Yeah, mostly JF is much, much better as a solo artist.
|
And it looks like his replacement will be Josh Klinghoffer.
Good luck, RHCP. You're gonna need it. Hey, maybe a new guitarist will bring something fresh to the band. From the sounds of it, Frusciante hasn't really cared much about his place in the band for a while and just wants to do his own stuff. |
So they bring in someone who has worked intimately with Fruscinate on every one of his solo albums since Shadows Collide. lolwut? At best, they'll get a JF-clone, but, meh. My interest in the band is solely centered on him, anyway. Maybe he'll tour... that'd be nice.

So angry things have happened on Friday... Lets start it out with I just tried out for Jazz Ensemble and did (what I+5 (out of 7)other musicians) thought was good, then this kid gets up on stage says he doesn't have his bass but has been taking lessons for 4 years of which he cannot remember where... (Here is the kicker) He gets picked, the two others who didn't think it was good was his friends. Practice was today I showed up just to listen and such... Guess who "forgot" his bass again, then was told he can use one of the schools but said no because it wouldn't be the same... >:O It wouldn't be as bad is if he had someone to vouch for him other than his 2 scene/hipster friends...
|
Yeah, I haven't cared much about them in a while, but they still have good songs here and there.
Well, By The Way was actually pretty good. Stadium Arcadium was pretty much a flop in my eyes, except, as I mentioned, songs here and there. I have no doubts that Frusciante will continue making great music. RHCP, I don't really care, but a new person might be a positive for the band if the guy that was there didn't want to be there. If he did some touring for his own stuff... oh man, that would be incredible. |
I didn't really see that happening to be quite honest.

Stadium Arcadium could have made a decent single disc album, but there was too much mediocre material on it for me to give it much play time. |

Personally I used to hate BTW, but now I really enjoy it. SA I think does have a lot of good music on it, but it does feel like it's trying too hard to be something it's not. But if we look at BSSM and Californication, arguably their two best albums, neither have that over-produced, cross-genre feel. Although it kinda sucks if it's true John left I think a guitarist who is... well, less ambitious could work well for them. It seems like he has too many ideas musically to work well in a band sometimes. In other news, Stargate Universe is pretty cool. |
I hope this MTD trade comes through.
**fingers crossed** I need to cruise home and grab my bass to go put it in the shop, though. |
I need to take my bass out of its case and play it, lol. I've been preoccupied playing video games and writing music in Reason. I've a new song that I'll upload when I get home tonight. Becaus I know people care.

I need to get up to Canada and play your bass too. I'm hoping the girlfriend and I can afford to do a trip this upcoming summer. EDIT: Ouch. $900 plane tickets from here to that side of Canada. |
anyone want to give a opinions on this mix?

Darn. My band is doing demos for the album at the moment, and we're doing it on the cheap to keep costs down, and hopefully get it done quickly. So the drums have been recorded already with a friend of ours, but the guitar is being recorded at the guitarist's house through his Line 6 Guitarport (which sounds pretty lol for the distortion, but it does the job for a demo quite happily). I'm supposed to be doing the bass at my house too. But I'm not really set up for it.
I have an external soundcard with two inputs, but that's about it. I have some monitors on order though. Can't do anything until they get here. Originally I was just going to go direct into the interface and amp sim using Guitar Rig, but now I'm planning to utilise both channels of my recording interface by sending a DI signal from my EBS Microbass II to one channel for fundamental bassy tones and cleans, and then mic my amp and send that overdriven sound to the second channel. All being well, that should sound awesome! Especially as my new Matamp head is just about finished and ready to pickup :) I'll need to do it in the daytime when there's nobody to disturb in the house or next door, so I can crank the Matamp. But I'll also need a microphone :/ I have a Sennheiser e835 that I bought for my vocals in the band which I can use, but I don't imagine that will sound ideal. When did microphones get so expensive? I want an SM57, but they're about £100 :( I've had a lot of people telling me to use a kick drum mic, but I reckon a 57 would be a better investment as a "it will do anything pretty well" mic for home recording, and I only really need the mic for the mids and treble. I'll be using the DI for the lows. It'll also be the mic I plan to take round for shows as well - I'm aiming to do the same thing live as I do recorded, with blending the DI with the aggressive mic'd sound. Hmm. Where can I buy cheap mics? |

Just sayin'. |
Ok pretty good first part, maybe a little long but maybe ur goin for that sounds good.
The second part drums are good, and the synth voice is nice, but the....idk what to call it, spiderman web sound swuinchy swuinchy i dont like at all i think you need to work on that get it not so strnage sounding relative to the rest of the piece. The third part is good, nice solo but maybe you might want to switch up the drums do something in double time half way through the solo/long synth voices to keep attention. And the fade out/killing off of instruments is a little boring and really long but again maybe your going for that. pretty good i liked it except the swuinchy spiderman web sound. |

It's 5am and I'm still awake. Final in 6 hours that is worth 100% of my grade.
Thank you, RedBull. |
Yay energy drinks

So what's every ones favorite string? Mines the G slightly out of tune...
|
E if it's roundwound, A if it's flatwound.
|
I think A. E is great, but A is a good sound.
|
The B string, up until the E.
|
F#.
Apparently, just writing F# isn't long enough for MX's minimum post requirements ¬_¬ |
Gotta be C# (standard D-string detuned a half-step). It's got so much personality.
Fatty, are you referring to a low F# or a detuned string? |
So what's every ones favorite string? Mines the G slightly out of tune...
well that's retarded |

Fatty, are you referring to a low F# or a detuned string?
Just a string tuned to F# below standard E ;p Mind you, I've never owned a bass with an F#, and when I've played them, I haven't been using an amp that will reproduce it properly :( |
Just a string tuned to F# below standard E ;p
Mind you, I've never owned a bass with an F#, and when I've played them, I haven't been using an amp that will reproduce it properly :(
I have a low F# string and an amp that produces some pretty low sounds, but I've never cared for the way it sounded. I don't feel that they have as much bite or upper-middle range harmonic to them that the other strings have. I'd like to try a Knuckle Quake to verify (seeing as those get GREAT reviews). |
Get a Dingwall.
|
Get a Dingwall.
I played the Combustion (I know, I was supposed to post a review...but I suck), but I found the electronics very lacking. The action was also high, and, in lieu of a 37" scale, the B-string was extremely light - maybe .125 - so the string gauge really negated any playability effects as far as floppiness is concerned. I was rather dissatisfied by what I played. If they made a 6-string version for the price, I'd pick it up and give it a setup, some heavier strings, and do an electronics swap. The fanned frets were a little interesting and difficult at first, but felt pretty natural, so I can see how the transition would be extremely easy. I also have to give credit that the tone was EXTREMELY consistent among strings, so that's a good benefit. |
So what you're saying is you didn't like the action (which you can change), didn't like the strings (which you can change) and didn't like the electronics (which you would change anyway)?
Idk, I've never played a combustion. Wouldn't mind a go though. |
So what you're saying is you didn't like the action (which you can change), didn't like the strings (which you can change) and didn't like the electronics (which you would change anyway)?
Idk, I've never played a combustion. Wouldn't mind a go though.
Pretty much. Good electronics from the get-go is something I'm looking at more and more these days. Also, given that these were all supposed to pass through Sheldon's shop for inspection and setup, I was a little disappointed. It was lightweight (felty dinky IMO) and I seem to remember a bit of neck-dive, but without a strap, it's hard to tell how it will hang. All-in-all, I'd say it was about the same as a Mexican Fender as far as quality is concerned. Basic finish, standard electronics, nothing-special hardware...I think the price is mostly for namesake and novelty at this point. |
I'm a fan of the B, A and G.
E and D dont really do it for me. |
well that's retarded
How so sir? |
Maybe he likes it a little out of tune for the benefit of the harmonics it produces.

the benefit of having out of tune harmonics? idk about that... |
When I quit the band, over a year ago, we were on an indefinite hiatus. There was no drama or anger involved, and the other guys were very understanding. They are supportive of my doing whatever makes me happy and that goes both ways.
To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. Upon rejoining, and throughout my time in the band, I was very excited about exploring the musical possibilities inherent in a rock band, and doing so with those people in particular. A couple of years ago, I began to feel that same excitement again, but this time it was about making a different kind of music, alone, and being my own engineer. I really love the band and what we did. I understand and value that my work with them means a lot to many people, but I have to follow my interests. For me, art has never been something done out of a sense of duty. It is something I do because it is really fun, exciting, and interesting. Over the last 12 years, I have changed, as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature. There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do. Sending love and gratitude to you all.
Deep. |
