Steven Wilson conjures those up like no other.
Did Wilson work on Ghost Reveries? Because I heard about him working with Opeth from Blackwater Park through Damnation, but no mention of him on the new one... |
Nope. Still a fantastic sounding album though. One of my favorite sounding albums by Opeth.

He only worked on Blacwater Park, Deliverance, and Damnation I believe. |

That's what I figured, just checking...seems kind of weird to me that he just stopped...maybe he was busy with Deadwing. |
don't ever say that word in this thread again when it deals with Opeth, unless it has something to do with the concept of Ghost Reveries.
...then it's okay.
Elaborate please |

He was, and I believe he's touring right now with PT. I wonder how much better he would have made GR... The other guy (name slipped my mind..) did a great job, but Steve also contributed to keyboard, guitar, and vocal parts, which ended up being a huge part on the past 3 albums. |
Elaborate please
Read previous pages of this thread. David Isberg started this revolution. Don't get me wrong, Akerfeldt did not of this word writing, but if it wasn't for Isberg's concept, Opeth wouldn't even be a band. |
I can't get into In My Time Of Need though...I just hate the verse riff so much. The chorus is good, but the rest is...just not doing it for me.
Heh...too complex maybe? I know that complicated music can be hard to get into at first, especially if its complicated rhythmically. It's a very interesting passage, though....Mikael is singing a 2:3 polyrhythm against the rest of the band. |

Oh, one more thing...don't ever say that word in this thread again when it deals with Opeth, unless it has something to do with the concept of Ghost Reveries.
Look, I know you're kidding, but in my opinion, the Ghost Reveries bashing from you is getting really old. You've stated your opinion many times and have made it abundantly clear that you're not the biggest fan of it, but it's rather irksome to see you making these dumb potshots at it in nearly every post. I get it. So can you stop, please, unless it's in the name of constructive conversation? And to more recent topics, the big Damnation track that I despise would have to be "Death Whispered a Lullaby." The chorus is just so silly-sounding with its dissonances, I really dislike it. I've grown to love nearly every other song on it, though. Truth be told, "Weakness" is one of my favorite tracks, just because it's so sparse. Plus the vocal melodies in the bridge section are wonderfully eerie. |
I'm the only one that likes Death Whispered a Lullaby? Woah, I always thought it was a pretty likable song.

Yeah same here, especially the later verses when theres the vocal harmonies and that delicious drum beat (something about it that I love). |
To Rid The Disease is my favorite on that album. Vocal harmonies in chorus =
Oh sweet Jesus that song is beautiful. I really love that album, because in ways you'd never notice, it has Opeth stamped all over it. I mean, although it's not the type of music they usually play, it's instantly identifiable as them. My favourite song on there is To Rid The Disease. "There's innocence torn from it's maker, and stillborn the trust in you. This failure has made the creator. So would you tell him what to do?" :amaze: Does anyone reckon this is the same creator from In Absentia's "The Creator has a Mastertape"?
I'm the only one that likes Death Whispered a Lullaby? Woah, I always thought it was a pretty likable song.
Didn't Steven Wilson write that song? It's one of my favourite songs on the album, the intro riff is classic. I love the octave chords before the chorus... |
I'm listening to 'To Rid the Disease right now'.
Oh and bump. |
SW wrote Death Whispered a Lullaby. That song is amazing.
On Damnation... Death Whispered a Lullaby = To Rid the Disease > Windowpane = Closure > Hope Leaves = IMTON = Ending Credits > Weakness |
Tough.
To Rid The Disease > Hope Leaves > Closure > Windowpane > In My Time Of Need > Death Whispered A Lullaby > Ending Credits > Weakness |
SW wrote Death Whispered a Lullaby.
Only the lyrics. |
What were the lyrics called in Lamentations? Eevill something or other .
|
To Rid the Disease > Death Whispered a Lullaby > In My Time of Need > Hope Leaves > Windowpane > Closure > Ending Credits > Weakness.
|
Death Whispered a Lullaby is my least favorite song off Damnation.
I don't see whats so awesome about it. The harmonies aren't that remarkable, and the totally supersaturated use of the Mellotron is annoying IMO. One of Opeth's worst..it's far too simplistic and cliche for me. |
Hmm...for Dam nation...that would be tough, as I absolutely adore the entire album. Flawless record, IMO.
None of that > bullcrap from me. ;) Closure Windowpane In My Time of Need To Rid the Disease Death Whispered a Lullaby Hope Leaves Ending Credits Weakness |

Cheater. :upset: |

I was sort of thinking he didnt work with opeth on this one, because they are now signed to roadrunner. IMO
What were the lyrics called in Lamentations? Eevill something or other .
Eeviel Cruellty or something like that |

You're my go-to guy for drums from now on. EDIT: Yeah, it was Eeviel Cruelty  |
Death Whispered an Lullabye is my favorite off of Damnation as well...
My favorite part about To Rid the Disease is most definitely the bass. Mendez really grooves on this entire album, his best work with Opeth IMO... |
I've never heard any Opeth, but am curious. Anyone care to upload any for an Opeth virgin?
|
Let me see if I can get a few tracks up.
