Yep, that's what i heard. If its true, i would die
|
Mikeal did say they'd be back in February. I'd see them again for sure, even though Porcupine Tree wipes the floor with them.
/unnecessary |
In other news I went to see Opeth at the House o Blues on Wednesday, setlist was very similiar to other shows. The show was really great btw and I'll probably post the details some other time.
Someone also mentioned that they would like to discuss the lyrics to My Arms Your Hearse and it defintely merits discussion as the album seems to be really well-written. I'd love to do it but dissecting a whole album is a pretty big task and the process would be better if many people joined together to accomplish it. I'd be willing to start with an April Ethereal analysis some time soon (when I have free time). Let me know anyone in this thread would be interesting in working with the lyrics, the more brainpower the better. Oh and I know I double posted. |
You didn't double post silly. This thread moves quick.
The setlists do look too similiar this tour, I hope they change it up next year. |
So... what do you guys prefer- Morningrise or Ghost Reveries? There was a poll of this on the Opeth board and i thought it was an... uh intersting question. It's Morningrise for me without a doubt
|
Talking about The Funeral Portrait, I love the "And you are just like them all, stained by the names of fathers" verse. One of my favorite clean verses by Opeth.
Hell yeah. It reminds me of Still Life, actually...The Moor in particular.
Mikeal did say they'd be back in February. Steven didn't really sound like he does on the albums (not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, but in this case I prefer how he sounded on the record). My thoughts on the PT show that I saw were that Wilson is really more of a studio genius than anything, and that Gavin Harrison is amazing. Although PT are good live, I wouldn't say that they "wipe the floor" with Opeth. *prays that a Opeth vs Porcupine Tree arguement doesn't break out*. |

Morningrise is a good album, but I still have yet to see in it what others do. I really just don't care for the old rhythm section that Opeth had...they're good musicians and have alot of chops, but the Martins are just alot more solid and groove like it's nobody's business. Those are attributes that I feel are much more important in a bassist or drummer than "ability to play X amount of notes per second." As a drummer, I find Lopez's playing on Ghost Reveries to be his most inspiring yet, and I like the music more, so I'd have to go with Ghost Reveries. Plus Mikael's singing and growling are about 100x better now. |

I was completely blown away by the whole performance. I thought...I dunno, it was perfect. I liked the way his voice sounded. It was a little bit more raw, I guess, a little darker. Just all aesthetics of the show were great. The sights, the sounds...The guitar tone was perfect, as well. You're a big drum guy, though, so you'd notice the drums more than I would. It's nothing against Opeth, though, because in my opinion PT wipes the floor with every band, haha. :P |

Yeah, well Mikael doesn't really like the material from Orchid and Morningrise, and I don't know if the whole band is familiar with it. It would be amazing if they played Black Rose Immortal or something though, but probably will never happen. |

Well it's probably because it would put a bias on new listeners. Orchid especially sounds a lot like Gothenburg, Opeth have evolved out of that sound. I'm sure they don't want potential listeners to say "generic Gothenburg crap", with the dual guitar harmonies and such. They probably forget them, too. |

I don't give a shlt if it sounds like Iceland, I love the album and would like to hear it live; the same goes for Morningrise. You should really read what you type before you submit your post.:amaze: Edit: I just realized you called Orchid crap. I hate you. Not to mention that album got be hooked on them. Don't post ignorance in here ever again. Look the word up, your posts describe that term well. |

People who heard Orchid live could mistake it for Gothenburg. I've met many who would write off any Gothenburg band as "generic and boring". I never said it was crap, although I rate it very low compared to other Opeth albums. Don't be so affronted if I don't adore every ounce of material Opeth has released. It's a disjointed, sloppy and amatuer album in my mind. |

Ignorant people make me angry. I depsise it. Especially when they concur their opinion as a ''norm''. If you don't like Orchid, don't waste your time typing it. Period. |

People have the right to have their own opinion, and if you don't like it, ignore it or dont make such a big deal.... Its as simple as that. I know it's your thread but not every post has to be 100% approving of everything Opeth has released. |

OK. He was saying that some newer fans who are more familiar with Opeth's more recent albums might immediately stereotype Orchid as generic Gotherburg crap. He wasnt saying that he himself thought that was true. Get it? |

Not only that, I never posted my opinion originally. I simply said why I thought they didn't play songs off Orchid and Morningrise live. Only when you totally took my post the wrong way and blasted me did I admit that Orchid is not one of my favorites. |

Exactly! That's, say it with me , I G N O R A N T. How the fvck does he or anyone else know what other people think? That's his ignorant opinion. Not to mention it's far fetched. Get with the march and listen to the albums before you try defending strangers on the internet. |

Making assumptions doesn't equal ignorance.
Get with the march and listen to the albums before you try defending strangers on the internet.
I listen to Opeth every day, and know all their albums quite well. |

Make a new account, you're going nowhere. You're not witty or intelligent. You don't know shlt about shlt. You got boned, and there's no coming back from it. You deny posting your Opinion when saying Orchid is Gothenburg crap?????? wow, gtfoh...throw your keyboard in a lake, please. |

 Don't post my reply, this doesn't concern you. Nevermind, you can post what you want, my bad side ''folder'' has plenty of room. :D |
Shut up, this is our arguement. Let him talk, or are you his mother?
Actually I was trying to end this by letting you speak yourself out. I never said they were Gothenburg "crap". Many people who I've met regard all Gothenburg as being generic and boring. I said the band may not want those listeners to be put off, as their new sound TO ME sounds nothing like Gothenburg, although TO ME their Orchid album has identifiable traces of it. I'm sorry if my previous posts offend you, I'm pretty new to this site, and I've said some things I regret saying. Can we please settle this argument amicably? |
