^ hahah that made me laugh, good one.
Now I have a question for everyone: What do you think is Iron Maiden's most underrated song/s? I think there are two. The first is Purgatory off the Killers album. This is a good fun rocker with a cathcy chorus and the pre-chorus is also cool. I think it goes underated because most people think Killers is probably the worst album of Maiden's golden years and its far up in the track list on Killers. The second I think is Still Life off the Piece of Mind album. The album alone I think is quite underrated. Still Life is right after one of Maiden's best and most recognizable tracks: The Trooper. It's got a great verse and a really catchy chorus; almost as much as Flight of Icarus. It also contains an awesome solo (like most Maiden songs though). You don't have to write all that i did but im just wondering. |
I think The Prisoner is underrated. Great pre-chorus, and the bass is excellent as always.
|
Hey guys, sorry I've not been posting here in a while, problems with computer and such.
I bought NOTB recently, and have borrowed 7th son from a freind. I was completely blown away when I heard the whole thing all the way through, because there really isn't a song that is less than amazing on it. Has to overtake BNW as my favourite Maiden album, although not by much. On a side note, to Frail (or any other Maiden fans who listen to Rush), have you noticed that the guitar in the chorus of The Prisoner sounds identical to a bit of Spirit of Radio? |
^^
i will be sure to give that a listen lol. as for underated songs ill list some: Drifter Prodgial Son Total Eclipse Sun and Steel Flash of the Blade Caught somewhere time The Lonliness of the long distance runner The Assassin Mother Russia Wasting Love The Fallen Angel Montsegur |
^^I didn't really like Sun and Steel that much. I don't think I've ever had the chorus in my head, unlike practicaly every other Maiden song I own.
I can't say what songs are underrated, because I don't know much about their songs reputations (if that makes any sense). I will say that I love Children of the ****ed, and I've never really seen that refer to much on these boards or anywhere else. |
^^^
really? Sun and Steel's chorus is one of my favourites, but i wont hold it against you :thumb: , and yes Children of the ****ed is a genious track...yet i listed "total eclipse" are the unsung great from TNOTB album :), but that one hits home just as much! |
Murders in the Rue Mourge is a very underated one
|
The Appartion is really underrated. I think its awesome!
|
^^It must be, I've never heard of it...what album's it on?
(bumpage is fun) |
Murders in the Rue Mourge is a very underated one
are you kidding me? Thats one of the most hailed tracks from the Killers albums, a huge hit for the band. i woultnt call that an unknown favoutie. |
^ I have to agree with that.
I also agree with FrailandBedazzled1979, list about underrated songs. I some blaze songs are quite under-rated, like futureal, como estais amigos, don't look to the eyes of a stranger .etc. Ash |
Montségur is definitely NOT underrated. But eh.
Sea of Madness rules. |
I would have to say the live version of Fear of the Dark from Rock in Rio is definetly one of their most underrated songs. Listen to it. It's better than the studio version.
|
"anybody by any chance remember the Number of the beast album?"
"YEEEEEEAH" "Well, this song is not from that album! Enjoy!" Starts playing revelations.... |
Revelations = my fav. maiden song
Reach out = my favorite B side |
Montségur is definitely NOT underrated. But eh.
Sea of Madness rules.
Sea of Madness! Thats one of my favorite songs. I guess it's underated no one ever talks about it. |
Which Iron Maiden song is probably their heaviest? I haven't heard very many, but if it's not on the first two albums, it would probably be Powerslave. Heavy and Egyptian is a good combination.
|
The Wicker Man
Montsegur Fallen Angel Mercenary They are some of Maiden's heavier tracks |
i missed out on their concert when they came in august with motorhead, which kinda sucked. but their album "Powerslave", is it a good album? I havent really heard much from it
|

NILE!!!!!!!!!! hehe I'd say The Trooper and Montsegur. |
heaviest...id go with
The Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner Montsegur The Fallen Angel Killers Where Eagles Dare Moonchild The Assassin Mother Russia Fear is the Key |
Montsegur is a heavier one, maybe Invaders, though not really
|
^^
Total Eclipse The Lonliness of the long distance runner Montsegur
Good ones. Love them. |
new Iron Maiden topic...what band member would you like to meet, why did you pick them, and what would you ask them?
|
Harris:
Seriously, HOW can you write that well? |
Adrian. he is just so............
|
Steve Harris
I don't play bass, but he's my favorite bass player, and he's just awesome |
I'd ask Steve Harris to show me how to play a three-finger triplet with only two fingers (like "The Trooper"). How?!
|
^^^
hell, only takes a little practice, i can do it without thinking about it...but ive been playing for 7 years. if you use three fingers its easier to get your fingers jumbled up. Id ask Adrian how him and Janick get along and what solo's are his favourites of his, davey's, and janicks. |

gotta start somewhere, id say any of their songs are good practice, "caught somewhere in time" is a great practice because it has slower and faster triplets. i have the same type of bass (fender p) and pickups as steve, so that helps too hehe.

Its not hard at all to play with two fingers.. i have played for about as long as you,and do it fine, but every teacher i have had says im very talented (had nothing with topic to do :p) any way, i would like to meet Steve Harris (obvious).. Steve Harris is my biggest idol, and i strive to become as good as him. and im not sure what i would ask him... |
I'd meet murray! He is just so, WOW!
Hell...i'd meet any of them. I want to meet them all! But I wouldn't mind getting guitar lessons from Davey ;) |
I would like to meet Janick and I dont have a clue of what i would have asked him but I would hopefully get out some words!!!
|
I'd like to meet Nicko purely because he seems to be a completely insane kinda bloke with the same humour level as me...and that might happen because my dad's friend knows him :thumb:
If not a meeting then maybe some signed stuff :) |
Steve Harris: "So, now you get to find your first band and say, 'Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.' " Then he'd run away laughing like a maniac and finish the DVD he's working on.
|
I've been a Maiden fan since kindergarten (Literally). Recently I've been hearing people and columnists say that English Black/Goth Metal band, Cradle Of Filth, is the new generations answer to Iron Maiden, mainly because their British, have a unique singer, deal with somewhat Satanic themes, and have covered "Hallowed Be Thy Name" and "Fear Of The Dark". Now I think CoF is a great band, but saying something like that is a bit much. Has anyone else heard this, what do you think?
|
CoF cant compare to Iron Maiden
|
^^^^
COF are diehard Maiden fans, but dont play anyting like Iron Maiden. Though some of their harmonizations im sure came from being avid Iron Maiden fans. COF's cover of "hallowed be thy name" is incredible, a good black metal twist on an old classic without losing the key sound of the song. and COF dont sing about satanism in the least bit, Dani is more into depressing gothic love stories...though his ways of writing lyrics hardley show unless you pay attention to them.... but most importantly, Iron Maiden are a more tight knit band and i like them better in all aspcts :) , but i still love Cradle. |
its all about flight of icarus and hallowed be thy name for me.
