More than 75% of the times Neeshee intends to type "rofl," he types "rolf."

Most internet acronyms are pretty lame.

Most besides "Rofl" and "stfu"

Gtfo is OK but rofl and stfu are cool.
tbqh just pisses me off. -Gav |
Now, whenever i have kids, i can tell them how their pops was alive back when it was called 'The Emo/Screamo Community Thread'.
|
Neeshee, I love you with all my heart but stop being a bitch about using screamo. It's a perfectly fine term that helps for the more specific classification of bands within the genre. If you can jock Midwest emo, you should have no problem with screamo. The thread was fine they way it was.
|
I don't really care, but I can hear a difference between stuff like Olive Tree and Off Minor...but that's just me. It's all good music either way. :thumb:
The name matters because if we keep it as "Emo/Screamo", people would still use the term "screamo", and if people keep using the term "screamo", the wrath of the brown will be felt.
(Thanks to whoever changed the name <3)
You're welcome. I started doing the changing of the punk community thread name becuase "The Community Thread" got really boring after 2-3 years. |

Someone used that argument with him before and he schooled them hard. I expect it will happen again. |
I say who cares...it's all emo to me. :thumb:
/waits for Neeshee -Gav |
Someone used that argument with him before and he schooled them hard. I expect it will happen again.
Bring it on, I say. |
They did that before. They changed it to a few City of Caterpillar songs which I think isn't necessary. "Emo Community Thread" is just fine.
I remember that. I'm just saying the name doens't matter, we still talk about the same jack. So I don't really care what we use as the name. But screamo is a subgenre or whatever within emo, so we don't need to say screamo when this thread applies to all emo anyway. |
So how 'bout that dang blasted emo music?
So how 'bout that dang blasted emo music?
-Gav
Heey Gav..I don't wanna' be bashed :) so I'm gonna' ask ya straight up..Are Taking Back Sunday and like Thursday and those sort of bands Emo? Or what are they? |
Heey Gav..I don't wanna' be bashed :) so I'm gonna' ask ya straight up..Are Taking Back Sunday and like Thursday and those sort of bands Emo? Or what are they?
No, I say they are pop-punk. |
Well..It's just they don't really fit under the real idea of Pop-Punk..Which is more like Blink, MxPx and that kinda' stuff imo. Thats why I asked lol...
|
Heey Gav..I don't wanna' be bashed :) so I'm gonna' ask ya straight up..Are Taking Back Sunday and like Thursday and those sort of bands Emo? Or what are they?
Not at all are they emo. Thursday would be post-hardcore. Taking Back Sunday are pop-punk. |
Taking Back Sunday is pop-punk.
Thursday isn't really straight pop-punk...I see some indie and some post-hardcoreish stuff in there. They're tough to classify. A lot of us here like them but they're not really emo nor hardcore. :p -Gav |
I used to like Thursday, haven't listened in a long time. I'll be completely honest, I don't think I've ever heard a Taking Back Sunday song besides their cover on the Tony Hawk soundtrack.
|

Thursday are preemo, but they are a post-hardcore band who have connections to the emo scene. Taking Back Sunday are pop rock. Straight up. |
Well..It's just they don't really fit under the real idea of Pop-Punk..Which is more like Blink, MxPx and that kinda' stuff imo. Thats why I asked lol...
Pop-punk, like all genres of music, can come in many different flavors. And especially if there is a gap of time between the bands and if there is a time of progression. Blink and MxPx are a little older, so they will have a different sound than today's pop-punk of TBS, Fall Out Boy, etc. |
Thursday are preemo...
What is preemo? I've never heard that term before. |
preemo = awesome, top notch, etc.
|
Like "primo," but it's spelled preemo and pronounced the same way. :D
-Gav |
preemo = awesome, top notch, etc.
I always thought it was spelled primo. Preemo looks like pre-emo. I got confused too. |
Well I guess I just misspelled. Whatever.
|
Doofus.
|
Bahahahaha, nice...nice.
ROFL DOFUS! I haven't heard that since like 7th grade...sick. I'm going to start using that again. -Gav |

Chris, first of all I am not "bitching", I was only suggesting that we remove the term "screamo" from the name of this thread because it is NOT a genre as I have stated and proved on various glorious occasions. I'm going to find my old post and just re-post it here cause it explains everything. But as to your "midwest emo" argument, well it just fails. Midwest emo is not a genre, it is more of a description that refers to a couple of bands that have a similar sound that reign from the same region. It is not the name of a genre, it is just a reference. It's like referring to Antioch Arrow as a "gravity record" band, or as a "san diego emo band" or things of that sort. Screamo does not hold any sort of locational implications at all, it is only supposedly a genre. With that being said, i'm going to search for my old post. I'll update this post once Ash or someone finds my old post. |

A locational clarification is even worse than a term like "screamo" which refers to the description of music. It's like calling Thrice a Christian Band (too parrallel your "locational clarifications") as opposed to calling them metal/post-hardcore (which like screamo, describes their sound). |
Ok here's the update to my demolition of Chris. This is the old post that Ash so kindly found for me. <3
I think you what you mean is that screamo is the chaotic form of 90's emo, and the answer is no. Emo is a constantly evolving genre, even today you can't say there is a specific sound to it. We have bands like Ampere, and Hot Cross, and Gospel who all sound soo different, but are still considered to be a part of the same scene and genre. Similarly there were a few bands who took on a more chaotic approach in the scene, and for some reason we have decided to call that "screamo" and any band that exists during and after these chaotic bands are also labeled "screamo", and then "screamo" is viewed as the new "emo". This is false. Emo changes, that doesn't constitute a new genre, its mostly an innovative genre so to make subgenres from "emo" would be absolutely ridiculous and unecessarily time consuming. So there was some bands who took on a more screamy-chaotic approach, big deal. So there are bands now that take on a more technical approach, do they need a genre? We have bands that like to use viola or violin in songs, does that mean we need a subgenre for them too? As you can see..its just utterly ridiculous. EDIT: Chrisitanity is not a place of origin and consequently not a location. It is a religion. Therefore calling Thrice a Christian band doesn't describe their location or music, so thats just completely irrelevant. |
