Don't worry, it's a crappy band name.

Stormrider 11-09-2007 02:29 PM
But as of the current moment I have no knowledge of Neolithic's sound at all and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they were worth my time, or maybe give some insight on their general sound.
After a 5 second look on Metal Archives, I noticed they have a myspace...
Nihility is great, alot of people don't agree though.
I agree bb. :-*

Toaster 11-09-2007 03:07 PM

The bass drum (trigger) on Nihility is way too loud. Pretty good album though.

i am the robots 11-09-2007 03:09 PM

That's true, I still love it though.

LifeInABox 11-09-2007 03:50 PM

It's not bad it's just not anything near WoC and their albums just went downhill from there.

RiceMonster 11-09-2007 04:08 PM
A+B. both false. I only "namedrop" bands not in an attempt to look cool or elite, or because I'm impressionable, I'm merely seeking a recommendation. ie Neolithic yesterday, and if there was a review posted for it on MA i wouldn't have asked at all. But as of the current moment I have no knowledge of Neolithic's sound at all and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they were worth my time, or maybe give some insight on their general sound.
Dude, it's so ****ing hard to download a couple of songs, visit the bands myspace, or offical page or whatever. I don't know how people do it man. I can never figure out what a band sounds like unless I have someone describe them to me.

Tyler 11-09-2007 04:29 PM

I'm sorry, rattle. I realize now that, if it wasnt for you, I would never have known about the underrated and obscure; bands like Nocturnus, Monstrosity and a guitarist you call "Loomis" would go unnoticed. Furthermore, as a result of your amicable digging skills, I've become aware of an otherwise unknown release within the scene; yes, it would seem that you are in fact the first person to know of Carnage.

Seriously though, you're kind of an impressionable little shit; your post just validated anything I said.

You said that no, you don't arbitrarily name-drop to make yourself look better and your argument was that you arbitrarily name-drop things you think no one has ever heard of, regardless of them being highly regarded (and highly discussed).

You said that you don't rely on the opinions of others only to say that you were looking for a yay/nay on whether to look into a band.

I mean, yeah sometimes it's okay to ask if a band is worth looking into further than what little you've heard, but you essentially just blindly name bands out. You don't say whether you want to discuss them, or whether you're looking for a recommendation. You just, as I said, arbitrarily name bands.
Why do you think I said Skeletonwitch? I wasnt just name-dropping, they're about the most recent album Ive bought and Ive been really happy about it.

So how bout you check 'em out instead of assuming I just throw names out there for the hell of it :thumb:
Actually, you just kind of arbitrarily mentioned them. You, as I said, just namedropped a band. You didnt mention anything about them. So, yeah, you pretty much did just throw a name out there for the hell of it.

i am the robots 11-09-2007 04:37 PM

Anyway Tyler, you asked for new death metal, if you haven't checked these out yet, I suggest you check out Famine by From Graves Of Valor and Wastelands by Hacksaw To The Throat... I could probably upload that, the guy who runs Dead By Dawn Recordings sent it to me and the band broke up, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

Tyler 11-09-2007 04:39 PM

I've heard some FGOV and it was not my thing. I'll check out some Hacksaw though.

Also I'll look into what Jondur posted.

i am the robots 11-09-2007 04:40 PM

Hacksaw = melodic/tech stuff. Really good vocalwork, but mostly instrumental.

Eliminator 11-09-2007 04:42 PM

Famine is good stuff

ATM 11-09-2007 04:42 PM

I was skeptical about Famine because ENC was whoring it.

Tyler 11-09-2007 04:43 PM

Famine is just an EP, fine, I'll give it another shot. I'm also going to look into the new BDM.

i am the robots 11-09-2007 04:43 PM

That's just because FGOV plays shows in his area a lot, they're actually really good.

The new BDM is probably their best one.

masscows 11-09-2007 04:51 PM

FGOV isn't that good.

i am the robots 11-09-2007 04:55 PM

FGOV is ballin.

Damon's vocals are mad weird.

so when i actually defend myself, you twist it into looking like i think I'm the only one that knows about those four bands. No, but I love the albums i mentioned and no one wants to discuss them.
And I had no idea Neolithic had a myspace, and they only have one CD i'm interested in anyway, called For Destroy the Lament. I mentioned the CD yesterday, so it's not like i just randomly made a post that said "hey guys, Neolithic." So I'll check out their myspace, but i think they are one of those bands where their sound changed dramatically over their career, which is one disadvantage of band myspaces- you're at the mercy of whoever posts the songs.

Tyler 11-09-2007 05:04 PM
No, but I love the albums i mentioned and no one wants to discuss
So start a discussion rather than just randomly naming them.

And maybe people don't want to discuss them because they've been discussed to death already.

rattlehead42147 11-09-2007 05:13 PM
And maybe people don't want to discuss them because they've been discussed to death already.
well obviously not if i've never seen anyone talk about them.
Anyway Carnage has Michael Amott and sounds a lot like Entombed but I think they are much better. Dark Recollections is easily one of the best overlooked Swedish death metal albums.

The Neolithic mypace was enough for me to determine they kind of suck.

Eliminator 11-09-2007 05:15 PM

dark recollections doesn't seem to be overlooked at all.

rattlehead42147 11-09-2007 05:16 PM

in comparison to bands like Entombed and Dismember, it goes pretty unnoticed.

Tyler 11-09-2007 05:17 PM

That's because those bands put out more than one actual album.

rattlehead42147 11-09-2007 05:19 PM

Dark Recollections is better than anything I've heard by both of those bands.

Eliminator 11-09-2007 05:19 PM

entombed would've been so much better if it weren't for the vocals. its somewhere in between a half-assed growl and hardcore-ish yell that doesn't mix well with the music

Tyler 11-09-2007 05:20 PM
entombed would've been so much better if it weren't for the vocals.
And the fact that most of their albums are bad.

AA-12 11-09-2007 05:21 PM

Carnage is awesome. Not better than Dismember but awesomeawesomeawesome.

TojesDolan 11-09-2007 05:24 PM

I'm digging Vomitory.

masscows 11-09-2007 05:26 PM
I'm digging Vomitory.
What I've heard from them is great. Which album do you have?

TojesDolan 11-09-2007 05:27 PM

Redemption and Raped in their Own Blood.

masscows 11-09-2007 05:28 PM

Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize is on my list atm. Out of those two, which one is better?

TojesDolan 11-09-2007 05:30 PM

Redemption has some standard "growl double bass intro > slower riff > cool bridge" moments, but it has some outstanding parts and it rolls nicely here and there, but it's better mixed than RitOB. I prefer the latter idk I have to listen to both more thoroughly.

Slapping Penguin 11-09-2007 05:30 PM

Yeah...well I like heard these sick wicked bands the other day like, Flubbergore, Imperial Lectern, Unattached Limb and Plezsoneopalalicthica.

I only have Left Hand Path and that is awesome. I typed Entombed into Youtube and heard some of their other songs...I wetted myself at the sheer crapness. Type in Eye for an Eye and listen to this funny Pseudo-tough guy Slayer thing Entombed had going.

PS: Did I sound like Rattle?

rattlehead42147 11-09-2007 05:33 PM
Carnage is awesome. Not better than Dismember but awesomeawesomeawesome.
yeah, i think Dismember is kind of overrated personally. I love MKC and LAEFS but that's about it.

Tyler 11-09-2007 05:34 PM

Dismember is brilliant, go away.

rattlehead42147 11-09-2007 05:35 PM

of course, but still I think they are the worst of the 3.

does anyone like Unleashed's Where No Life Dwells? i downloaded it a long time ago
and thought it was pretty average compared to those other three bands. almost no solos and no memorable riffs. Does Unleashed have any better material perhaps?

masscows 11-09-2007 05:36 PM
Redemption has some standard "growl double bass intro > slower riff > cool bridge" moments, but it has some outstanding parts and it rolls nicely here and there, but it's better mixed than RitOB. I prefer the latter idk I have to listen to both more thoroughly.
I'll look up some reviews and decide which to pick up. They're great fun, I'm blasting their myspace tracks atm.
I only have Left Hand Path and that is awesome. It just seems like they put 0 thought into most of it aside from the title track. I strongly prefer Dismember for oldschool Swedish death metal tbh.

AA-12 11-09-2007 05:37 PM
Dismember is brilliant, go away.
Dammit Tyler, why don't you just change your name to Cocaine (Josh's Opinions) and save me the trouble of saying "this"

Tyler 11-09-2007 05:39 PM

Because we used to disagree on everything and you never know.

AA-12 11-09-2007 05:41 PM

Haha, I remember that. Basically every thread we were arguing.
