All right, this is a big job.
I want a sound of classic metal-kinda progish but I still want the cymbals to be applicable to other times of music. I don't care about a budget. The set up would be: Hi-Hats Ride Crash 1 Crash 2 Crash 3 Effects 1 Effects 2 Effects 3 Effects Ride 4 I would like it one step up with only Zildjian and another with all Sabian. (So I can choose and pick from these companies. Don't give any Wuhan, paiste or any others; I just want a Zildjian setup or a Sabian.) As in, here are the cymbals you'd want from Zildjian, and here is the kind you would like from Sabian. |
Not long ago I bought a 15 AAX dark crash and I love it. now I'm looking to change my 16'' AA rock cause I don't like it. What would fit really well with the dark crash. maybe the 17'' of the same model? I want something dark, explosive, that will sound more than the 15''.
maybe 17 K dark crash thin |
Do you have a budget? What styles are you going to play with it? Are you a brand whore? Do you have other cymbals you'd like it to blend with? Anything else you think would help us to help?
I'm thinking about getting another splash for my kit. I already have a 10" Stagg Myra splash, and was looking at getting an 8" splash as well. I want a short and high pitched sound and was looking at a Zildjian A splash, but if anyone has any other sugestions hit me with them.
|
The 8" Stagg SH splash is quite nice, although it's got a bit much sustain for my tastes. Gotta love the Sabian AAX 8" splash for really short cutting sounds, I find it a great accent cymbal

I've gone with this based one all your suggestions.
Hi Hats: 13" HHX Groove Hi-Hat Ride: 20" AA Medium Heavy Ride Crash 1: 15" AAX Dark Crash Crash 2: 17" AAX plosion Crash Crash 3: 17" Vault Crash Effects 1: 10" AA Splash Effects 2: 14" HHX Evolution Mini-Chinese Effects 3: 20" HH Dark Chinese Effects Ride: 19" Sig. V-FX Ride This comes out around $1,575. Well, a little work I can get this. |
Sorry about the bumping i was in an impatient mood. Any other suggestions?

A jazz/grooving type ride, thick, good stick def., and not to many overtones.
|
AA Flat hats, AAX Fast hats, AA/AAX/Hand Hammered Fusion Hats
|
Effects 3: 20" HH Dark Chinese
Effects Ride: 19" Sig. V-FX Ride I have a hard time finding these cymbals for sale, anyone know of a place that carries them? |
Whats the different sound characteristics of a flat ride compared to a normal bell ride? I heard a flat ride once and it sounded good, so I am curious.
|
they are much dryer and crisper sounding. The bell is what gives a cymbal its overtones and volume. thats why Dry rides gennerally have small bells, and why flat rides never project as much as the same ride with a bell.

If they're going to get such a big purchase out of you, most stores would be happy to, I'm sure (I got my store to order me in a *splash*... all the way from Canada to the UK :)) Martin |
all of Sabians cymbals come from Canada ;)

K Custom High Definition Ride. |
A massively cutting china that still has some nice dark overtones and can be ridden on easily.
