where i do start to get into this arist?
The Fame is awesome seriously, I must have listened to it 100 times by now |
so do you want good hip-hop or do you want stuff like MC Chris and Busdriver? Oh and not that you can't ask here but there is a hip-hop forum with a pretty good collection of essentials and lists etc.
|
I diddn't realize until I went to the review site and saw it when I came back through, so yeah. My bad
|
none of the hip hop you listed is good
just get binary star's masters of the universe, listen to it a few times, and then decide if you really think mc chris is cool |
Alrighty, I tend to listen to what people recommend and my friend is a big fan so yeah
|
i have never been able to get into that binary star album
sean sounds like you're looking for cracker rap, you'd probably like stuff by El-P (Fantastic Damage for a jumping off point closer to Aesop, his latest for something a bit different). You'd probably like Sage Francis (Personal Journals is aight) or Atmosphere (Lucy Ford EPs or Godlovesugly), too. But really you should just dive in. Don't let **** like 'gangster' labels hold you back. |
ugh i hate white people rapping
check out cunninlynguists. i think a white guy makes their beats. |
I need some good indie... with awesome artsy themes...
|
trying to impress girls i see
i'll hook you up with the best but you didn't hear about these from me Of Montreal Neutral Milk Hotel Belle and Sebastian those are my favorites. You also might like Clinic, Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, Blonde Redhead, Flaming Lips. And if you really want to get girls excited try Animal Collective and Decemberists. |

Bjork - Debut
|
every indie girl has to be utterly in love with Decemberists and Animal Collective. It's like a social law.
|
i like animal collective.
:-| |
I guess so... she loved tea and was kind of weird sometimes but she's fun to chill with.
|
you are an indie girl
|
did she burn incense
|
the kind with the dots on the forehead or the feathers in their hair
|
feathers on their forehead
|
lmao No just a weird girl... what about stuff with indie influences... like As Cities Burn and Brand New.
|
feathers in the foreskin you say
|

the devil and god are raging inside me is pretty much just an indie album |
how old are you silverfang? obviously young enough to worry about changing yourself for some dumb girl
you'll learn |
is it bad I consider myself too cool for the term indie and arrange bands into the actual subgenres they allegedly belong to
|
it makes almost no sense is what i consider it
|
like i've got no problem with the term as such but if a group plays shoegaze, psychedelic rock or post-punk revival stuff i'll lump them into a shoegaze, psychedelic rock or post-punk folder with other bands who seem to transcend indie to belong to those genres somehow even though back in the day they probably belonged to independent record labels so idk
|
90% of indie music can't be categorized as anything but generic indie
other 10% can be put into other categories |
what characterises generic indie though
|
acoustic guitars , boring melodies, girls like it.
I don't remember specifically because I haven't listened to stuff like this in a while. |
the only things i leave labeled as indie is pinback and similar sounding ****. everything else gets further classified.
yes, i have pinback |
Silversun Pickups
|
acoustic guitars , boring melodies, girls like it.
folk pop? |
there's a certain brand of it though that just screams indie rock in an indescribable way
|
indie rock seems to me to be just an umbrella terms for different shades of rock like noise rock or stoner rock
is it lo-fi production values that make it sound weedy which make it more indie I wonder |
Silversun Pickups
alternative rock |
stuff with indie influences... like As Cities Burn
wtf are you on also minus the bear or is she one of those brit indie girls if so then the Libertines, Albert Hammond Jr, The Smiths, Babyshambles, the Subways, **** like that |
