:p

They're ugly and I hate them.

Nah whatever makes people happy. I'll have to bite the bullet and get a fiver one day just to cover the bases professionally. That's the excuse I'm using to force myself into parting with money anyway. Sooner or later some of my students will probably wind up with 5 or 6ers and I'll need at least a cheap one to demonstrate stuff on.
4 strings are the heart and soul of big basses too :p its not like those 4 strings disappear from big basses ^_^
Idk about you, but I tune my bass C#, F#, B (no EADG) C, F, Bb.

:p

fatbandit 09-25-2009 12:34 PM

idk, i don't tune mine

That is a hell weird tuning, two sets of fourths, a semitone apart? What's the grand plan behind that?

I figured that I essentially can play all of the EADG strings with the lower strings and have the higher strings to utilize for soloing. It's easier to play than having my 8-string with me. (I'm jk btw)

I need to take that 8-string beast in for another setup. My usual tech just couldn't get it set up correctly, especially on the C and F strings.

Does anybody else here feel that it's harder to do sweet runs when ascending versus descending?

Epidemechanical 09-25-2009 01:03 PM

dude

solace is probably the worst ****ing band name ive ever heard in my life

you are now COMPLETELY uninteresting

like

ive never heard a band name that made me hate you more

gaslight 09-25-2009 01:04 PM

You may as well learn to set it up yourself seeing as how unusual it is :).

I find sweet runs just as easy ascending or descending, though one thing I notice with me is sometimes if doing a lick that changes string with each note, I find it much easier playing from high strings to low than low to high. I guess that's because descending I can just rake the strings.

We just figured that solace is a state that we all seem to reach only while making music...why not call ourselves Solace?

Would "Finding Solace" be better?

There's something about it that's giving me trouble too. Part of it is the way the hipshot tuners slide back and forth and there's no screw or anything to be able to easily adjust it. I think it's one of those loosen-reposition-tighten-check intonation-loosen-reposition-tighten-check intonation... sort of things.

I just find it easier for my fretting hand to move down the strings rather than up. I guess my picking hand is the same way because I can "rake" of sorts with the same finger, where as I have to change fingers ascending.

Epidemechanical 09-25-2009 01:58 PM

no

anything with the word solace is just ****ing gay

Fuel has a song called "Solace"
A Perfect Circle uses "solace" in "Weak and Powerless"
Diecast has a song called "Solace"
...

Epidemechanical 09-25-2009 03:07 PM

and the picture of your band is also cringe inducing

what_a_bunch_of_douche_bags is all i can say looking at that LOL

Pluperfect_Arson 09-25-2009 04:35 PM

I cannot believe you named your band after an Ion Dissonance album.

fatbandit 09-25-2009 05:04 PM
yeah "solace" is like the tool-wannabe large bundle of sticks nu-progressive word its just retarded
Epidemechanical 09-25-2009 10:37 PM

oka is a rapper and producer who i've known for about 2 years. met him through nik and ben of TFA who post here

finally did a song with him

and ari is a girl who sings on my stuff sometimes. she did the chorus. i also did some vocals, and sampled george carlin. i did the beat. it'll be up later tonight.

gaslight 09-25-2009 10:45 PM

Cool dude will be fun to hear.

funkyhoney 09-25-2009 10:52 PM

My band just finished a promo DVD for studios and such.

gaslight 09-25-2009 10:58 PM

How do you mean for studios?

funkyhoney 09-25-2009 11:01 PM
How do you mean for studios?
Labels(?)

Just people so they can see our ****.

gaslight 09-25-2009 11:05 PM

Getting studios on board is only ever a matter of opening your wallet but it's a cool idea for shopping yourselves to labels. Put it in with your press kit if you have one and it should look pretty cool.

Well it was our managers idea as just sending the CD wouldn't be as good.

This has 3EP tracks, one studio and two live as well as two other live songs that've been edited, finished product is pretty sweet. Gives a better idea of what we're about, we think.

I liked about the first 15 seconds. Rap isn't really my thing :p

Seems a bit convoluted as far as ideas go, piano with hip hop backbeat etc. Rapping is too fast for the beat, like double time except it's not working.

The bits with the female vocals I like a little bit better.

Yeah, sending more looks cool. Trouble is most bookers and especially labels recieve so many things that they barely look at any of them, but on the off chance they do check out a press kit it's worth making sure its got a little more than average.

uhh, convoluted?

–adjective
1. twisted; coiled.
2. complicated; intricately involved

know words before saying them imo

further its spoken word raw passionate more so than rapping

its supposed to be free flowing and free form

thats the point

gaslight 09-25-2009 11:16 PM

I see what you're getting at with the vocals, that's more just a stylistic thing. Reminds me a bit of Doseone's kind of style.
