That's not the point. You're the one who started insulting anything he liked, seemingly without provocation.
Of course I did. That's what I do.
Just got back from seeing the remake of The Longest Yard. GREAT movie; definitely the best I've seen this year. It was damn funny.
Oh no... I take it you didn't see the original (one of the five best sports movies ever made). five best: Raging Bull, Hoop Dreams, He Got Game, the original Longest Yard, Rocky |
I've seen the original plenty of times; I love that version as well.
Silly nerds talking about Star Wars.
In other news.. It's so FUCKING hot here in Seattle. It's about 92-93.. theres's a serious heat wave where we are. It's supposed to be gone by Monday. My house doesn't have airconditioning.. so every hour or so i put my feet into a freezing cold ice bath. I'm dying.. Seattle was not meant to be this hot. I just hope it's not this hot tomorrow at FOLKLIFE!! Weeee!!!
Heh heh... every time I'm in Seattle, you guys are always in the middle of a drought. One time, I came in the summer, over a course of time where it hadn't rained in eighteen days. 90-95 everyday, but what's nice is that it was 0% humidity. I can't speak from experience if this is the kind of humidity you are currently having, however.
Deep Blue Sea was still much, much better than Remember The Titans.
/stifles laughter
Remember The Titans was a horrible movie, but it's infuriating, patronizing shit with the most implausible football and non-football scenes in any serious sports movie.
Why, because of the racial tensions? Serious question. I'm not sure where you're coming from. But come on, it was in the South, and that town was small. High school football was the ONLY thing that kept that city alive. Think of the era that that movie was supposed to be shot in, and all the events in the world that were taking place. No one can deny, though, that one of the best football movies of all-time is Brian's Song.
Well being a white man I am embarassed by Vanilla Ice, but I'm not complaining about him, now am I?
Haha.
I'M GONNA GOUGE YOUR EYES OUT AND SKULLFUCK YOU
Yessssss. Good line.
So in other words, you like the most mind-boggingly pretentious horseshit imaginable? I'm just a simple man. Unlike you.
Okay, now you're just being a dick :-\
Yeah, what would I know about being stereotyped.
Jesus Christ, how many times are you going to play the race card here? Not everyone is tryin' to bring the brothas down (well, except madey, maybe). In your world, fine, I don't live in Chicago or Boston. But I live in fucking Detroit, where there are plenty of black men and women living in the city. The difference here is that a majority of them- neighbors, classmates, the Mayor- embrace being African-American, instead of saying "Boohoo I'm black everyone's tryin' to bring the brotha down, so I'm going to act like a condescending asshole on the Internet and attack everyone's opinions while trying to establish that anything that runs through my fingers is certifiable fact." Well, should you choose to go into politics like you say you will, then you're going to need to have all those skills.
You insulted people without provocation.

Of course I did. That's what I do.
Get the hell out of here, then, you prick. Shape up or shut the hell up. |
That makes the first one I've seen who likes both.
I don't mind Adam Sandler['s first two movies] but I have severe doubts that he can pull of the role as well as Burt Reynolds (who actually played football at Florida State, which is how the football scenes worked so well in the original). It also looks like they've also MTV'd the football scenes (read: Over-the-top hits and stupid camera angles). And the presence of Nelly and Tracy Morgan is never an encouraging thing. And the presence of Burt Reynolds is as if they re-made The Godfather with Jimmy Fallon as Michael, Vin Diesel as Sonny, Ben Affleck as Tom Hagen, and a mostly out-of-work Al Pacino as Don Vito. |

I really wasn't expecting the film to top the original at all. I went into the theater expecting to see just another new movie again, and it ended up being great.

Part of my point. But never mind, I guess, I'll delete the post. It was a mistake to write that coming into the thread so late. |
Eh, no worries. No hard feelings, Ray.
|
I shouldn't have done what I did.
I don't know why I do it, it's something I do subconciously, something that just happens. And I always grasp at straws, the race thing was completely unnecessary. And all I seem to do is derail the thread... |

That's over with. Let's pick back up on movies, shall we?
|
Alright.
I walked to the video store by my house with my family and dog. The place was picked over, and the special was four movies for seven bucks, so we made do with what they had: National Treasure (just saw it tonight... wasn't too bad, just kinda unrealistic in... a lot of parts) Elektra (this is to see if it's as bad as people said it was, even though Jennifer Garner is pretty... but she's lost stock now that she's a little preggie with Ben Affleck ) Ocean's Twelve (original was good, from what I remember) Flight of the Phoenix (my dad wanted it, don't ask... but is it any good?) Actually, who has seen the aforementioned movies, and are they as good/bad as people claim they are? And I'm surprised at all the positive reviews for The Longest Yard... I may go see that this weekend. |
National Treasure was a fun movie.
Elektra was that bad, yes. Although I did enjoy her performance in 13 Going On 30 Ocean's Twelve was good but not as good or fresh as the original Never seen Flight. |
Flight Of The Phoenix was good. :thumb:
|
Ahhh, movies...
...haven't been interested in seeing alot of them lately but The Longest Yard and the new Jet Li movie look good |
There's a new Jet Li movie?
I'm tired. 'Night everyone. |
'Night RCA.
What's the new Jet Li movie called? I haven't heard anything about it. |
There's a new Jet Li movie?
I'm tired. 'Night everyone.
Yeah, it's called "Unleashed." Basically, he was trained as a child to act as a dog trained to kill under this Russian mobster's command... but eventually, he runs into a blind Morgan Freeman, who plays piano. Li listens to the song and then starts forming his own behavior patterns and so on, and he starts breaking away from the mobster. The only way he can control Li is if he has a collar on him, but when Li stops him from putting the collar on, a bunch of asskicking ensues. At least, that's what I've gotten out of the previews. |
Morgan Freeman already played the ultimate "magical black man" in Bruce Almighty, when he was God. Why is he doing another role like that?

Because it pays well? :) EDIT: I am going to write some before I head to bed... so take care to all. |
I have a hard time hating movies. I mean, I hate about 90% of new summer blockbuster movies that come out just from seeing the same old setups in the commercials, but I know if I was in front of that giant screen watching it I would end up being sucked in for just a little while. Even when I can laugh a little at how hackneyed any random scene or piece of dialogue is, I'll still be captivated by the the whole show :(

TSG on Ocean's 12:
Rented "Ocean's Twelve" over the weekend. The first one was good-natured, well-done eye candy and ended up being surprisingly rewatchable on cable. The second one was incoherent, unfunny, self-referential, boring, ridiculous – in fact, if I had to write a blurb for it on a movie poster, it would look like this: 'A train wreck that's almost unfathomably terrible!' –Bill Simmons, ESPN.com
Holy cow...doesn't look good. I haven't seen any of the movies, actually...Flight of the Phoenix looks kind of intriguing, though. Also, I just Netflix'd Falling Down and The Killing Fields. What do y'all think of those two flicks. YDLoad: Along those same lines, I have no problem with implausibly stupid movies like Independence Day or the Ernest movies, simply because they know they're implausibly stupid. It's when a movie aspires to be serious and is implausibly stupid that I get angry. |
Does any one in here have the song Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman?
It's the old swing song that was played on the old Chip's Ahoy commercials, and I used to listen to that song as a kid...but completely forgot about it. Also if any one has any other stuff by Benny Goodman, send it this way please, it would be most appreciated. That would also go for any big band/swing music as well... /swing/big band rules /random uploads http://s23.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=10I10IP0DUIYW3FH9GH9581WQD Winter Of Apokalypse - Black Metal of Death, awesome black metal from Oregon http://s23.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3G5DJ8LK9WZM70ICGL8OU8E2LR Windir - Arntor, Ein Krigar, just cool viking metal... |
From big band to black metal...gotta love it.
|
Heh, that is kinda weird I guess.
But hey, I love music and I will pretty much listen to it all. Right now I am listening to J-pop and J-rock... |
j-pop is crazy.
Hell, the Japanese are crazy. I don't mean it as a negative thing, though. They're just off-the-wall. |
I will agree with that.
But they had/have samurai's and ninja's and sake, so they are cool. They do make some off the wall music though, but it is still great music. They also make great anime's and mangas as well if you are into that kind of thing. |
2:08 AM here. The idea of going to sleep has not occured to me? How is everyone?
|
I got nothing against Japan, believe me. Any country that sells beer in vending machines is a-okay in my book.
|
That would rule to have beer in vending machines...but this is America and that will never happen here, which sucks. That gives Japan another +1 to coolness...
And god damn, it is still like a good 75 degrees in my room right now... NP - Within Temptation - Running Up That Hill 'Tis a good cover. |

It has been in the 90's for the past 3 days, which is crazy in a way. We were having normal spring like weather for Oregon, rain, mid 50's temperature, then out of no where BAM! 90 degree weather...
Totally sucks to go through a transition like that... But it always rains on Memorial Day here, so it will probably be humid as hell. NP - Within Temptation - In Perfect Harmony |
It really has yet to be anything but cloudy 'round here.
But I have no fear, for the annual Boston Heat Wave will still hit like a haymaker to the city's glass jaw. |
So. One of my friends is stranded somewhere. She doesn't know where though, so I can't give her a lift :-/
|
Tell her that if she dies, you want her to know that you've loved her since the first day you met her. That way when she's rescued, she comes running to you and you get some.
Either that or she thinks you're insane and calls the police. Either way, you get her attention so you win. |
Like I need to do that to get her attention :)
|
I would. :upset:
