Making a thread on The Deftones is fine. Making a thread proclaiming them the best band ever isn't. Just chill.

Why not just ask to have the thread title changed and make it a general discussion thread about the band?

Here, read this thread, then go and make the best Deftones thread you can. Just don't put the words "Official", "Greatest" or "Best" in the title.
Well, we have had the best:
Classic Rock band
Metal band
Guitarist
Bassist
Favourite song
Favourite album

That leaves only drummers, keyboardists (though GurS ran that in P&K, I think) and frontmen.

I'm not sure if the mods will like too many more competitions in the future. Though in another year or so I might re-run the albums comp.
I can't see us doing a keyboardists one.

Are some of the others going to be re-run? Because I would LOVE to do the Greatest Classic Rock band one. :D

why has the thread 'goth poser' been closed yesterday? it was an interesting conversation about the definition what 'goth' is.... plz mods, give me an explanation. in my opinion there was no reason for closing it.

you can close threads when ppl are flaming and nobody discuss, but this was not the case !

It was an awful thread, and the topic has been discussed to death already. Besides that flaming was bound to start up sooner or later.

awful??!! why do you think it was awful... i don't think it was.
and because it has been discussed to death... -> its an interesting topic and there is no 100% definition what goth is and a lot of ppl don't know what it is. so i think it is important to talk about it

You could do Ballads
One-Hit Wonder
One Album
Over Rated
Under Rated

The original question was something along the lines of "this guy listens to slayer, but dresses like a goth. what do you thik a goth poseur is?"
That's a bad thread. If there isn't an accepted definition of goth then people are just going to argue the point back and forth for weeks.
If they really care that much about what the definition of goth is then tell them to go here.

Those competitions would be a complete and utter waste of time.

yes, that was the begin of the thread: "what do you thinkg a goth poser is?". but afterwards (if you have read the whole thread) you have realized that we pushed the thread to another topic and it wasn't only about poser anymore, it was an interesting conversation about the whole philosphy, the life, etc. of gothic.
read the thread as a whole.

I say give a waring to K-Eastwood he's been warned not to make that thread and ended up make 2 of them.

"Deftone - Greatest Band Ever"

Edit: He says he's sorry for doing it. I'd say if he does it again ban him but of course it's your call.

Well, if you feel it canged into somethiing worthwhile then you'll have to wait for the person who closed it to answer.

However what?

I can tell you now that Stairway to heaven will win the best ballad.
Hendrix will win One Hit Wonder.
And No one will be able to agree on over rated or under rated albums.

repcak 08-03-2005 10:39 AM

Being spectacularly annoying.

Multiple posting, bumped a year-old thread, went into an SP thread to bump it just to say he'd already made an SP thread, etc.

He made a couple of advertising threads in Punk/Pop-Punk recently too, though I guess that's irrelevant to the modding in here.

munky_magik 08-03-2005 11:21 AM

Advertising is advertising no matter where it is.

I would like to go back and read the other competition threads and I can't find them in the search(or not looking hard enough) Do you know where I could find them or things that I could type to simplify the search?

Stoic 08-03-2005 02:45 PM

a good idea is to figure out who's run a thread like. Then you can simply go to their profile, click threads started by the user and search for what you want. For example YPload did best bassist poll: http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/search.php?searchid=185601

The search won't turn up anything from before the database crashes that occured. The only ways to find the threads would be to use the 'View all threads created by' in a User's profile.
I know Riva did the favourite album, Pigs(onedifferent one) ran the metal band, YDload did favourite bassist, and Schyma did favourite guitarist, I think. But I can't remember who did the classic rock comp.

It's good that you are doing this, but pretty soon everyone will be doing personalised series threads, and we won't have anymore room to archive them. :)

They are quite informative, yes, but I'm not sure if any new series's will be included.

I agree. write-ups are always good, but everyone shouldn't be looking for an archived personalised series.
