Glad to know I still remember the song well enough.

True about the drug thing. While the members did do some drugs, they were quite tame by comparison to most other bands in the 60's and 70's. Also, the music is not at all drug induced. Once again, bar Syd's work.

So true. Some guys at work wanted to hear Syd-era Floyd, so I brought in Piper At the Gates of Dawn. People were walking in the warehouse, hearing the music, and looking at us like we were on acid or something.

WetNoodle 09-10-2005 09:54 AM

Hey (sorry if this was asked)

Anyone know where I can get the Version of Pigs on the wing which is parts 1 and 2 together plus a solo? I keep hearing about this and i wanna check it out.

Right now I don't have a downloading program so if someone could at least upload it to YSI or something, or tell me where to get it. I'd appreciate it.

Or at least you know...comment on it. :p

Now I want to listen to PATGOD. I'm gonna go put that on now.

ak50324 09-10-2005 12:10 PM

I just got that bootleg song which takes where Ummgumma leaves off. The sound is totally awesome :)

nobodyblossomsforever 09-10-2005 12:16 PM

Just to start a conv... "Dark Side of the Rainbow". Anyone ever tried this?

DeusExMachina 09-10-2005 12:17 PM

PATGOD is awesome. Good times.

Dark Side of the Rainbow. We haven't had any talk about the synchs in awhile. Well, as people may remember, I'm not a big fan of Dark Side of the Rainbow. There a couple parts which are cool, but I think it mostly is just people stretching their imaginations ridiculously in order to see coincidences that just aren't there.

dr._feelgood 09-10-2005 12:18 PM

Never tried it, but I really want to. I heard WYWH syncs with It's A Wonderful Life too. And on a less-related subject, 2112 supposedly syncs with Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.

DeusExMachina 09-10-2005 12:23 PM

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is such an amazing movie. I <3 Gene Wilder.

How is the Echoes/2001 sync? I've heard it's good.

nobodyblossomsforever 09-10-2005 12:28 PM

Never heard about that one.

magicbus 09-10-2005 01:47 PM

My cousin showed me that Pigs On The Wing 1 & 2 with the solo song. I wasn't really sure if it was Pink Floyd or not.

bibbl 09-10-2005 02:08 PM

OK, I'm not sure what you guys are talking about with Dark Side of the Rainbow and syncs and stuff. Can someone explain it?

magicbus 09-10-2005 02:11 PM

If you turn on The Wizard of Oz and start DSOTM at the third MGM Lion roar, they're supposed to sync up together. Like the scenes in the movie will match with the music.

Ok I'm dying. This is torture. I really want to listen to Saucerful of Secrets, but I can't find my CD so I need to listen to it on my computer. But my dad won't let me turn on music because he's sleeping on the couch besides me.

Maybe I will go downstairs and listen to something...I've gotta figure out what Pink Floyd albums I have downstairs. I suppose only The Wall and DSOTM, man, I've got doubles of DSOTM on vinyl except one album is so scratched up its unlistenable (which is why I bought another one). Although sometimes I don't even realize I'm listening to the scratched up one for like half an hour and I realize the needles been stuck in the same groove for like 20 minutes. It never really sounds that bad though, so I don't notice it. It just gets sort of repetative.

NEWSFLASH!!!

my dad just told me that on the radio this morning Floyd were played, and they are considering making a comeback album. Roger Waters said the rift between him and the other band members was healed, and being up onstage together at Live8 was brilliant, and they are considering reforming properly.

i hope they at least tour again, i would get a ticket sooooo quickly!

sorry if you guys already knew this.

Mmm are you sure about that?

Josh 09-10-2005 05:03 PM

my dad seemed pretty sure, sounds reasonable to me as well.

I'll believe it when i'm holding the album.

Does anyone else see experimental/progressive music as an alternative to, rather than an excuse for, drugs?

hahacharadeyouare 09-10-2005 05:22 PM

i'm new on this forum, and i'm not speak english very well so i ask for ur sorry :P
tell an experimental/progressive artist that didn't used drugs in his life, or when he composed a song/album/somethin'
i think it0s impossible to do such a thing without being under drugs effects... so this kind of music leads to you to consume the drugs to experiment the kind of things they felty when they wrote the music... a simpy opinion (i think it's well expressed, right? correct my ortography please :P)

Welcome

Zappa didn't do any drugs except smoke cigarettes. I still can't believe someone as experimental as him didn't really do any drugs.

Hey, which Pink Floyd poster should I get?

The Dark Side poster
The one with all the naked women with the albums on their backs
The Animals poster

I can't decide, help me out!

I don't believe it. It's nice, but I've read interviews with bandmembers saying it won't happen, and I believe those more than the radio. The radio has been known to report on false rumors before.

I'd get a WYWH poster. But of those three, the women with the cover art painted on the back is probably the coolest.

thickasabrick 09-10-2005 09:04 PM
Does anyone else see experimental/progressive music as an alternative to, rather than an excuse for, drugs?
To tell you the truth, once I started doing drugs I also wanted to start making more experimental music. Now that's almost all I play, bluegrass is the only genre of music I play that I haven't saturated with experimental or psychedelic influences. But you are correct though, it can be a very good alternative for drugs. I find it's a new/different way of looking at and seeing into the giant painting that is music. Sort of like how some say drugs give you a new persective on life (or show you a new world altogether)...I feel that both drugs and experimental music help me explore deeper into my innermost conciousness of expression and thought. Alright now I'm just starting to sound like some sort of drugged up shaman wannabe.

All in all though I agree with you. You can dig further into your mind with music than you can with drugs (well maybe it's about half and half).

edit- Pink Floyd reuniting? I'll believe it when I see/hear it.

Oh man I'm listening to Jugband Blues right now and it just hit the chorus. I love this song! I'll do my loving in the winter!!!!!! Do do do do do do do do. I guess you can hear the words I'm typing.

TheDMV 09-10-2005 10:12 PM

I would purchase a Floyd reunion album whether it featured Waters or not. Pink Floyd was able to generate magnificent soundscapes even without Roger. I think they should (and could) release a new album with there current lineup plus whoever they see fit at bass.

BigTrav415 09-10-2005 10:45 PM

I have nothing to add right now. This post is absolutely pointless and just a way to get my postcount up and keep a standing in this thread. I'm just really really bored and too tired to think of a coherent thing to add to this.

So... Astronomy Domine rulz!!1
Discuss.

magicbus 09-10-2005 10:47 PM

I really like the lyrics to that song.
