I heard awesome things about The Killing Joke. Man I've been out of the comic/graphic novel circle for a whiiiile.
The Killing Joke is great.

I'm reading the very last book of Y the Last Man. One of the most entertaining comics I've read. I need another short series like this.

He's talking out of his abused sphincter again.

TimJim 06-12-2011 09:41 PM

downloaded 8 movies yesterday, now to actually bother to watch them instead of download music and play tf2/eve

Haz 06-12-2011 09:42 PM

you probably watched it dubbed Austin, it's sort of hard to judge the voice acting of the overall package that way. english dubs tend to be atrocious. but the animation was superb idk how anyone can deny it was an ambitious task which they pulled off well, even the story lets it down for the reasons blockhead specified

looking for artistic ambition in anime when you rate black and white avant-garde asian art movies 10/10 on the regular seems kind of silly

2muchket! 06-12-2011 09:46 PM

I'm keen to give the Akira manga a try actually.

Might re-watch monster actually, now that was an amazingly enthralling series, would recommend it to anyone.

TimJim 06-12-2011 09:51 PM

Ponyo and Pokemon are p much the only anime things ive ever watched

oh and Zoids i fucking loved zoids

BoboTheRagingHobo 06-12-2011 10:00 PM

TimJim 06-12-2011 10:03 PM

BoboTheRagingHobo 06-12-2011 10:04 PM

shortz 06-12-2011 10:05 PM

Evenin' peeps, how 'bout that bball game eh?

(not sure if anyone is on that watched it..)

lukeskywalkertakingadump 06-12-2011 10:13 PM
No I got the storyline to it, the animation, the acting and the overall "oh look how convoluted we can be"-pretension were just terrible and not doing any justice to any sort of artistic ambition they seemed to want to pull off.
The animation was great for 1989 what are you talking about?

And by "acting" do you mean the English Dub or the original Japanese? If you're going by the dubbed version then wow, you're a dumbass.

Akira isn't pretentious, it's just a really intricate story that doesn't translate well to film.

And the anime is bad story wise, don't judge the manga by the anime. Like I said they tried to cram a really long, intricate, involved story into a two hour movie and it doesnt' work. Don't act like you know all about it because you saw the sub par movie adaption.

"GOD DAMN IT!"

LeBron fiercely slammed his locker door shut. Tears were streaming down his cheeks like the bricks streaming from his hands during the game. Faint chants of "LeBeta" and "LeBrick" and "LeChoke" were ringing in his ears. He hadn't felt this bad since he walked in on his mom and Delonte West.

"Don't worry Bron, we'll get 'em next year."

Dwayne Wade soft hand stroking LeBron's arm was a small comfort. Dwayne had been LeBron's shoulder to cry on the entire series, and the only thing that kept him stable through the first five games.

"Shower down boys, and take your time. We have long set of interviews set up." The dissapointment in Erik's voice sent shivers down LeBron's spine. He had let his coach down.

Maybe it was the stress of the Finals or the strong feeling of being beta, but LeBron couldn't stop glancing at his teammates Dwayne and Chris as they were lathering themselves, heads held low. He had felt so close to them throughout the season. Dwayne could see LeBron's quick glances through the corner of his eye. He paused for a moment before slowly walking over. Dwayne caressed LeBron's cheek, wiping a few errant tears away.

"Don't worry LeBron, you don't need a stupid ring to be happy."

Chris Bosh, feeling the sexual tension, bent over and looked back with his ostrich-like neck, stretching his anus wide...

"Hey LeBron, I got a hole you can put your finger in..."

lol people who judge anime by the english dubs are so fucking ignorant it's unbelievable. It's like those people that think they know about Dragonball (the whole series is called dragon ball, Z is an arbitrary qualifier for the second half added to the anime) when they have seen the fucking Cartoon Network Version. The real uncut Dragonball is totally different. The voice acting is 10x better, it has much better music and not that corny Nu-Metal shit, there's cursing, nudity and wayyy more violence.

The dialog is so much different in the edited version. They call it "another dimension" instead of "hell." They call Mr Satan "Hercule." And they call God "Kami" and Heaven "Kami's Palace." Kami is the japanese word for god any way I don't know why they didn't just call him God like they do in the manga. People also vomit blood and shit. There are a ton of sexual references and religous references that get cut out of the CN version and every thing in general is toned down so much. The Cartoon Network version is an almost completely different and much gayer show.

People who judge anime by the Americanized, dubbed and edited versions are really ignorant. Art should be judged by its original version, not the bastardization of it.

malcolm almost never comes up with any of his material himself.

all his posts are either really boring shit about his life or something he copied and pasted from somewhere else

lukeskywalkertakingadump 06-12-2011 10:39 PM

I would be willing to bet $1,000,000 that malcolm got that from /sp/

and haz I'll check that out man. You have pretty good taste. My favorite anime is Neon Genesis Evangelion but I like Trigun, dragonball and Ranma 1/2. Akira is my fav manga easily.

Haz I think Ranma 1/2 would be right up your alley. It's about a father and son who are martial artists and while out on a training mission at an ancient Chinese spring they each fell into a cursed lake. Ranma fell into the cursed lake of a drowned girl while his father fell into the cursed lake of a drowned panda. Now when Ranma gets splashed with cold water he turns into a young girl version of himself and his father turns into a Giant Panda (a really cute one ^_^.) Warm water changes them back. They go to live with Ranma's father's best friend and his family. The fathers have planned a marriage for Ranma and the best friends' youngest daughter. They don't get along though and hilarity ensues.

no i watched it in the original form. i saw the english cast and lol'd.

if you go about pretending that a movie you're making is ambitious and it turns to be just a flimsy facade i'm going to call you on it.

Haz 06-12-2011 10:44 PM

well, I prefer the comedy animes over action stuff and mecha. Fist of The North Star and Cowboy Bebop are probably my favourite serious ones though

i've watched more series than I would like to admit, haven't seen Ranma 1/2 though.
