DBoons Ghost 09-06-2005 04:02 PM

Each of Floyd's albums have a unique quality which forces me to listen to it as if it were it's own.

So, I tend to not go back and compare song for song off Animals with song for song off Meddle for example. Floyd aint like that.

Waiting for the Worms tells it's story just as any other song would, and the lyrics are fairly significant.
Waiting for the Worms tells it's story just as any other song would, and the lyrics are fairly significant.
which may be true, but the music sucks

Lunch 09-06-2005 04:20 PM

Waiting for the Worms is a great song IMO.

And why does an album have to be a "collection of songs"? Why can't it be viewed as a story like a book or movie can be? Certianly the Wall should only be analyzed from that standpoint. To enjoy the album you have to buy into the plot, because the music itself doesn't hold up. However, what makes it a great record is that there is a plot and an overall theme which makes up for any musical inconsistencies. If you view the Wall as just 26 songs put on a double album, of course there is nothing to like about it. That's why you need to view it as a single entity.

moaner 09-06-2005 04:22 PM

I'd say the wall was very consistent, albeit consistantly dull.

I can't even bear to listen to the final cut, ro momentary lapse of reason.
MEDDLE, NUCCA :smash:
Yeah, Meddle's great.

moaner 09-06-2005 04:25 PM
I just don't see the fuss about Echoes really. Sure, it's a good song, but it's not the best on Meddle in my humble opinion (I rather like Saint Tropez), and compared to their other epics it does lack something. Dogs is an extraordinary song though. Lyrically that album has Waters at his best I always think, as the nastiness that's in quite a lot of Floyd's music comes out better in it without ever going over the top.
Dogs just doesn't keep me fully intrested- its just santana style solo after solo. I feel that echoes allows the full band to shine, and off the top of my head i can't think of anything i would change about it.
I got animals this weekend and its quickly becoming my favorite floyd cd. I love it. Which cd should I get next though. Ive got animals, DSOTM, WYWH, the wall, and PATGOD.
Saucerful of Secrets and Meddle for sure. Animals is my least favourite 70's Floyd album.

Yeah, I don't like Animals. What do people find so appealing about it?

Lunch 09-06-2005 04:33 PM

The musical ownage from WYWH mixed with the strong negative lyrics from the Wall (though Animals isn't as strong musically as WYWH).

Except, the music itself does hold up.

SOYCD would have been much more musical ownage, had there been 1 less guitar solo before the verses. It's an early form of wankage.

So there was a rumor in the halls today that Pink Floyd was going to play at the React concert (or whatever its called) to benefit the New orleans flood.

I knew it was bullshit from the get-go, but I still had one small teeny weeny hope that Floyd would play just one last concert...

I love animals. I don't know, I just think it's really great. The solos are so incredible, and even though the songs are really long, they don't seem to drag on at all.

NP: Dogs

It's the kind of thing Floyd would play for. But I would guess mostly American bands would play. Being British, the hurricane doesn't affect them nearly as much as it would if they were American.

DeusExMachina 09-06-2005 05:28 PM

I would love for Pink Floyd to play it. But I don't think they will.

WheepingGuitar39 09-06-2005 05:35 PM

They wont.

BigTrav415 09-06-2005 05:37 PM

Oye, man am I tired. Hmm, I guess I should say something relating to Floyd... umm... hmm... let's see... er, Floyd is good. Yeah. Let's see... you were discussing the Wall... awesome album, if very depressing... Disc 2 > Disc 1, and 1st half of Disc 2 > 2nd half of Disc 2... Hey You, Is There Anybody Out There, Nobody Home, and Vera are all beautiful songs, and flow together perfectly with the background TV noise... Bring The Boys Back Home just doesn't do it for me though...Animals, uhh, probably my fourth favorite Floyd Album (IMO, Meddle>DSotM>WYWH>Animals>The Wall), but since those albums are my top 5 albums of all time from any band, that's still saying a lot... Sheep is probably my favorite song on there, mostly because of the great bassline, the lyrics, and the amazing outro... I must have mentioned that outro riff like four times on here by now... Oh, here's a new topic point, I think San Tropez sounds very much like a Beatles song, don't you agree? Listen to it, you'll see what I mean... Well, that's another succesful post by the Travster... Peace, love, and Echoes...

Ok to clear up what that guy said.. jean chretien
musically inconsistent? are you on crack?
what is the inconsistency between Comfortably Numb and Waiting for the worms? Maybe you should explain yourself.

Comfortably Numb, apart from the 2 kick *** solos, aint much music there.
Waiting for the worms, has an AMAZING riff, and that song pumps you up with that riff, and poeple screaming HAMMER HAMMER HAMMER, but no kick *** solo. So I guess they are even, one of them a really good riff, the other a really good solo. How is that inconsistent?

Next time please backup what you say.

I kind of agree about Paul McCartney, he kind of pisses me off, sort of a elitist, especially money-wise. Just like Waters...

I truly find it below every other Pink Floyd album musically, but I agree the lyrics are very good.

I would love to see Neil Young.

(especially live.. W O W)
