It's got a lot of potential. The guitars sound pretty good but the riffs are way too repetitive. The drumming is solid but way too forced and desperate and the vocals are almost inaudible most of the time.

TojesDolan 09-25-2007 03:25 PM

That happens to me often when listening to DM. :(

I listen to many good riffs but they are usually filled with a bunch of chuggas and slayer-esque solos. :|

Dargon 09-25-2007 03:26 PM

If it has chuggas, it is probably nudeth.

TojesDolan 09-25-2007 03:28 PM

Well, not chuggas like MeCHUGGAHs, more in a vibe like "let's not change the brutality for TWO seconds of melody and let's brutalize this song off rarw rawr".

Dargon 09-25-2007 03:34 PM

like that chugging riff in Deicide - Dead by Dawn?

**** off, that riff is brilliant.

LifeInABox 09-25-2007 03:36 PM
alot of people say they're ELITE AS **** but I never really got it. However, unlike 95% of the other garbage that gets discussed here, at least they're actually death metal.

Well I wasn't really mentioning any particular moments. For instance some Exhumed sections in Slaughtercult foucs too much in pounding verses rather than having a good riff inbetween to keep interest.

I don't know it's a matter of focus and what you feel like listening, but I find boring the repetition in DM. For senseless repetition I'd go and listen to Corrupted, or Boris. Or for that matter, any Drone/Doom/Sludge band.

LifeInABox 09-25-2007 03:50 PM

Boris is sweet.

masscows 09-25-2007 04:00 PM

K, I just decided that my high vocal technique is straining my chords a little too much and I need a new technique. My mid-range still sucks too, but my low has definitely gotten better over these past couple days.

Eleventeen, need tips mmk.

Again, you're listening to shitty DM. Exhumed sucks.

TojesDolan 09-25-2007 04:10 PM

Decrepit Crescendo is the only bearable song in that album.

Dargon 09-25-2007 04:17 PM

Carcass won that entire style of DM in the 80s anyways.

TojesDolan 09-25-2007 04:19 PM

Symphonies of Sickness, for that matter.

masscows 09-25-2007 04:19 PM

Reek of Putrefaction doesnt seem very DM to me, other ones maybe.

RetiredAt21 09-25-2007 04:23 PM
Reek of Putrefaction doesnt seem very DM to me, other ones maybe.
That album rules.

EDIT: Agreed with Dargon, Exhumed kinda sucks.

RiceMonster 09-25-2007 04:37 PM

Yeah, Exhumed bis very mediocre. Carcass, on the other hand, rules.

Thor 09-25-2007 04:45 PM

Arbeit Macht Fleisch is such a sick song.

I like Molested.

Tyler 09-25-2007 04:57 PM

I'm still undecided. I really wish I could hear more of the vocals.

an entirely true statement.
Reek of Putrefaction doesnt seem very DM to me, other ones maybe.
thats cause its grindcore. my interpretation of the transition is something like this:
reek = grindcore (and basically the only grindcore i can stand)
symphonies = death/grind
heartwork = melodic death but not the gay kind like in flames

RetiredAt21 09-25-2007 05:47 PM
Yeah, Exhumed bis very mediocre. Carcass, on the other hand, rules.
Which do you prefer. Grind Carcass or (melo) death Carcass? I much much prefer grind Carcass.

Angmar 09-25-2007 05:58 PM

I'm partial to the melo-death carcass, mostly because I don't dig grind much though.

pate 09-25-2007 05:59 PM

After Necrotism Carcass sucks.

Deth 09-25-2007 06:00 PM

As I have said, I enjoy the entire canon of Carcass and many of their rip-off bands.

what about necroticism and swansong?

necroticism=death metal
swansong=****ing weird death'n'roll of some kind

Deth 09-25-2007 06:07 PM

Swansong isn't weird at all. It actually makes perfect sense as an extension of their direction when you listen to it.

Moon Flavor 09-25-2007 06:11 PM
Swansong isn't weird at all. It actually makes perfect sense as an extension of their direction when you listen to it.
But it ****ing sucks. Even as a big fan of Heartwork I can safely say that metal doesn't get much gayer than Swansong.

Although I've gotta say, I like 75% of Carcass rip-off bands more than actual Carcass.

yeah i forgot necroticism. i haven't heard swansong yet so i didn't include that one.

masterchaos 09-25-2007 06:19 PM

So is even old In Flames hated? Im talkin like Lunar Strain and Jester Race. I find those both to be extremely enjoyable

Angmar 09-25-2007 06:21 PM

I like them too.
