Benefit of Mr. Kite...what a great song. I love the scary psychedelic circus music...I appreciate that song more and more every time.]

No Kazaa for me right now so I won't dibs any songs.

Kazaa < Dirt

Jude 08-29-2004 01:44 PM
Kazaa < Dirt
Hey, it's worked fine for me. The German version of Kazaa Lite K++ anyway. It didn't cause any problems, though the original Kazaa did.

Bartender 08-29-2004 01:51 PM

Kazaa, even Kazaa Lite, never seems to find 60% or more of what I'm looking for.

Dancin' Man 08-29-2004 01:53 PM

Limewire is better. By far. slsk is what to use for the most rare though.

Dancin' Man 08-29-2004 03:21 PM

So uh, I'm gonna bump this.

Bartender 08-29-2004 03:41 PM

Dibs.

Bartender 08-29-2004 05:28 PM

This isn't quite my first In Flames song, but it's close.
In Flames - Cloud Connected - 3:40

Wow, starts off with some high-pitched, fast paced synth. Didn't see that one coming. Lower synth dun-duns in the background - heavy guitars start imitating this synth for a bit, then start making what they play flow together a bit more. I really like this bit, the guitars sound really good.

Vocals come in around 0:37, in his clean, not-quite-singing voice. He soon works his way up to a good yell though. It's pretty effective actually.

Chorus, I think, around 1:10, and a pretty cool little drum roll around 1:26. Quick burst of synth after the chorus, and back to the verse, but just as quickly another chorus. The chorus has a those odd, slightly distorted vocals, not entirely harsh, but not entirely normal, either.

Short (9 second) solo at 2:36. It starts promisingly, but peters out, especially as it's so short. Song fades out after a couple of quick guitar chugs, on synth.

Well, that was good. Not great though; although I liked the verses, I didn't like the chorus, and there wasn't anything really to it other than that. I was left kinda questioning whether the song had actually just played; something of a non-event. Not bad though.

7.5/10

Would I listen to more of the same band? Yep.

Songs;
Hollenthon - Reprisal (Malus Avibus) (ethnic/tribal/folky death metal)
Iron Maiden - Paschendaele or Paschendale, depending on spelling (heavy metal)
Silverginger 5 - Divine Imperfection (rock'n'roll/pop metal)
Judas Priest - Lost and Found (Ripper-era ballad, great acoustic intro)
Morbid Angel - Invocation of the Continual One (death metal, long)

Dibs

Undibs - sorry. but I can't find Morbid Angel or Hollenthon, and I've heard the others before.

 You've heard Silverginger 5?

/bump

Jude 08-30-2004 03:55 PM

I'd dibs but as I mentioned, I'm rather sick of people suggesting all metal songs.

There is more than one genre in the world, folks.

Kingofdudes 08-30-2004 03:58 PM

Silverginger 5 - Divine Imperfection (rock'n'roll/pop metal)
thats not metal

Iron Maiden and Judas Priest arent the hardcore growling type of metal either.

Riva 08-30-2004 04:49 PM

Then open your mind you self-righteous personage. :p
If you check out Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, I'm sure you'll like them. They're classic metal... back when metal was just faster, heavier hard rock.

And Bartender, I checked Silverginger 5 out the last time you suggested them. All right. Not too shabby.

Bartender 08-30-2004 06:19 PM

^ Cool :)

You do know the point of Forced Listening is to listen to what you normally wouldn't?

Two out of five of my last batch of songs aren't metal anyway, as it is with most of my sets of recommendations in R&M. But, since you seem determined to go against the spirit of the game anyway;

Olivia Tremor Control - A Sunshine Fix (lo-fi Beatles-y rock)
Morphine - Honey White (jazz-rock)
Aereogramme - Sunday 3:52 (post-rock)
Clutch - Careful With That Mic.. (stoner rock/rock'n'roll)
Jesus Chrysler Supercar - Swampfoot (rock'n'roll)
King Crimson - Heartbeat (progressive rock)
Porcupine Tree - Piano Lessons (mellow/progressive rock)
Mr Bungle - Slowly Growing Deaf (funky/experimental rock)
The Flaming Lips - Race for the Prize (psychedelic rock)
Blue Oyster Cult - The Golden Age of Leather (classic rock)
Ben Harper - When It's Good (blues rock/jam)
Blues Traveler - Optimistic Thought (blues rock/jam)
Lovin' Spoonful - Nashville Cats (er..hillbilly rock?)
Beck - Hot Wax (easy listening/country/folk/blues/rock/Beck)
Jeff Beck - So What (techno/dance influenced rock instrumental)
Cock Sparrer - Watch Your Back (classic British punk)
The Kinks - Lazy Sunday Afternoon (classic rock)
Young Heart Attack - Sick of Doing Time (high-energy classic rock)

Take your pick.

dibs to the extreme

Kingofdudes 08-30-2004 07:08 PM

hell yeah, Mr. Bungle :thumb:

Badmoon 08-30-2004 07:19 PM

Ben Harper

Okay, I have heard Ben plenty, but never this song. I do like him and his playing a lot also.

The playing starts off with some great acoustic guitar playing, possibly with a slide. It has a great groove, and great backing and lead vocals. Background clapping just adds to the feel perfectly.

The lyrics are great, very interesting. The track is soulful, and has plenty of Blues influence, apparentley. I just can't stop mainly being fascinated with the guitar playing. It's so unique and just fantastic. I've heard few slide players who can match that.

10/10 Amazing song

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rusted Root - Rain (Highly reccomended)
Jesus Christ Superstar - Heaven on their Minds (if it says "disc 01 - 02, pick it)
The Grateful Dead - Cumberland Blues
The Grateful Dead - Ripple
The Grateful Dead - Brokedown Palace
Phish - Scent of a Mule
The String Cheese Incident - Black Clouds
Gov't Mule - Soulshine

All highly influenced Rock

Yeah....But like I said....

Anyways I sure can't complain about any of the recent lists of suggestions (except it's hard to pick) but unfortunately the grab's closed now. Oh well.

Bartender 08-30-2004 09:05 PM

Hey, I reviewed a damned Backstreet Boys song for the Pit's Forced Listening. Other people should suffer too :)

I'm revoking my dibs though, you can take it. It's 4am for me, and the download is going too slowly anyway.

Badmoon 08-30-2004 09:06 PM

What were you downloading?

Bartender 08-30-2004 09:07 PM

Cumberland Blues.

Over in the songwriting forum bashing goths, this time :)

Okey dokey, I've got dibs. Just got to pull myself away from the Dylan...

Jude 08-30-2004 10:19 PM

Alright alright alright!

Government Mule-- Soulshine (acoustic rock)

Well, I got a live version of the song, but it's good as anything I'm sure (had a hard enough time finding this).

The song is pretty straightforward. A pretty acoustic guitar melody Plays steadily with soft, laid back drumming (not in a bad way) and some vocals I don't really like.

The song stays very much the same for 7 minutes of it, but it's still very enjoyable. I don't like the guy's voice, but I love Dylan and Zeppelin so that shows I can get used to anything. The simple but good chord progression is keeping me happy and the vocals (aside from the quality of his voice) are doing a good melody too. At about 7 minutes the song finally ends as do so many acoustic songs, a wind-down, fast strumming, etc.

Very good piece of work. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys the softer side of rock bordering on country. Top notch. I'll probably get into this band, unless this is a better rather than worse example of their singer's voice :thumb:

9/10

Okey my suggestions!

*Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts by Bob Dylan (country/folk/rock) 10 minutes long warning
*Childhood's End by Pink Floyd (prog)
*1959 by the Sisters of Mercy (techno-ish weird rock, in this case just piano)
*Congo Sky by Tribe After Tribe (medium weight psychedelic rock from South Africa--beautiful song but you may have trouble finding it on filesharing services)

I'm awesome

Edit: And I don't even hate metal. Well...not all of it. Just a lot of it. I have been known to rock to a couple Metallica, Sabbath, and Rage songs. And of course Van Halen!
