On land, platypuses move a bit more awkwardly. However, the webbing on their feet retracts to expose individual nails and allow the creatures to run. Platypuses use their nails and feet to construct dirt burrows at the water's edge.

|
the plural is platypodes. please.
standard english plural is platypuses, just like standard english plural of octopus is octopuses if you want to be fancy it's platypodes/octopodes annoys me when people say octopi though |
why does that annoy you
|
why does that annoy you
probably because it's people faking trying to sound educated and are flat out wrong |
Technically it is okay to say octopus and have it mean more than one
|
cuz it just ain't right dammit
|
why does that annoy you
cause he's a linguistics major |
*shoots an arrow at mappy's right buttock*
probably because it's people faking trying to sound educated and are flat out wrong
no most people say that because they think it's right |
no most people say that because they think it's right
and they're trying to sound educated by emphasizing a false sense of superiority when they're really saying nonsense |
are you trolling me cuz you're being as dumb as adb
|
*shoots an arrow at mappy's right buttock*
/swoons |
cause he's a linguistics major
not really, linguistics majors actually tend to be more appreciative of improper grammar because we realize that what people perceive as improper is generally just based on usage it annoys me because i know ancient greek and latin and like paul said people who assume that it looks like a latin noun that pluralizes in -i that it is one |
wuzza' luv arra'
|
are you trolling me cuz you're being as dumb as adb
No trolling. People think it's right, but it's wrong. People have a bad habit of trying to smugly correct plurals that don't follow the standard rule, and almost every person I've heard say octopi does it with a shit-eating grin thinking they're smart when they have no idea that being a word with Greek origin instaed of Latin they're just showing how dumb they are. |
saw Drive yesterday
was really good, probably my favourite movie of the year I thought it was octopi but don't think that makes me educated that'd be like the same education level as knowing that "sheep" is the plural of "sheep" |
No trolling.

English is a pretty interesting language. I wish I knew more about it (the roots and origins).
