Bump!

ChordlessInCanada 12-21-2003 11:57 AM

Im pretty sure Kirk does most of the solos but James does do a few of them. nothing else matters for example, james did that one. Metallica frickin rules, they're the reason why i started playing guitar

kirk_wylde 12-21-2003 12:51 PM

Wow, Metallica last night was amazing, only two st. anger songs and Dirty window was made good with a 30 sec hammet solo. Plus lars playing guitar and kirk on drums lol

UntilItSleeps 12-21-2003 03:16 PM

yea i thought kirk wrote all the solos

Mustaine27 12-21-2003 03:31 PM

No Kirk Doesn't write all the solos......He hardly writes any infact. I've had this discussion to many times and it bores me.

People get credited when they think of solos. Kirk isn't credited very often through the first 5 albums. Something like 17 out of 47 songs. So yeah JAMES writes most of the solos....that clear things up for you?

ZildjianDummer 12-21-2003 03:34 PM

what other songs did metallica play that night?

Ramsey 12-22-2003 09:25 AM

bump.

btoto 12-22-2003 10:48 AM

i've never heard of metallica playing leper messiah live. what's really wrong with that song? i mean it's my favourite in MOP album. but i can't find any live video of it. except cunning stunts where they play only intro with jason on drums.

please tell me, don't they like that song?

bball_1523 12-22-2003 10:50 AM

Well, on all the solos he play there is always his mark on them....
Are you sure he dosen't write the solos?

I'm very sure. He writes quite a few and most of them are excellent, but he only became a Key writer after 1991.

Distorted Vision 12-23-2003 07:11 AM

I saw them Saturday night at Earl's Court. It was fucking incredible, I was at the barrier and the feeling was great. My first time seeing Metallica and they didn't let me down!

You must have got there pretty **** early to be at the barriers!

Did Kirk and Lars swap instruments? They seem to be making that a regular thing of theirs.

borisdablade 12-23-2003 07:16 AM

^^

What a crock of ****, of course kirk writes most of the main solos have you ever watched the making of the black album??? Thats all kirk does in the band, he goes off by himself to write the solo, comes back to james and lars (and from balck onwards rock too) and they **** with it till it fits the song right.

Mustaine27 12-23-2003 07:23 AM

Did you see him write all the solos by himself?

Is he credited for them?

on that exact "making of the black album" did you hear James say Enter Sandman was the first Riff Kirk wrote?

So that means if that was his first riff (which he was credited for) that would mean he would be credited for just solos before that spot in time..........right?

That would be why he's credited for writing 14 solos from Kill 'Em All to ....And Justice For All. This is why I'm making that assumption.

kirk_wylde 12-23-2003 09:37 AM

*bump*

superpeer 12-23-2003 09:45 AM

I think Kirk writes most of the solos, except where it is mentioned otherwise (Master of puppets, Nothing else matters,...)

And James writes the riffs

RockerGav 12-23-2003 10:52 AM

Yeah thats what I think as well.

Plus, most of Kirks solos don't take much writing talent as most are just wah pentatonic wankery. But on MOP it states where someone else plays a solo, meaning that it is Kirk unless otherwise stated.

bball_1523 12-23-2003 10:59 AM

Are any of you guys attending the Los Angeles Great Western Forum show on March 5th for the Metallica/Godsmack concert?

I checked ticketmaster for tickets, and apparently they sold out, which sucks because they possibly sold out in one day or something. Maybe tickets will pop up more as the weeks come.

UnderTone 12-23-2003 11:01 AM

yeah the first MOP solo was made by and played by james, and by my knowledge, that's the only solo he's got his hands on but it's illogical to think that they haven't influenced eachother on the riffs or solos somewhere along the line seeing as they are in the same band for more than 20years.

we all gonna die! 12-23-2003 12:45 PM

Whos going to see Metallica June 6 Download Festival? I know I am

SlaveToTheGrind 12-23-2003 12:46 PM

i have one small question..

I thought they kicked *** on saturday but a lot of people said their was crap sound. I saw them at Reading and the sound was a lot better.

kirk...

james has written some. IE. Nothing Else Matter's solo.

RHCPBass 12-23-2003 05:39 PM

Bump!!!!

timmccarty143 12-23-2003 08:39 PM

this supprised me but in the one video kirk uses single coil pickups does ne one know if he did this in the studio

MetalHitman24 12-23-2003 09:33 PM

Is anyone stilll on this ne more or am I too late?

LeadGuitarist 12-23-2003 10:04 PM

I'm going to the March 5th show. I got tickets during the presale. Good seats too! Can't wait 'til the show begins. I'm looking foward to seeing Kirk for the first time.

hex135 12-24-2003 01:02 AM

i got tix right when they came out 10 AM on saturday morning for the march 5th show, and they were balcony seats. (being the forum, thats not that bad, but still). apparently the show sold out EXTREMELY FAST! i dont think more will come, unless u get em through KROQ or scalpers at the show. best advice to see metallica live........JOIN THE METALLICA CLUB! u get presale tix, which guarantees pit seats (for the most part)

borisdablade 12-24-2003 04:35 AM

On the kirk writing solos thing also on and justice it says james does all melodies, harmonies, lyrics and the second solo on to live is to die. So either lars is a closet lead guitarist or kirk writes their solos.

kirk has a fender strat and a fernandes strat (thats in the one video) that he uses for studio work at times. Also on the unforgiven in san diego on binge and purge he uses a white fender strat with singles coils. Quality single coils are good for lead work (look at hendrix, blackmore, yngwie the list goes on), you only really need the hummers for that trademark tallica crunch in the rhythm sections.

xtreme_skatah 12-24-2003 04:53 AM

Who wrote the second solo in MoP? That is some awsome song writing.

Mustaine27 12-24-2003 04:55 AM

Alright, Alright! quit with the "who did what solos" because stupid fools like me and anyone else is gonna argue back and forth and its not worth it.

As far as I'm concerned nobody is right until somebody actually asks a member of Metallica who writes what solos.

Bomsen 12-24-2003 05:30 AM

Well, It's not very hard too hear who is playing what solos. You can definitly hear
Kirks mark on most of Metallicas solos. I belive he writes most of the solos.

kirk_wylde 12-24-2003 05:49 AM

I want to try and settle this solo argument once and for all. IMO to get writing credits surley that person has to have an intregal par in the song structe or lyrics. Just coming in and doing a solo over the top would probably not get you writing credits. Plus in a recent interview james said Kirk has always done ALL of the fast solos because he can't do them himself. And on the 14 or so songs kirk gets credited on (first Four albums) it probably means he did more than just the solo

RockerGav 12-24-2003 06:36 AM
Who wrote the second solo in MoP? That is some awsome song writing.
Kirk probably, but I would argue with the awesome song writing bit. The first one and the harmony interlude are genius, both written by James.

And the guy above me has it perfectly.
