I've just listened to Bring Me the Horizon for the first time, and that guy has horrible vocals. When he tries to sort of sing/talk/whatever where it isn't mega screamy just sounds retarded, because he's clearly not even attempting to sound in key. And his actual screams are all coming from his throat, which just sounds lame.

Musically it's not bad; but nothing special either.

On a related note I could've swore that Oli Sykes was the name of some reject off X-Factor or something.

What's really annoying is that most of my mates in uni are of that particularly narrow-minded view that if you like something that they've not heard of, then OBVIOUSLY you don't like various media JUST BECAUSE IT'S POPULAR. Then the problem is, the only exposure they get to metal is really terrible deathcore/hardcore stuff that gets played on the radio and whatever, and they assume I'm into that.

Honestly, these people are 21 years of age, I would have expected them to grow up/realize that popularity is largely subjective. George Fisher, in many an interview, has said screaming just from the throat is bad - not just tonally and volume wise but it's gonna seriously mess your throat up after a while.

Yeah so screaming like that, and straining the shit out of your throat and ruining all those lovely vocal cords is a great idea. A good, sustainable screaming vocal performance should come mostly from the gut/diaphragm and the throat should only be utilised to add a high end harshness to your vocals, if necessary.


Also: I've only got 1 Opeth album, and I can safely say that they are a lot, [I]lot[/I] more talented and, to my ears, better, than BMTH or whatever.

True, that's where singing techniques and control over your breathing come in.

Tbh I don't know how anyone can say his highs are bad, or his lows, they sound fantastic to me, almost as good as Anthony Gunnells from Through the Eyes of the Dead.
