Hey, this song is AMAZING
Fixd :D |
Hey, this song is pretty good.
It almost makes up for the fact that I have to write a report for religion class. :(
Wow, I'm doing a report for religion class right now. We have to research different religions, my groups doing Scientology. |

Religion class would be my least favorite thing about going to a religiously-based school everything else I don't mind. I have to research a lost book that was rejected from the bible. Not too interesting.
Fixd :D
Hahaha, yep, it still doesn't rival my favorite song on the album though. |

Let me guess.... When? |
Let me guess.... When?
Demon of the Fall of course. |
who here likes serenity painted death? It has some of the best riffs I've heard opeth do. The intro just pulls me in and never lets me go until the end of the song witht he abrupt ending.
|

ah, yes... me too |
I love you guys. :(
|
Demon of the fall has to be a classic example of contrasting styles. It starts as one of the most brutal things commited to tape -- that growl, and then ends with run away, run away, just one second.... in clean vox.
I'd probably take When over it. |

That pinch harmonic in the riff = greatest use of PH ever. |

yeah the pinch harmonics in this part* white face, haggard grin, serenity painted death * are killer. |
I really like when the pinch is used a little in BWP at 1:27 in that little lead riff. Thats cool to.

Can anyone tell me whether Ghost Reveries is a concept album, and what the concept is?
Can anyone tell me whether Ghost Reveries is a concept album, and what the concept is?
We've disputed this and there are differing opinions, but I believe it is. Isolation Years isn't part of the concept though. |

Yeah, I read that only three or so songs are part of the concept. That was really disappointing to me. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. |

Sorry for not getting in the discussion earlier, but what fingerpicking Opeth parts do you guys find particularly tricky? I haven't had much trouble with any parts I try recently.
But I do like to do the fingerpicking on my guitar. :D |
I find that part in The Moor kinda hard, but I'm not that good at finger picking myself.

If one song isn't a part of it, it rules out any chance for a Concept. Period. Two songs from an album could run together, but the rest could be about something totally different, which in this case, the album is not a concept. The entire album from beginning to end has to be one story period. Sadly, Ghost Reveries is not one of those albums. |

But I do like to do the fingerpicking on my guitar. :D
I'm not a great fingerpicker, that might have something to do with it. I can play most of the parts, but they sound like crap compared to the precise articulation that Akerfeldt gets. Benighted is pretty complex, Patterns in the Ivy has some weird chords, and this isn't fingerpicking, but have you ever tried to play the odd 12-string part right after the intro in Closure? On a 12-string it's nearly impossible (for me). |

Oh yeah, I did give up on Benighted. So hard to get it right :upset: Also, 12 strings make me look like a bumbling idiot. I can't even tune them properly. |

Which one? Because the main one starting around 1:40-1:50 is with 2 guitars, one picking E minor or something and the other doing the one-note melody. |
I ment the part around 8:20 min in. That part is incredible, IMO. The way his voice fits in with the guitar is just awesome..

Yeah, thats a great part, and the humming is awesome. I'd probably take the acoustic part in The Leper Affinity over it though, maybe... i've been listening to TLA a lot recently. |
Really? I like that part in TLA, but its really basic and, IMO, doesn't compare to that part in The Moor. :D Maybe give The Moor another listen. :p

Hah trust me, I've given The Moor many, many listens. Overall as a whole song I'd probably take it over TLA, just by a hair. though I've been really enjoing BWP lately. But if you compare it track-by-track to Still Life, Still Life is a bit superior, IMO. You just can't beat Face of Melinda. |
You just can't beat Face of Melinda.
Agreed. |
