these are not needs until they are conditioned to be so. We only see what we are exposed to. Obviously everyone desires acceptance once they are accepted in any way with any person. Even if acceptance becomes a need doesn't mean it leads to depression or anxiety without it. It all depends on your perspective. I think you have to factor in how the internet has made it so there is always possibility to find somewhere to communicate whether or not there is acceptance.

the internet has changed a lot. we are the first generation to have it, we still have no idea what it will lead to decades from now

it can be predicted people will become more and more liberal and de-sensitized just from the experiences pretty much every internet dweller has experienced either in one or both ways.
