The Fame is awesome

seriously, I must have listened to it 100 times by now

Tyler 09-22-2009 08:43 PM

so do you want good hip-hop or do you want stuff like MC Chris and Busdriver? Oh and not that you can't ask here but there is a hip-hop forum with a pretty good collection of essentials and lists etc.

The Feeding 09-22-2009 08:44 PM

I diddn't realize until I went to the review site and saw it when I came back through, so yeah. My bad

Nepenthe 09-22-2009 08:46 PM

none of the hip hop you listed is good

just get binary star's masters of the universe, listen to it a few times, and then decide if you really think mc chris is cool

The Feeding 09-22-2009 08:51 PM

Alrighty, I tend to listen to what people recommend and my friend is a big fan so yeah

Tyler 09-22-2009 08:55 PM

i have never been able to get into that binary star album

sean sounds like you're looking for cracker rap, you'd probably like stuff by El-P (Fantastic Damage for a jumping off point closer to Aesop, his latest for something a bit different). You'd probably like Sage Francis (Personal Journals is aight) or Atmosphere (Lucy Ford EPs or Godlovesugly), too. But really you should just dive in. Don't let **** like 'gangster' labels hold you back.

Nepenthe 09-22-2009 08:57 PM

ugh i hate white people rapping

check out cunninlynguists. i think a white guy makes their beats.

Si1v3RfaNg 09-22-2009 09:59 PM

I need some good indie... with awesome artsy themes...

Jaundice 09-22-2009 10:04 PM

trying to impress girls i see

i'll hook you up with the best but you didn't hear about these from me
Of Montreal
Neutral Milk Hotel
Belle and Sebastian

those are my favorites. You also might like Clinic, Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, Blonde Redhead, Flaming Lips. And if you really want to get girls excited try Animal Collective and Decemberists.

The one girl I liked loved The Decemberists lol.

Meatplow 09-22-2009 10:05 PM

Bjork - Debut

Jaundice 09-22-2009 10:06 PM

every indie girl has to be utterly in love with Decemberists and Animal Collective. It's like a social law.

xMalcolmXx 09-22-2009 10:07 PM

i like animal collective.

:-|

Si1v3RfaNg 09-22-2009 10:08 PM

I guess so... she loved tea and was kind of weird sometimes but she's fun to chill with.

Iluvatar 09-22-2009 10:09 PM

you are an indie girl

Jaundice 09-22-2009 10:10 PM

did she burn incense

xMalcolmXx 09-22-2009 10:11 PM

the kind with the dots on the forehead or the feathers in their hair

Iluvatar 09-22-2009 10:12 PM

feathers on their forehead

Si1v3RfaNg 09-22-2009 10:13 PM

lmao No just a weird girl... what about stuff with indie influences... like As Cities Burn and Brand New.

xMalcolmXx 09-22-2009 10:15 PM

feathers in the foreskin you say

Iluvatar 09-22-2009 10:25 PM
lmao No just a weird girl... what about stuff with indie influences... like As Cities Burn and Brand New.
the devil and god are raging inside me is pretty much just an indie album

The Feeding 09-22-2009 10:29 PM

how old are you silverfang? obviously young enough to worry about changing yourself for some dumb girl

you'll learn

Meatplow 09-23-2009 01:13 AM

is it bad I consider myself too cool for the term indie and arrange bands into the actual subgenres they allegedly belong to

Iluvatar 09-23-2009 01:24 AM

it makes almost no sense is what i consider it

Meatplow 09-23-2009 01:31 AM

like i've got no problem with the term as such but if a group plays shoegaze, psychedelic rock or post-punk revival stuff i'll lump them into a shoegaze, psychedelic rock or post-punk folder with other bands who seem to transcend indie to belong to those genres somehow even though back in the day they probably belonged to independent record labels so idk

Jaundice 09-23-2009 01:32 AM

90% of indie music can't be categorized as anything but generic indie

other 10% can be put into other categories

Meatplow 09-23-2009 01:34 AM

what characterises generic indie though

Jaundice 09-23-2009 01:35 AM

acoustic guitars , boring melodies, girls like it.

I don't remember specifically because I haven't listened to stuff like this in a while.

Nepenthe 09-23-2009 01:35 AM

the only things i leave labeled as indie is pinback and similar sounding ****. everything else gets further classified.

yes, i have pinback

Jaundice 09-23-2009 01:36 AM

Silversun Pickups
acoustic guitars , boring melodies, girls like it.
folk pop?

Jaundice 09-23-2009 01:38 AM

there's a certain brand of it though that just screams indie rock in an indescribable way

Meatplow 09-23-2009 01:40 AM

indie rock seems to me to be just an umbrella terms for different shades of rock like noise rock or stoner rock

is it lo-fi production values that make it sound weedy which make it more indie I wonder

Tyler 09-23-2009 10:59 AM
Silversun Pickups
