"There's no Dark Side of the Moon really. Matter of fact, it's all dark..."
|
I've been listening to More so often now, it's starting to get scary. :p
I'm such a fanboy. |
Yeah, there's some really good tunes on that, really over looked IMO.
|
Its the last album I need to buy before completing my entire floyd collection :)
Im not too excitied for it, but have been anticipating to buy it for a few months now. I'd like to hear it soon. |
The Gnome:
The Gnome I want to tell you a story About a little man If I can. A gnome named Grimble Crumble. And little gnomes stay in their homes. Eating, sleeping, drinking their wine. He wore a scarlet tunic, A blue green hood, It looked quite good. He had a big adventure Amidst the grass Fresh air at last. Wining, dining, biding his time. And then one day - hooray! Another way for gnomes to say Oooooooooomray. Look at the sky, look at the river Isn't it good? Look at the sky, look at the river Isn't it good? Winding, finding places to go. And then one day - hooray! Another way for gnomes to say Oooooooooomray. Ooooooooooooooomray. My analysis: wtf???? Sorry but that's all I got :( |
you know that i heard a rumor about this album that it is actually quite purposely constructed as to predict certain events that have occured since it was made. Apparently there are certain sections that predict the events of september 11 and the subsequent invasion of both afghanistan and iraq.
could it be that pink floyd are the nostradamus of rock? is it pure coincidence? did they have some unearthly insight into our futures that we didnt even know about?!?!?!?!?!? |
Did anyone know that the album Animals is actually how Pink Floyd viewed humans and the way that they react. Three main types, Dogs, Sheeps, Pigs. If you can understand this main concept, you can understand why the album is so good. Dogs~agressive people, Pigs~capitalists and buisness people who are infatuated with themselves, Sheep~ to put it into simpler words----pussys

It started out as a simple wake and bake but it turned into the greatest day of my life and this song takes on that story. One day I decided to wake and bake with 2 friends it turns out that we missed the bus and we still had like 4 bowls left. So we had to walk to school and on the way we decided to just skip and another crazy idea poped into our heads. We should go shrooming! On the way to the to the shroom feild we went under a bridge and smoked all the bud we had left and I took out my CD player and put in PATGOD. I skiped it to "The Gnome" and started walking beside a creek and I was listining to the lyrics it was was like Syd was singing about me! "He had a big adventure" We were having an adventure! "Amidst the grass" We were walking in grass! "Fresh air at last." We were skipping school outdoors hence fresh air. "Look at the sky, look at the river Isn't it good?" I was looking at a clear blue sky and I looked down and saw a flowing creek! "And then one day - hooray!" It was the day we discovered the psychedelic beauty of shrooms. We eventully got to the feild found some shrooms and tripped for the first time. It was anything and everything I ever hoped for. It was truly the greatest day of my life and now "The Gnome" is my shrooming anthem. :D As dumb as it may possibly seem to you this experince meant alot to me and I would hope you wouldn't want to disrespect that. ;) Edit: I ended up tripping in a tree for 3 hours. |

Sounds like a great day Schyma :) I'm amazed that you manage to get that stoned and still write semicoherent posts on the intraweb. Good for you :thumb: :smoke: |

Sheep are the average working people and Pigs are the wealthy upper class. Atleast that's how I look at it. |

What are you talking about? I was joking about the stoned thing. It really sounded like an awesome day. Trust me, I wasn't serious about the whole thing. Let's be friends :)
Dogs are the scum of society, thieves, homeless and the very poor. Sheep are the average working people and Pigs are the wealthy upper class. Atleast that's how I look at it.
Pigs: CEOs, big politicans, etc. Dogs: The motivated white-collar man, willing to doing anything to get ahead Sheep: The masses of the stupid, unemployed, blue-collar, etc. That's how I see it. |

Actually, it is based on Animal Farm, which is how George Orwell viewed a communist society. Edit: Show me a song as good as Wots Uh The Deal and I will show you a song which doesn't exist in this space time continuum. |

But as it's been stated a few times before in this thread, Animals was a satire of 1970's British capitalism, not communism. But yeah, they got the idea and motivation from Animal Farm :thumb: |

Are you sure? The dogs always struck me as being a parody of the Russian KGB, at the time the Russians were actively pursuing socialism/communisim. |
If you actually look at the lyrics, it looks like Dogs are the scum of society and Sheep are the middle class minions of the Pigs. The song Dogs is more survivalistic and Sheep is more about following the leader. So I think it goes that way.
"Meek and obedient you follow the leader" is a key part of sheep that shows this. |

Can't be done. Speaking of you listening to More a lot, how do you like Cirrus Minor? I think it's a truly awesome song. It's got those cool floating organ sounds, and when the heavy reverb comes in on the vocals it sounds reeeally cool. |
If you listen closely to the lyrics, they seem to follow these allegories. Also, one of the biggest give-aways ifs the factory on the front cover, which is actually a factory in England, which is still standing somewhere. EDIT: 'Nuff said :) |
It's really more about English Capitalism than directly taken from Animal Farm. It does borrow some things though.
|
The album Animals is more related to the book "Animal Farm" by George Orwell which is about communism (more closely, the communism in the Soviet Union).

That suggests that the well-dressed secret policemen who stabs his contacts and is ruthless with suspects.
Can't be done. I still have to listen to a lot of the rest of the album, but at this point I know I really, really like Cirrus Minor. I'll be listening to More a lot in the next few days. |

Actually, when I heard that I instantly thought of just a middle-management white collar man in a boardroom or something, getting in good with his superiors so he can "stab them in the back" and get ahead. It's all metaphorical. |
Wow, no posts since mine 17 hours ago... w/e. Listened to some more Floyd today during study hall, that's about it. Can't think of anything else to add...
|
wow you guys ended up with a great name for the thread
Pigs: CEOs, big politicans, etc.
Dogs: The motivated white-collar man, willing to doing anything to get ahead Sheep: The masses of the stupid, unemployed, blue-collar, etc. That's how I see it.
I see it pretty similarly, although I thought it was more like: Dogs: Bussiness men, ruthless and exploiting, always hounding people, sort of like Wall Mart in a person (apears like a good thing, but underneath is destroying our society.) Pigs: The rulers, governers, CEO's, senators, ect. who seem to run things, but are no better than the sheep. Sheep: The huddled masses, always searching for a leader, not knowing about anything, constantly exploited by the dogs. I really think Animals has the best concept for any album I've heard. It may edge Wish You Were Here as my second favorite Floyd album. |
