It is one of their best, and should have gone through :(

David Gilmour and Pink Floyd
I really like David Gilmour's first solo album, it is self titled. The band Monster Magnet did a cover of his song "Theres No Way Out of Here" .. I'll let you be the judge of which version is better. (I prefer Gilmour's version)....
Pink Floyd.......... My favourite album, I would have to say is Animals. In particular the song Dogs, in my opinion, is the best from that album. I like the way it changes.. from a faster paced upbeat start .. to a mellow mid section, and then back to a fast pace, and then back again... The Nile Song is kind of heavy for a Floyd song I think, at least thats my opinion.. but it sounds a little heavier than their usual style. Music had a lot more to it back in the day. Nowadays, especially with pop-punk being as popular as it is with the younger ones, it's no wonder there are few great bands left. Except of course the ones who are still around from years past.. Anyway this isn't so much about Floyd as it is about me bitching about new music so I'll leave you guys with one final thought. Rob Halford is the leather wearing heavy metal god. Do not forget this. |

Glad to see you like Animals, you will get no argument from us, it is a very good album. :thumb: |

I havent been able to listen to his s/t yet. About Face is also a good album, very much different from his work in PF, which is a good thing to here soem different stuff. |

Thanks.
I just wrote a lengthy reponse to the Judas Priest thread it somehow there was an error and I could not post it. That sucked. My friend downloaded..... a Papa Roach live album last night, and I had the misfortune of hearing it..... the "singer" was praising Black Sabbath and dedicated their next song to the band... I'd imagine Tony Iommi was shuddering backstage.. at least the nu-metal performers know about good bands... No offense to some of the kids here but... if you dont know who Black Sabbath, Judas Priest or Deep Purple are you should not be making comments about classic music. So now that I have that out of my system... Look for the video or audio of the song 'Wigga' by M.O.D. Prepare to laugh your *** off  |
P.S..
I am not saying nu metalers LIKE good music, I am merely saying that performers are aware there are good bands out there. |
How about Syd Barrett? A genius songwriter, in my opinion. Pipers At the Gates Of Dawn is a great album, heavily inspired by the Beatles, especially Sgt. Pepper's. In fact, Pink Floyd was in the exact same recording studio recording PATGOD as the Beatles were in the studio recording Sgt. Pepper's.
Some other albums I love include Meddle (yea, Fearless is one of their most under rated songs, and one of my favorites), Wish You Were Here (some beautiful songs on there, and Have a Cigar), and Animals (Dogs, Sheep, and Pigs are amazing songs). Anyone thinking of a reunion tour? I heard rumours of a '06 tour, but I doubt it, although it would be great. I never had a chance to see them play, and would love to be there on their last tour. Roger definitly won't be back, arrogant bastard he is, but it would be something similar to the Pulse tour. Yep, I love my Floyd. PS - For our Barrett fans.
I'm surprised that Eclipse even got into the 100. I love it but it can't stand alone as a great song without the rest of Dark Side.
yeah when i first listened to that album.... it was just... i dont know but it was a great feeling :D and i dont really see it as an album you can skip to a song on. well at least for me. becasue i see that album as one great long song. and ive heard people say that it would be hard to get into floyd when ive only had DSOTM and WYWH a day and ive been listening to them non-stop pretty much theyre both great albums and i cant wait to hear more albums :thumb: |

As for a reunion tour... well, it technically wouldn't be a reunion tour, because they never technically broke up. However, from the sounds of interviews with David and Nick (of course, roger waters getting back with them will never happen, flat out) the chances of them touring again or making another album are slim to none. But, Gilmour still does the occasional concert, so just try to catch one of those! :thumb: |

*crosses fingers for US tour(including mississippi)* |
Haha. I'd love to see Gilmour live, but I don't think he does any major tours anymore. I don't know too much, but I think he just does stuff like those two shows on the DVD every now and again. I really wish he'd decide to make another Pink Floyd album though... seeing them live... *drools*

Apparently the Aussie Pink Floyd is returning to Aus soon! :D

I got to see Aussie Floyd back in I think September. It was a pretty impressive show. |
When was the last time they actually toured in Australia?
|
Last year. Then they hit the big time. :(
|
Aww... sad. Well, you can have bragging rights of seeing them before they got famous. Sort of. I dunno, cuz its a cover band...? How would that work exactly?

\ That's just the thing, they only toured the southern cities before they were famous. So I didn't get the chance. At least now I can though! :thumb: |
Bummer. Well, enjoy the show!
|
Aussie floyd looks cool. They've pollished their show beyond awesomes, i've heard.
|
Yeah, they apparently are almost as good as the real thing. Almost.
*wishes Pink Floyd would tour to his tiny little town* |

Yeah my friend saw them in Toronto and loved it. They havent came bear my town since.:( |
I saw them in Seattle in April, I hope they'll come near my new home.
|
What songs do they usually play?
|
*major bumping*
Keep this thread alive people! Here's something cool for the Floyd fans: http://pftcme.tripod.com/id5.html It looks pretty lame when you first look at it, but it's cool. A radio with all tons of live songs, and a lot of rare stuff. The best part is that it isn't popular, so your requests always get played. |
Dude! Thats awesome! Yeah, this was definitely a big bump. Glad to see the thread back to life though! *checks out link*
So, let's talk about Pink Floyd. I was listening to Comfortably Numb, off The Wall, and then I listened to it live, off Delicate Sound Of Thunder, and I must admit that it sounds better live. However, the studio version of Time sounds much better than the live version. What are your thoughts?
Also, what do you think the most haunting lyrics are in a Pink Floyd song? I think it would have to be Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, or Run Like Hell. What do you think?
i totally agree with "wish you were here"..."we're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after"--soo shaking, i think that "eclipse" off of "dark side of the moon" is incredibly haunting. most of that album i cant listen to at night! also, has anyone every tried that rumor that each track off dark side of the moon is about each big scene in the wizard of oz (eg: the great gig in the sky to the tornado scene) |
Don't buy the whole "synch" crap. Its a load of bull. Thats just my opinion though, some people really like it.
