This should explain.

ATM 06-24-2006 10:40 AM

Oh ok. I think what annoys me more is the glitch-hop that is becoming popular now. I like it to a degree, but sometimes it just does not flow at all.

Robert Crumb 06-24-2006 12:13 PM

Yeah, good party album. Interesting production, I first saw it at the radio station, a huge difference from the stuff they typically have/play. But it's cool.

I've always had a special place in my collection for E-40, so I'm not totally against hyphy. It is what it is.

ATM 06-24-2006 12:18 PM

So would something like UGK be hyphy because I love them.

Robert Crumb 06-24-2006 12:28 PM

Nah, UGK aren't reppin' that Yay Area.

ATM 06-24-2006 12:36 PM

Oh nevermind im stupid.

antiant 06-24-2006 02:39 PM

i like the hypy movement, plus the bay area has practically had a footing in all slang used today that is used in hip hop thanks to e-40 (for the most part) at any rate like anything else, there's 'good/bad' hyphy artists, it's mostly good party/bullshyt music, you know something to "go ignant" with, nothing serious...all fun...and on that note:

Knuckleheadz 06-24-2006 04:50 PM

Hyphy is the only modern rap worth listening to.

Thizzzzzzzzzz
Treaaaaaaaal
And thizz don't just mean pills
It means having fun
Going dumb
And going going going til the job is done

antiant 06-24-2006 05:19 PM

and of course...mac dre's thizz face! hahaha

slows_girl 06-25-2006 12:57 PM

Ok so honestly, Im new to this kind of rap, I used to be just into mainstream radio edited ****. However the guy Ive been with for the last 2 years listens to mac dre e-40 that kind of stuff and I like it a lot I just know nothing about it really, most the artists Id never even heard of and there is still a lot I dont know... tryin to learn I guess.

slows_girl 06-25-2006 01:01 PM

Thats one of my favorites, " the woman like me Im dipped in butta, ill rob ya brotha pimp the blood out ya motha... Im mistah stupid doo doo dumb, its somthin terrible tell em how we come"... That **** is so funny to me...

yeah...mac dre was a comedian, but also good at what he did...you can't help but laugh at some of the lyrics as he rhymed them

ATM 06-25-2006 01:13 PM

Man, I got a Big L album and it is blowing me away.

gaslight 06-26-2006 04:27 AM

Do any of you guys know some good instrumental hip-hop, stuff like Paso Bionic's solo album?

deathscreamingsheep 06-27-2006 02:14 PM

True Live isn't instrumental, but I really love the instrumental parts.

gaslight 06-28-2006 07:19 AM

I've heard lots about them but I haven't been able to find any of their stuff anywhere.

ATM 06-28-2006 07:29 AM

Cornelius is a Japanese artist who has some hip hop tinged stuff. You should look into him.

Flagjacket 06-28-2006 09:33 PM

There's a new CD out from a West Coast artists called Franchise, and it's really good.

PS: I like The Game.

Yeah, he's awesome. Fantasma's a great album.

I actually posted one of their songs in the Aussie Gig Guide. It'll have expired by now, but I'll try and put it back up for you.

Anyway, the reason for my post. Yesterday I was riding in a mates car, and he put this Immortal Technique song on (Dance With The Devil), and said, just listen to the lyrics. So I did, and it was one of the most hard hitting hip hop songs I've ever heard. Is the rest of his stuff similar to this, with really good lyrics? Not necessarily as extreme, and which album of his would you guys recommend me getting first?

yes, he's worth a listen...listen to everything he has, it really doesn't matter where you start because everything is legit, but if i had to pick, start with the first album Revolutionary Vol. 1 and just work your way through

dUSK 06-29-2006 12:41 AM

Will do. Cheers man. :thumb:

They have a myspace page with music, though not their best songs by a long shot IMO.

You guys ever heard Grand Buffet?

Kaden 07-01-2006 03:44 PM

I've got a quick question about live rap music. I'm going to Lollapalooza in August, and some of the acts that will be there are Kanye, Common, Lyrics Born, and Blackalicious, and I'm wondering how rap is usually done live. Specifically, do they usually have a live band or just the beats playing while they rap along?

I hope it's not the second way, cause that sounds lame and dissaopointing.

ATM 07-01-2006 05:32 PM

I just saw Lyrics Born at Bonnaroo and he did have a live band.

Kanye probably wouldn't, but Blackalicious and Common most likely would.

Atmosphere used a DJ for the first half of his set, and a live band for the second half.

Is it lame with the DJ? Cause it seems like it would just be karaoke.

JonM 07-02-2006 08:36 AM
Common most likely would.
Not only does he, they make his music WAY BETTER onstage. The DJ he's been bringing around is this shiiiiiiiiiit.

I know exactly how you feel, because before I saw Atmosphere I was worried about the same thing.

It really isnt, though, as long as the DJ is good and the rapper can work the crowd.

Also, Lyrics Born will not dissapoint, and I can say that for a fact because I saw him a few weeks ago.

Sweet. I really want to see Lyrics Born, but he conflicts with Calexico which most of my friends would rather see. I'm trying to convince them.

ATM 07-02-2006 11:20 AM

Damn that is a tough choice, because Calexico put on a great show too. Go see half of them and half of LB.

Kaden 07-02-2006 11:29 AM

I would, but the stages are aparently like a 20 minute walk apart, which makes it impossible for me to see several bands I'd love to see.

I also have to miss Gnarls Barkley so I have time to walk to Blackalicious.
And, I still have to choose between Common and The Flaming Lips, which is tearing me up inside.

ATM 07-02-2006 11:59 AM

Argh, that is tough. I had to miss Blackalicious and some of Common's set at Bonnaroo because they didnt go on until 2:30am and I was exhausted :-/

That sucks hard.

!aaa! 07-02-2006 02:02 PM

On the new Busta Rhymes video (Touch It remix, which also features DMX and Sean Paul) there's this guy wearing this yellow leather jacket who has really great vocal delivery and flow but I have absolutely no idea who this dude was.

Any help?

Rams 07-02-2006 03:08 PM

Spliff Star of Flipmode Squad I believe.

Rams 07-05-2006 12:50 AM

the new J5 CD is really good.

ATM 07-08-2006 08:11 AM

Yea, I'm going to download it.

gaslight 07-08-2006 08:16 AM

Do we talk about musicians who work in hip hop as well in here or just the producers/vocalists?

DanD 07-08-2006 11:50 PM

I just listened to the new Jurassic 5. I didn't really like it. I dunno, I give it another listen sometime and see what I think.
