the top of the list. Order to get into the Who: Who's Next Live at Leeds Tommy Quadrophenia The Who Sell Out The Who By Numbers The Who Sing My Generation A Quick One Who Are You Face Dances It's Hard |
Hey Lunch, thanks for that link. Clever bump. I think I'll waste some time there myself...
So far as getting into The Who, just about any album could do it, save It's Hard. I actually got into them through The Kids Are Alright soundtrack. That really took hold of me. And the Who's Next tunes on there really come through. My Wife, WGFA, and especially Baba. That one is like thunder on that album. Have you seen the DVD where they isolate John's bass track for Baba and WGFA as a bonus feature? It's incredible. Amazing to hear... Then I got into Face Dances and really loved it. Kind of let me see two sides of The Who with those two albums. Oh, and My Generation Blues From TKAA soundtrack is awesome, too. That's not even on your list! :smash: Anyway, I was gonna post up here tommorow, seen as it has been inactive for several days. I was getting worried. :( But seems things are back to normal now.... |
@JohnXDoe, Baba will always be my favourite The Who song, it's a song that will never bore me :)
|
Yea I realized I forget TKAA soundtrack, I wasn't even thinking about non-studio albums. That would probably be a good album to get in order to get into the Who.
Won't Get Fooled Again FTW, from Who's Next at least. |
I'm seeing the who in a few months i cnt wait
|
@JohnXDoe, Baba will always be my favourite The Who song, it's a song that will never bore me :)
I've had TKAA version stuck in my head for awhile. And I wish they would still do it like that. But even when John was still alive they started doing it with a piano intro sometime ago. And although John would join in just as on record, when it was just his bass alone at the intro, it sounded incredible. In fact I like that song live without piano altogether.
Yea I realized I forget TKAA soundtrack, I wasn't even thinking about non-studio albums.....
Oh yeah. Like that great studio album you included called Live At Leeds. What a misleading title, WTF? :p
I'm seeing the who in a few months i cnt wait
 |
you don't know the Who until you hear See Me Feel Me live.
|

Fine, I hate you. God  In that case I just forgot about TKAA Soundtrack. |
On the topic of the two new songs on Then and Now, I've only heard Real Good Looking Boy which I really like. Whats the other one like?
|
Im thinking about getting the Who Sell Out next, i've heard lots of good about it, and I like the idea of the radio jingles. Is this a wise choice?
