Awww ^-^

Ya. I've determined that our "band" genre jumps too much, but in a cool way. Today they showed me their uber-fast "punk"-esque song [think Distillers, except not at all], and later we made a psuedo-reggae pirate song.

Not. Even. Kidding.

Song about pirates gettin' high.

And it started with an instrument fight with one of the guitarists.

Zildjian_man 01-26-2007 11:49 PM

Me band broke up after 1 pratice:angry:

I've got a question that I really need a serious answer for.

Why has the internet become the local immaturity dump? When did the principles of generocity and compassion and helpfulness get tossed out the window?

searously-Its garbagr like MTV that did it IMO

Sunshine 01-26-2007 11:52 PM

Awww, that blows Zildjian. But it kind of happened to me too, with my first...this one is looking to last =D

Chippy, the internet has always been that way. Didn't you know? The older you get, the more you notice it.

you (like most others) are too young to remember when forums were rare, but full of smart, intellegent people. This started changing probably around 2001.

I think Myspace really ****ed things over, though.

Zildjian_man 01-27-2007 12:00 AM

Are you in the over 30 club

9/11?

Chippy569 01-27-2007 12:03 AM

i'm 18 but grew up way too early.

the first forums I ever joined was "Unit Universe" (now TA Universe) for an old PC game called Total Annihilation.

Shortly after that, I had joined the Cheatplanet forums. God damn... that was like 1996 or so.

Total Annhilation? Freakin awesome. Never played it but I've always heard how cool it was and how its still considered the best RTS, even against all modern games. (but I do plan on getting Supreme Commander)

Yeah I guess I'm in your boat too. I joined Civilization 2 forums back in like 1997, which I visited once in awhile but not often. I then joined the Sierra Forums for a game that was later cancelled in like 1999, then I joined a Game Creation Forum in 2000 that I've been part of ever since. Idiots started showing up at those forums in like 2001, but really started coming into full gear 2002-2003.

The net's been full of idiots ever since.
they were never there
no, you're quite wrong. As I said, I've been a forum cruiser for nearly 10 years now, and I've seen a definite decline in maturity, especially over the past 4-5 years.

Seafroggys 01-27-2007 12:33 AM
oh i see that thanks for providing so much evidence to support your claim

while my tenure here completely supports my claim

****in look around

youve been around mx for a decent amount of time
yeah, 3 years. Your right about that.

Chippy569 01-27-2007 12:35 AM
they were never there

the age demographic that the internet (mainly message boards like this) attract is high school to college kids

what the hell do you expect

you're being way too ideal for a message board bro
guess you missed the post above this one.

-Many of the ancient sites I frequented have either dumped archives or simply disappeared.

-I've been on MX long enough to know that this place has changed... i remember when the Pit was respectable.

Chippy569 01-27-2007 12:43 AM

if 'ya can't beat 'em, join 'em........ yep that'll change the world.

Chippy569 01-27-2007 12:44 AM
and if youre looking for deep, metaphysical and philosophical questions, looks elsewhere.. unless you really value the opinoins of the immature and uneducated that inhabit d/p

the end sleep time
the "what is art" topic i started seems to be going pretty well. it's on page 4 or so and still on topic. There's a lot of "i think...." and not a lot of discussion. but hey, it's a start.

Chippy569 01-27-2007 12:52 AM
rofl why are you trying to change the world this is the ****ing internet you tool

i didnt join them, i have always goofed off in the pit

i was saying that i was once immature like you and felt i needed to take stands on things and 'make a difference' but once i realized the nature of this place i realized it was a silly and fruitless goal
Guess I should stop volunteering at my local FMSC, after all no matter how much food i package to be shipped off to haiti, congo, and rwanda, it'll never amount to anything. I'll never make a difference.

I suppose I should stop all the volunteering I do with my church too, because religion's a joke right? and even then, none of the work we do with the nursing homes or the shelters is useful to anyone.

That's right, the Internet, the 'land' of free informational bliss, the haven of data, the home of opinion, has not, can not, and never will be useful for anything because 18yr olds with a self-image problem due to their single parent family and whatever else a 21st century family uses as justification for poor behavior will ruin the entire idea for everyone, just for that little +1 on their self-worth.

yep, idealism sucks. what the **** were people like martin luther king, jr., gandhi, mother teresa, abraham lincoln, henry davidson thoreau, etc. thinking? why didn't they just conform like everyone else?

Chippy569 01-27-2007 12:57 AM
i mean seriously, what is your grand vision for this forum?
a place where musicians can discuss ideas pertaining to their art, including technique, equipment, theory, and ideas
what do you think mx's grand goal when he made these forums?
probably about the same. certainly not an immaturity dump, flame haven, postcount whoreville, and hack praise like its become.
what is the goal of any forum?
to share information about a given topic

fo·rum
3. an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest.
what can be gained by posting on an internet forum that you can't gain elsewhere?
speedy, pointed opinions, sometimes even with links to those "Elsewhere" places that can explain a topic better.
what are some disadvantages to posting on internet forums?
little kids, unverifiable facts.
how could you make this place better?
i'm always trying:
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=511703
do you htink more people would come here?
don't understand the question.... we get an influx of new people 'round christmas, yes?

or do you mean if i was trying to make this place "better?" I think if MX had a reputation for being high-quality, intelligent discussions, more people would come here. some examples...
http://www.techguy.org
http://www.cymbalholic.com
do you think discussion would become more intelligent and profound?
fresh ideas can lead to new discoveries, so potentially yes.
do you think we would change the world?
i think everyone can change the world.

we are drummers; we are artists. For some of these kids, in 5-10 years they'll be out in the music scene making records you'll be listening to on the radio (assuming there is radio...) and not even know it. They will have the opprotunity to change the world through their messages they play. And frankly, I'll be disappointed when the only thing they have to say is "death death kill kill sex sex sex krunk kill sex repeat"

pessimism is so passe.

Chippy569 01-27-2007 01:07 AM
if i was conforming i would be like the rest of d/p
what would that be like?

Chippy569 01-27-2007 01:09 AM

you didn't answer the question...

and i thought you were going to bed?

Chippy569 01-27-2007 01:16 AM
if you knew anything you would know i have answered more than my share of questions on this board with a great amount of knowledge... as much or more than the users held in high esteem here
i have not, at any point in tonight's argument, critiqued you as a person. Calling you names gets neither of us anywhere. however, I just want you to notice you wrote this in past tense.

Chippy569 01-27-2007 01:25 AM

having fun yet? i am :)

Recap:

I think MX could be better, if some of the immaturity would go away and discussions would stay on-topic.
Super Cameron thinks MX is just here for fun, in whatever form.
Super Cameron thinks the internet should just be for fun
I think the internet should be used for information first and entertainment second

and

i'm a "pseudo-chrisitian idealist" and an "uncredible douche bag"
did i miss anything?

Chippy569 01-27-2007 01:30 AM

ok :)

anything else we want to dispute before bed? I have to work in the morning

i'm equally entitled to my opinion and my right to voice it as you are.

Charlie Manson 01-27-2007 01:33 AM
no, i think you've done a better job discrediting yourself with your own posts than i ever will trying to convince you otherwise lol
I think the way you've been acting is discrediting yourself.

After all, the internet is for fun, nothing serious or academic. Who cares about being creditable?

mornin hold

quite suprisingly, my head hurts

DrummingBen 01-27-2007 03:11 AM

The internet is whatever you want it to be in most cases, except when people take over a forum or something.
