When they were recording RTL, after a gig in Boston (i think) most of their guitars and amps were taken including Hetfields favourite Marshall... he searched all over Europe for another but didnt find one and settled with one he found in Norway or Denmark or something...
Its not 100% proven that the only reason they wrote Fade To Black was because of that... as Lars said in an interview that James and him were toying around alot with the idea of death/suicide in a song. |
Poor you. I only hear Metallica songs earlier than the black album on my CDs.
How the hell does this connect with my post??? |
You said you only hear songs earlier than the black album on your CD's, while talking about One, one is before the black album
|
Offhand, does anyone know what brand bass cliff used in the later years (like 85-86) I know that earlier he used a rickenbacker 4003. I'm fairly sure its an Ibanez, but not positive. Out of all people, i should know, but i dont

Yeah what a sellout. When I was at my job, and they decided to stop paying me, I just stood there and took it up the ass. My heart goes out to those poor fans who proclaim love for a band but can't be arsed to pay for their music. |
Yeah what a sellout.

The band has a job, and that is to play music. It's not like Lars, James, Kirk, and Rob have second jobs to cover the rent, they make their living off of music, just like every other band. |
Metallica old stuff is awesome but i think that some of there new songs are alright not better than the old songs.
|
Metallica old stuff is awesome but i think that some of there new songs are alright not better than the old songs.
You don't say. |
People need to stop crying and whining about how metallica are sellouts. if a band tries to make it big, they need album sales, and they cant make that money when 500,000 people download that album instead of paying for it. I dont need to say this, people should just know it and support the **** band if you wanna listen to it. Metallica didn't need the money, but other bands that just come out need that money and when they dont get it, a good band could go to waste because lack of funding. Grow up already, its not hard to support something you love.
|
I completely 100% agree with you.
|
amen

So nice of you to contribute to the 15 year old conversation |
I have nothing but respect and support for Metallica and how they dealt with the Napster incident. Only a band with their chops could've done what they did and anyone who considers it "selling out" should ponder the cost of such legal action. Perhaps "paying out" would be a more appropriate term?
People of this opinion are also missing the bigger picture here, as pointed out by Paranoidd and ^Dream~Theater^; if a giant like Metallica had not taken this action, many up-and-comers would suffer as a result - the lack of monetary support for new bands would have resulted in a major hindrance to ALL musical progression. You may not want to hear this but the music industry is an "industry" and without this corporate, business aspect, most bands would never make it out of their own home towns. Oh yeah, favourite member = Kirk: excellent guitarist - great speed, technique, plenty of emotion and "feel" (That last bit is for cai2k :naughty: ) |

He's a more creative... and can make good solos also. He also sings and plays which isn't too easy. |
James was good at singing and playing, but he pales in comparison to a lot of others now.
|
I agree James gets full marks for creativity and has a great ear for a riff, but unfortunately his voice has lost that irresistable growl of his 80s prime. Kirk's still got it all though.
Jason gets my vote in the Past-Member category, however. |
I'd take James over Kirk any day. Lead players are a dime a dozen, but a solid rhythm player and singer is hard to find.
|
Paranoidd: Lead players are a dime a dozen
Heh, if only. I've had sod-all luck finding one for my own band. |
I'd take James over Kirk any day. Lead players are a dime a dozen, but a solid rhythm player and singer is hard to find.
Agreed, Hetfeild also does most of the song writting as well. |
Anybody can play scales. Sure, good lead players aren't that common, but everybody wants to be the flashy center of attention lead man.
A solid, precise rhythm player who can compose and play really good melody is hard to come by. Without a good rhythm player, a good lead doesn't matter. |
So its agreed. James owns Kirk.
|
yea James owns but he has a very wierd regulrar voice.
he sounded like a little kid when he played live... or is it on purpose? as for napster. who honestly gives a **** |
Cliff owns all. Before he died he was probably the best bassist in the world, in my opinion he would be loads better than claypool, whom everybody says is best, if cliff had not died. Cliff could play stuff on bass that some people would struggle to play on guitar. To top it off, he was the most musically trained of the band, and he wrote several large portions of some of the songs' guitar parts, aside from his own bass part. Last, he had the coolest personallity of the group
|
Why does James sign his name, 'Jaymz'?
|
Cause he's James godamm Hetfield and he does what he wants
I'd do stupid sh1t like that too if i was hetfield |
guitarcreep, do you realize that in your avatar, hetfield is playing lefty, did you flip the picture or something?
|
Cause he's James godamm Hetfield and he does what he wants
I'd do stupid sh1t like that too if i was hetfield
Yeah. The guys from the Dickies (no where near the calibur of Metallica, but still have the rockstar attitude) sign there names as penises. I'd sign my name with replaced letters if I could, but the closest thing I can come up with is Berandun. |
