Draghkar 01-01-2006 07:26 PM

1. Morningrise
2. Orchid
3. Blackwater Park
4. Still Life
5. Damnation
6. Deliverance
7. My Arms, Your Hearse
8. Ghost Reveries

On another note, Opeth is, despite the fact that they are not the most atmospheric or emotional, my very favorite band.

Dark Tranquillity and The Devin Townsend Band opening for Opeth next year!
Wicked! I heard that it was gonna be Into Eternity on the Canadian tour, but damn, I would have nothing against seeing Dark Tranquillity instead! They're one of my favourite bands, and I was really disappointed I missed them this year.

Thor 01-01-2006 07:36 PM
1. Orchid
2. Blackwater Park
3. Morningrise

Still Life and Ghost Reveries would probably come in next, but I haven't listened to them enough to pick.
You put Orchid first? That's a first, most Opeth fans don't think much of that album when it's up to their other releases.

BlindWriting 01-01-2006 07:38 PM

I'd have to say:

1. Blackwater Park
2. Ghost Reveries
3. My Arms, Your Hearse
4. Damnation
5. Deliverance

I've only heard The Moor and To Bid You Farewell from the albums I'm missing.

And that's interesting news about the tour, Devon Townshend's a crazy guy, and I still haven't heard any Dark Tranquility. What genre of metal are they?

TojesDolan 01-01-2006 07:39 PM

Due to recent mood changes:

1. My arms, your hearse
2. Damnation
3. Still life
4. Blackwater park
5. Deliverance
6. Orchid, morningrise

But because I've listened to it over and over, Ghost Reveries is like 3.5 or so. Its tough to chose an album over the other, since for instance, I have a thing for Blackwater park, but the s/t song isn't exactly my favorite. Tough choice.

Oh yeah the DVD. Never forget the DVD.

Deth 01-01-2006 07:39 PM

Well for my list I suppose it would be:

1. Still Life
2. Morningrise
3. MAYH
4. BWP
5. Damnation
6. Deliverance
7. Ghost Reveries
8. Orchid

BlindWriting, DT are melodic death metal. Check them out for sure, they'll be a great opening band.

I haven't heard The Devin Towsend Band before, but seeing Opeth and Dark Tranquility together should be one hell of a show.

Deth 01-01-2006 07:42 PM

I only just got into Devin Townsend, but it's really good. It's cool progressive with some genius parts.
I only just got into Devin Townsend, but it's really good. It's cool progressive with some genius parts.
Well if it's prog rock then odds are I'll like it. I'm such a sucker for that genre.

naboo 01-01-2006 09:40 PM

1. Morningrise
2. Still Life
3. Blackwater Park
4. My Arms, Your Hearse
5. Orchid
6. Deliverance
7. Ghost Reveries
8. Damnation

That's really hard and probably not right.

espjunkie 01-01-2006 09:54 PM

From what i'm liking so far.
I've got all albums, but i've got to listen to a few more.

1. Blackwater Park
2. Still Life
3. Ghost Reveries
4. Damnation (Ill prolly play this at my funeral :))
5. Deliverance
6. Orchid

Six Foot Revolver 01-01-2006 09:59 PM

1) Blackwater Park
2) Deliverance
3) Damnation
4) Ghost Reveries

I'm a complete Devy fanboy. I hope you've checked out Terria already? If so, a great album is Infinity, as well as Accelerated Evolution.

I'd say,
1. Still Life
2. Blackwater Park
3. Ghost Reveries
4. Morningrise
5. Deliverance
6. MAYH
7. Orchid
8. Damnation

The Cynic 01-01-2006 10:22 PM

1. Blackwater Park
2. Still Life
3. Ghost Reveries
4. My Arms Your Hearse
5. Deliverence
6. Morningrise
7. Damnation
8. Orchid

Darkness 01-01-2006 10:35 PM

As I've said before, I don't really have a favorite Opeth record, nore can I rate any of them. I just like them all. Why compare? They're all perfect for what they are. :)

That might be fine in Kanadia, but that crap doesn't fly here in Amerika.

1) Still Life (They'll never top it. Ever.)
2) Deliverance (The Blackwater Park killer)
3) Damnation (The calm after the storm)
4) Blackwater Park (Superior to Morningrise only because of the great vocal work)
5) Morningrise (So many dual [and sometimes triple] riffs, it'll make your head spin)
6) My Arms, Your Hearse (I haven't listened to this enough)
7) Orchid (It's like Morningrise, but not as good)
8) Ghost Reveries (Meh)

Darkness 01-01-2006 11:32 PM

It's just that I change almost daily of which Opeth album I like more. It depends which I'm listening to. If I'm listening to BWP, I'll tell you that it's their best. Same with the rest of them.

It also has a lot to do with what mood you're in.
I haven't heard The Devin Towsend Band before, but seeing Opeth and Dark Tranquility together should be one hell of a show.
Oh sweet Jesus, there is NO way I'm gonna miss that now.

Dark Tranquillity is by far the greatest Gothenburg band ever, Opeth is one of the best progressive bands ever, and Devin Townsend's the best crazy Canadian ever. All put together, that would make anyone self combust with anticipation.

matt4 01-02-2006 12:15 AM

Curent list for me:

1. Still Life (never moves from this spot!!!)
2. Blakwater Park
3. Deliverance
4. My Arms, Your Hearse
5. Morningrise
6. Orchid (If the songwriting was slightly better, it would absolutely own Morningrise)
7. Ghost Reveries
8. Damnation (great album, I just prefer the others)

This list constantly changes with the exception of Still Life. That has to be the greatest metal album ever recorded..of all time! All of these albums are AMAZING, and they all have their place and moods. Somedays I just have to have GR and nothing else will do. Same with each album. "Screw Still Life, I need Orchid!" type stuff, you know? :P I think that says a lot for a band when the fans have such a hard time picking out their own personal favorite albums because the all own so much.

Lev 01-02-2006 12:42 AM
Dude, you might want to ring them before February, tickets go on sale mid-January!

Yeah I reckon I'll go to the 24th too, now that you mentioned Anzac Day.

I have to wait til May to turn 17. This is a birthday present.

Yeah.
ooo, thanks for this info i thought they wouldn't go on sale till later, do you know the exact date??

lightningmetal666 01-02-2006 01:28 AM

Just a quick question, what album is the song Ghost of Perdition on?

I hear that song on Sirius radio all the time and despite being kinda long, it owns so freakin' much.

Their latest. Ghost Reveries.

Lev 01-02-2006 04:34 AM

opeth songs' length gives us more to enjoy!

Assault_on_357 01-02-2006 04:39 AM

They made a video for the Grand Conjuration and cut out half the good stuff >_<, but on the topic of favorite albums, Still Life takes it but I also like Morning rise alot and then comes Blackwater Park

Werny 01-02-2006 06:58 AM
ooo, thanks for this info i thought they wouldn't go on sale till later, do you know the exact date??
Nope, unless it's on the official website.

*checks*

Says nothing about it, to my knowledge. Everyday makes me feel less and less like I'm gonna get to this concert. I don't know anything about it, besides where and when it is, and the tickets are on sale soon! Hell I don't even know HOW to buy tickets!

Oh, my fave albums in order;

Deliverance (atmosphere + heaviness = the awesomeness)
Ghost Reveries (so pretty)
Still Life (takes so long to get into it, but yeah I love it now)
Blackwater Park (puts me in a weird mood, and isn't that heavy, so I don't listen to it much)
Damnation (awesome but it just isn't Opeth)

YEAH. They're all great though.

Jude 01-02-2006 07:38 AM

I always cheat on these list and put some albums equal to each other. However I'll try.

1. Still Life (reigning champ)
2. Morningrise
3. Blackwater Park
4. Damnation
5. Deliverance
6. Ghost Reveries
7. Orchid
8. MAYH

Wohmatak 01-02-2006 08:37 AM

Seen them 2 weeks ago live and they totally rocked... The show was 2 hours long and they played songs from all albums except Morningrise... And Mikael is a great showman :)
As for the music - we all know that Opeth are damn good musicians, I haven't heard a single mistake and they played everything the same is it is on albums (except some drum parts, 'cause they played with another drummer)

What happened to Lopez?
What happened to Lopez?
He's in Sweden right now because he is ill with a blood disease. That's all I can tell you.

magicbus 01-02-2006 10:58 AM
You put Orchid first? That's a first, most Opeth fans don't think much of that album when it's up to their other releases.
Orchid's been my favorite for a while. The lengthier songs on the album are amazing; the whole album strikes me as much more melodic than some of their other releases. Granted, I have never heard MYAH, Damnation, or Deliverance, but I'm pretty happy with the albums I have now.

Toaster 01-02-2006 11:19 AM

Oh jeaz, I just found Orchid and My Arms in my HMV!!! They must be stocked up from Xmas.

DaveTheAmazing 2.0 01-02-2006 11:58 AM

Hey gang I'm thinking about buying an Opeth album or two. I've only really heard "To Bid You Farewell", and I like it a lot. Which album should I get?

Darkness 01-02-2006 12:13 PM

If you like that, Morningrise. I'd (and most otheres here) would also recommend Still Life and Blackwater Park.

bucket 01-02-2006 01:30 PM
What happened to Lopez?
:amaze:

He hasn't been touring with them since halfway through Sounds of the Underground! It's been Martin Axenrot of Bloodbath filling in.

And I'm not exactly sure what's up with Lopez, I've heard different things from different places. Family troubles, blood disease, drugs... I wish Opeth would give us a current update.

Just to be a conformist, here is my list.

1. Morningrise
2. Blackwater Park
3. Orchid
4. Still Life
5. MAYH
6. Damnation
7. Ghost Reveries
8. Deliverance

suspect 01-02-2006 01:56 PM

Dude, from the Opeth site:

Opeth recently returned home from the first ever Sounds of the underground North American tour where the band shared the stage with Lamb of God, Strapping young lad, Clutch, Gwar and more. During the first weeks of the tour Martin Lopez became seriously ill and had to fly back home to Sweden for treatment. He's currently under supervision and is doing well and we hope for a swift recovery and return to his natural habitat....behind the drums.

I normally would trust the official band website, but they have not released much more than that have they? That was months ago and he still isn't back after "doing well". So he's not having a swift recovery? Tell us Opeth! I just want an update on what's going on.

If you like death metal, go for Morningrise to get the rest of the album then Still Life. If you don't like death metal, just don't, go for Damnation first.

Misery 01-02-2006 04:31 PM

Hey guys, I've been an Opeth fan for about a year now and I'm looking to expand my horizons. I own all of their albums, but I've only really listened to Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, Morningrise, and a tiny bit of each of the rest of them. I was wondering if you could recommend some songs to start with, especially on Still Life and MAYH... and well, Orchid as well. Ah, heck, just make it anything that isn't from BWP, Ghost Reveries, or Morningrise. :p

Thanks in advance.
