the whole thing is rather strange. the god of the old testament, which is what they had at the time, is a mean *** mother ****er. not too nice of a guy. wonder why his son was so much nicer.
He was only mean when the Israelites disobeyed him. The rest of the time he was nice to them. Their enemies on the other hand were in for some trouble.

I went to go try a little riff that I thought up, and ended up playing for half an hour.

Hey, what kind of thing do you have to keep in mind for playing upright when it comes to technique?

My jazz band teacher wants me to play upright, so I'm gonna rent one of the schools basses and get lessons mostly for technique, but was just curious about what TECHNIQUE things I need to keep in mind.

I don't want more tendonitis/RSI/CT than I already have.

Spaceman Spiff 11-12-2006 11:46 PM

In my country there is problem
And that problem is transport
It takes very very long
Because Kazakhstan is big

Throw the transport down the well
So my country can be free
We must make travel easy
Then we have a big party

In my coutnry there is problem
And that problem is the Jew
He takes everybody's money
And never gives it back

Throw the Jew down the well
So my country can be free
You must grab him by his horns
Then we have a big party

If you see the Jew coming
You must be careful of his teeth
You must grab him by his money
And I tell you what to do

Throw the Jew down the well
So my country can be free
You must grab him by his horns
Then we have a big party

Best. Song. Ever.

Fretting technique is the most important. Hey ted, who is the best guitarist?

lowsound
That's really hard to say...I've been listening to a lot of hiphop lately so I'm kinda out of the loop.

Rock:
One of the best guitarists in MY opinion is John Frusciante. I really hated By The Way, but that man is so versatile...

Jazz:
McLaughlin is pretty crazay, and I have a special place in my heart for Django.

Wanking:
I love me some Petrucci and Satriani, I guess. Too bad Petrucci can't improv.

All around:
My band's guitarist. The kid is what Zakk Wylde would sound like if he worked for Motown, and it just so happened that he was ****ing amazing at classical piano.

I'm biased, though. Too much Kool Keith and Big Daddy Kane lately...

I was so sure that you were going to say buckethead, or are you off that big buckethead kick? I am on a huge one right now and my playing is starting to sound like his.

I used to hate By The Way also, but I listened to it quite a bit over the summer and found that it's actually very good.

I can't believe I forgot about Buckethead.

I hate myself so much.

I've found a really Buckethead sounding riff for my muzak recording class at school (no joke). When we record it, I'll definitely send it your way.

Sweet, I love his playing, but I have no plans to buy a white LP. I like my tremolo to much, whammy bombs FTW. Did you ever get that white LP and start playing guitar? Man I haven't talked to you in AGES.

Naw dude, stuff keeps coming up. Maybe for Christmas/Birthday. Who knows?

I probably won't get it anytime soon, because I'd only like to play with cred card and the creditors are so freakin' annoying. They called today and yelled at my mom despite her telling them we paid yesterday. Silly creditors.

Now, I'm super excited about upright, so the guitardedness probably won't happen anytime soon, though I'd love me some effects.

How're things going for you?

Foxfire 11-13-2006 12:14 AM

I'm going to bed, but I'll be sure to hang around here more often (I hope I mean it this time).

See ya later buddy.

thelowsoundofbass 11-13-2006 12:18 AM

See ya ted, I am doing good. I'll give you the update next time we talk, bed is a good thing.

Win A Rabbit 11-13-2006 02:14 AM

Hey guys I've got a couple quick questions.

I played bass a couple years ago, and ended up trading instruments with my band's drummer. I started playing guitar right after, but I'm looking to get into playing bass again.

I'm left handed, so there's basically no left handed basses for me to try out at the stores here. So I'm thinking of going to the shops, trying out a couple right-handed basses upside down, figuring out what I want, and then most likely ordering through the internet.

I'm looking for a 5-string (BEADG) left handed bass. Slap/pop and fingerpicking, if that makes a difference. I'm looking for a nice "funk" sounding bass.

I'm not looking to spend a whole bunch of money, but I don't want to buy a POS.

And also, I hate to ask, but do any of you know about this http://www.music123.com/Fullerton-Ventura-5-Left-Handed---Bass-Guitar-i291079.music bass? I know that generally, buying cheap means buying twice, but I'm not looking for top quality, just something that'll get me by until I decide which (guitar, drums, bass) I want to most pursue.

funkyhoney 11-13-2006 03:14 AM

so... today i found out that my schools other bitch-of-a bass player payed me out because i defretted my own bass and it was "cheap".

pretty sure i don't wanna go out and spend a grand on something i don't even know if i like without even playing one.

anyway, anyone here?

oh and rabbit dude.
i'd say just go try out righty's, find one that has a sound you like, and a feel you like right handed. and then order lefty.

pretty sure someone who doesn't even own a bass and uses the schools **** insulting me is a bit rich considering i own 4 basses and my own amp.
