It fades out with double bass...how is that falling apart? That song is so lethal.
 The one on my album fades out with a piano note, then some backwards singing. Maybe you're thinking of Master's Apprentices. |

No, the backwards singing is from The Master's Apprentices. I recorded it on my sound recorder windows XP so graciously let me have for free, then played it backwards. It's the first singing verse to The Master's Apprentices...''soothing trance...'' By The Pain I See In Others has a really nice outro, it's fast, heavy and full of double bass, then quickly fades out on tone. How is that fall apart? I don't get it at all. You should listen to the song again, By The Pain I See In Others. Maybe even record that last segment and play it backwards, then you will see the light. |
I just uploaded an older video of Demon Of The Fall live on myspace just before, and I figure so of you guys might be interested if you don't already have it. Post you email here and I'll send you the link if your interested.

Cheers very much dude. |
Yeah, I read that only three or so songs are part of the concept. That was really disappointing to me. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
Nice. |

I really love ByThe Pain I See In Others.
esp. the creepy piano interlude, it's so creepy and carnival-esque the backwards singing sounds very cool, only the minute silence surrounding it sucks :( |

A little late on this, but sounds good: saydstrings@gmail.com |
I've been learning a lot of the songs on guitar lately....some easy, some very difficult. As noted, Benighted is pretty tough....the precision is difficult at that speed, but the real difficulty is singing + playing it. Same with Patterns in the Ivy II, beautiful picking that can be learned but trying to sing it, it becomes impossible. Have had much trouble with Face of Melinda as well.
Others are just too multitracked to duplicate.....I'm a huge fan of the loud riffs in Dirge for November, but they're just layered octaves that cannot be done singlehandedly. And the ending riff of Moonlapse Vertigo, same thing.....too layered to duplicate on one guitar. |
Mmmm...Demon Of The Fall video.

Yeah, I remember you telling me that earlier in this thread. :) The problem as I see it is that it has these disjointed riffs and licks, that don't flow together at all.. I can see how you could like it, with its insane feel and whatnot, but the somewhat random nature of the section turns me off. |
<---- Is seeing Opeth+Nevermore tomorrow.
Can't fucking wait. |

Are you talking about the song itself? Or the backwards singing? If you're talking about the song: Explain to me what a disjointed riff is. If you're talking about the backwards singing, please stop arguing this conversation and just listen to that segment backwards. I used to dislike that segment also, until I heard what it really is. It's pretty cool. So if you have about 5 minutes, a mic and windows sound recorder, you can check it out. :D Just record the singing and play it reversed, it's simple. |
<---- Is seeing Opeth+Nevermore tomorrow.
Can't fucking wait.
You lucky bastard. :( I would kill to see that show. They're playing at a venue 30 minutes north of me but I have to miss it. |
I wish Opeth and Nevermore would tour the UK together. :( For that matter, I wish that Opeth would play a decent sized venue next time they hit London, rather than The Forum. They could easily sell out a bigger venue than that, so I'm not quite sure why they haven't upgraded yet. I don't think I could go anyway, but it's still pretty annoying...it's all very well playing small venues in the US, as they play so many dates there, but it would be nice if they played bigger venues on their infrequent visits here.
I'm going to a pretty small venue, but that's alright with me because the ticket was only $15, something I can afford on my currently tight fundage. |
I've recently been indulging in more Damnation than I've recently allowed myself, and I must say, I'm quite impressed. Hope Leaves has that great catchy chorus bit. Ahhhh, good stuff.

I am going to try that, btw. Also I have recently discovered the true greatness about Benighted. Listen to it while taking a walk on a clear night. Sounds cheesy, but it is the most calming thing I have ever done. |

Thats probably my favorite off of the album.. but all the songs are great, but the one that doesn't really grab me is Death Whispered a Lullaby... don't know why.. it kinda bugs me. |

That's the only one off the album that I don't really fancy either. Can't put my finger on it... |

Listen to the backwards singing in reverse, yea, You'll love it. Oh, one more thing...don't ever say that word in this thread again when it deals with Opeth, unless it has something to do with the concept of Ghost Reveries. ...then it's okay. |

Hope Leaves is my second favorite song off of there. First is Windowpane. I absolutely LOVE that song...probably in my top 3 Opeth songs. I can't get into In My Time Of Need though...I just hate the verse riff so much. The chorus is good, but the rest is...just not doing it for me. |

To Rid The Disease is my favorite on that album. Vocal harmonies in chorus =
