Mr Herb 06-17-2005 11:39 PM

Could someone tell me how many toms are needed to play lateralus?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-17-2005 11:39 PM

Well, Moses is supposed to do them, but I've not seen much progress, so if you wanna take a whack at one of the songs, be my guest. :D

About the post above me-None. you just need one Danny Carey.

lolz

Magicaltroll 06-17-2005 11:41 PM

Hey Kage did you grab that Holy Gift mp3 that AJIG posted awhile ago?
I need it again... It got erased, so if you do, and if you could upload it, I'll like love you.

I know... It's lame, but that "I'll love you" is all I could think of :p

Kage 06-17-2005 11:43 PM

Yes, let me dig it up.

@Jake: yuk yuk.
Could someone tell me how many toms are needed to play lateralus?
able to be improved on 2(meh) can easily be played on three(what i do) and if you have two floors you can do it perfect. im poor so i made an awsome way to play it on three toms. if i had a 18 inch floor tom the fill he does in between "SPIRAL OUT" duh duh duh duh "KEEP GOING" would sound much cleaner.

on my recording i wonder if its possible to add some reverb and "up" the bass so you can hear the kickdrum more?? and if we could find a way to reduce those dam'n loud hi-hats it would sound a lot better too.

Mr Herb 06-17-2005 11:51 PM

yesh hi hats were to loud. ive got 2 toms and a floor tom, I just cant get it to sound right. o well

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-17-2005 11:52 PM

Let Ben know what you want done to make it sound better, and I'm sure he'll be able to figure out a more suitable eq. I've not heard it, so don't take what I'm saying as what I think should be done, I'm just going off of what you're saying. He could probably boost the bass. that would be easy. And maybe if he dropped the treble that would cure this loud hi hat.

Futuro 06-17-2005 11:57 PM
Thank you.
Sorry for taking so long to post this, but it seems I have lost the file. I tried to tell you this about an hour ago, but I couldn't access the forums for awhile, as happens all too frequently.

I don't know what happened, the file seems to have mysterioulsy disappeared.

Magicaltroll 06-18-2005 12:59 AM

It's alright.
I can probably give it to someone else.

Thanks for the effort though, I appreciate it.

heavydoom 06-18-2005 08:10 AM

ok, i havent been keeping up with threads the last month or so, just came on and found the whole cover comp thing, i have a Drop6 guitar in my hands as we speak (ie a 6 string at open B), to play Parabola if someone wanted, (i have like 3 weeks to get it down after june 30th), thanks to the deadline extension on the comp, so if u REALLY wanted to do it, then i could hammer it out, or i could do some guitar work on Lateralus (i noticed somewhere u mentioned that u needed a guitarist for it)... anything needed just PM, ill be keeping up with this forum for the next few months so i dont miss anything...

cheers

denboy 06-18-2005 08:38 AM

Faith, I'm loving your lateralus recording.. Awesome playing

Mambuto_O'Mally 06-18-2005 08:46 AM

On which page is the Lateralus Code thing?

denboy 06-18-2005 09:50 AM

Here's a clip of me playing some of the guitar over faith's lateralus drumtrack.. And a little bit of singing because I'm bored.. heheh

How's my guitar tone?

Futuro 06-18-2005 09:51 AM

HOLY CRAP!!! this has nothing to do withTtool but i heard that band kyuss this morning....OMG it was awsome as hell!! the songs were called Molten Universe and Deamon Cleaner. really cool shiz. Molten universe has this awsome riff through the entire song.....but it didnt get boring....it was awsome (i suck at explaining things) if you are a fan of tool you will most likely enjoy Kyuss.

clearvision 06-18-2005 10:03 AM

Twas nice knifeboy, nice effect on the voice...tone maybe a little bit scratchy, too much treble? But thats just me bieng picky.

denboy 06-18-2005 10:03 AM

Kuyss is the sex.. Hehe Stoner-metal-rock kind of music

you sound like maynard.

guitar needs a bit tighter distortion IMO but then again i suck at guitar so my opinion prolly sucks

oh by the way who is that awsome drummer playing!?!? he is amazing!!!! :p
im so lame

denboy 06-18-2005 10:21 AM

Haha, that actually made me laugh out loud

And thanks for the tips, I suck at tweaking my tones.. Hehe
So I cut down the treble a bit, and played tighter (it wasn't the distortion, it was my playing lol) and now it sounds like this:
http://s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=28832UJSQ8GWL34G7Y3EHJ742J
The tone is better now, right? hehe.. Any more ideas?

clearvision 06-18-2005 10:42 AM

Sounds great, Lack of bass lets the recording down, though JoZ should be able to sort that :)

Futuro 06-18-2005 10:48 AM

im thinking of asking a friend of mine on MX to record some tracks for us. he has an account but rarely comes on.(ex tool cover bandmate) we used to jam all the time, he can play prison sex awsome.

Kage 06-18-2005 10:50 AM
Sounds great, Lack of bass lets the recording down, though JoZ should be able to sort that :)
Agreed.

Futuro 06-18-2005 10:59 AM

NO VOCALS !?!?!?! what gives they sounded exactly like it  it seems as if there is singing and whispering at the same time in there

denboy 06-18-2005 11:13 AM
it seems as if there is singing and whispering at the same time in there
You've got good ears

Futuro 06-18-2005 11:15 AM

i can sing and whisper also....but the whisper comes out of my butt :D

denboy 06-18-2005 11:16 AM

I bet that's a good icebreaker at parties

Kage 06-18-2005 11:24 AM

The singing on the original clip was cool...didn't sound exactly like Maynard but Im sure you didn't want it to. It had a cool, unqie vibe to it, while staying true to the original. I'd be interested to hear some more of it!

Futuro 06-18-2005 11:26 AM

im gonna record stinkfist know, just for the hell of it.

denboy 06-18-2005 11:39 AM

I wouldn't mind doing more of the vocals for this track, but I doubt I could pull off anything but the talkinglike verse parts

Edit: or, another person that could sing this song, could send me their recordings and I could do the same mixing trick I did on my recordings

Adam Jones actually played with them, either live or in the studio. Perhaps both. :shrugs: They're a pretty cool band. Scott Reeder, Kyuss' bassist at some point in time also auditioned for Paul D'Amour's vacant bassist position, but he was blown out of the water by Justin. :p Tool have actually covered Demon Cleaner. :D

I'm just a font of Kyuss knowledge, and I've only heard one of their songs. :D

Faith- Hehe about your whisper joke. Do you have the JoZ's Stinkfist backing track? If not, oh well. :p

Reeder also auditioned for Metallica. You owe it to yourself to find a copy of "Welcome to Sky Valley" if you are a fan of rock, friend.
