YouGottaBeCrazy 07-15-2006 08:45 PM
comparing John Petrucci with other greats like Steve Vai, I've found that while Petrucci is more technical, Vai's guitar has alot of emotion. Just a tidbit I thought I'd share.

also, John could take a few lessons from Muhammed Suicmez, his sweeping is the best I've heard.
Satriani is more emotional of a player than Vai and Petrucci combined. And none of them touch Gilmour or Santana in terms of emotional playing.

eug008 07-15-2006 09:48 PM

Vai is the most emotional

YouGottaBeCrazy 07-15-2006 09:53 PM
Vai is the most emotional
Haven't you learned the golden rule around here. My opinion is fact. Your opinion doesn't matter. Deal with it.

 kidding of course

I think Gilmour and Santana are more emotional.

Rounder 07-16-2006 12:52 AM

How can you quantify emotion? Personally, I think when everyone says, ____ is more emotional, they are really just saying, _____ affects me more and I like them more. I would say almost any musician is trying to express all emotions and ideas through playing, and there's no way to tell who is 'more' of something that is so subjective. imo.

Never actually heard those two guys play

Chu 07-16-2006 02:22 AM

How do you know Petrucci's emotional expression medium isn't in his shredding?

If it was, he's pretty emotional, at times...

Lord Abortion 07-16-2006 03:28 AM

I laughed at the videos...

Prince of Darkness 07-16-2006 04:00 AM
Vai is the most emotional
i think it is, because he's got the CD on his computer now..downloaded it he said. i've NEVER heard about this bootleg...

i do realize however that most of the songs are from those fan club shows from 5YIALT.

but...interesting. and it's got SDV on there...and i thought they never played it live...

Prince of Darkness 07-16-2006 04:53 AM

That's odd.

ghettoeddo 07-16-2006 04:59 AM

well ima mooch it off my friend once i get back home on my real computer...so :] anyways, fake or not.

Lord of Sword 07-16-2006 07:14 AM

That's the bootleg of the gig where they recorded the live covers for ACOS. SDV is the demo version with KM on vocals, which is also included on the Stranger than Fiction bootleg. I want to hear this too though, I always wondered if James' vocals were overdubbed or not, since he doesn't miss a single note on the album.

Lord Abortion 07-16-2006 07:37 AM

Yeah, that's mostly the Ronnie Scott's setlist, that's on ACOS, and random other songs, that alot of is on the 5YIAL DVD.

Duman 07-16-2006 07:50 AM
If I was gay, I would go with James Labrie
I like your taste.

Mars Volta 07-16-2006 09:11 AM

has anyone heard of it? Is it good?

Yes, it's just my opinion. To me, Gilmour and Santana play with tons of emotions. More than anybody else, imo. You make a good point and I do agree with you.

I'm still in Canberra. Doing a Bachelor of Software Engineering at ANU, I want to transfer to Melbourne uni in a few years though.

Lord Abortion 07-18-2006 04:30 AM

Ghettoeddo: Yeah...I wouldn't mind it...I'm building my bootleg collection by leeching off people.
