Any news on the new album?

RetiredAt21 09-27-2005 12:21 AM

I haven't heard a thing about it.

maco 09-27-2005 07:45 AM

Only Jerry Finn (no Butch Vig) is producing it. Mikey said so yesterday. He also says, "2 4 15" and no one knows what that means, but it will probably lead to more theories. Someone suggested it was "February 4, 15 songs" or "2 April, 15 songs" but those are a Saturday and Sunday, and cds only come out on Tuesdays. Ryan Wilson has also confirmed that he's doing backing vox on the new album.

RetiredAt21 09-27-2005 12:28 PM

Who is Ryan Wilson?

El_Shiznit 09-27-2005 02:19 PM

I don't know. Did a search for "Ryan Wilson" and came up with baseball, soccer, track, etc. players. Did a google search for "Ryan Wilson music" and came up with this:

http://www.waldenscoffeehouse.com/performers-PQR-RyanWilson.shtml

RetiredAt21 09-27-2005 02:21 PM

Interesting...I wonder if that's the guy he was talking about.

El_Shiznit 09-27-2005 02:23 PM

Somehow I doubt it, but you never know.

maco 09-27-2005 08:00 PM

I have noooo idea. There's also an actor. I thought maybe you guys would know who he was as you all have muuuuuch better knowledge of music than I do. Except *maybe* in ska, but even then I can't go "Jerry Dammers played keys for the Specials" well, ya know, except that it's the Specials and that one I really do know, but with any other band....f'uck if I know

maco 09-27-2005 10:52 PM

omg omg omg! I was just watching the music video for Point the Blame by Catch 22 and when they showed the drummer, I saw a white A on his shirt and went "Was that an AFI shirt?" cuz it was the font...then later I saw it again and I went back and paused it. It's definitely the Porphyria shirt. Go here and click on "watch" next to Catch 22 Point the Blame (last one on the page) I also saw someone in the crowd on there wearing the same A-F shirt as I have.

danson 09-28-2005 01:10 AM

For a while there i was obsessed with this band after discovering them thanks to the Misfits and fell in love with Sing The Sorror but never really looked at their back catalogue. I went a while no listening to the band and go into hardcore more and got some of their older albums and have loved them ever since.
What i really like about this band is the Bass Licks that Hunter uses which aren't that super techinically hard but sound amazing.

RetiredAt21 09-28-2005 01:03 PM

Hunter is an awesome bass player. He's one of my favorites.

maco 09-29-2005 05:35 PM

Any of you guys have the String Quartet Tribute? I just bought it and it's really good. However, they need to learn to do tracklistings. Classically, they mixed up The Last Kiss and A Weathered Tome; the rest of it has only one song (Lower Your Head and Take it in the Body), I think, in the proper place.

maco 10-04-2005 02:19 PM

Shizzy, do you have the unmastered versions of Spoken Word and Head Like a Hole? I'm missing those 2 mp3s. Oh, and can I have your Born in the US of A mp3? Mine doesn't have the whole song.

El_Shiznit 10-04-2005 11:34 PM

Nah, I don't have you first two. But I will give you Born In The USA tomorrow.

StruckEverywhere 10-04-2005 11:40 PM
Nah, I don't have you first two. But I will give you Born In The USA tomorrow.
YOU need to go on soulseek more often.

Excursions 10-05-2005 12:14 AM

So ... me and Sam are going to see AFI and laugh at them.

StruckEverywhere 10-05-2005 12:42 AM

Oh yeah, forgot about that.

Nah, I don't have you first two. But I will give you Born In The USA tomorrow.
K thanks. Someone on myspace just said they have the unmastered HLAH, so I'll get that off of him and pass it on to you. Then we need to find someone with a STS test pressing to rip that mp3 ;)

Bollocks to AFI at Big Day Out. I'm front and centre for the Stooges, with a big "IGGY" carved into my chest and a huge banner saying "Iggy Pop I Want To Be Your Dog"

maco 10-05-2005 07:44 PM
Is that the big Despair Faction news on the front page? Are they playing anywhere else?

And maco, I'll get the song to you when I can. Probably tomorrow. I got that day off work and school.
The DF news is that if you live in CA, are 18+, and can get your ass to Hollywood on the 15th, you can enter a sweepstakes on the DF site to sing background vox on the new album.

ok thanks

AIRIC 10-05-2005 08:06 PM

So basically that track will suck because they're goign to pick some idiot off teh street.

im not punk 10-05-2005 08:09 PM

**** Afi

RIP Ian Curtis 10-05-2005 08:10 PM

I would go and see them at the BDO, but it'll be too full of emo kids and lame poser goths. And I want to be right up the front for The Stooges and The White Stripes.

Excursions 10-05-2005 08:49 PM

Mike Watt is going to be playing bass for The Stooges, amirite? He better be is all I can say.

RIP Ian Curtis 10-05-2005 08:58 PM

Yeha, he's playing for the stooges.

What the hell did he do before the stooges? Everyone is going hog wild over him and I've never heard of the bastard.

Excursions 10-05-2005 09:12 PM

He was in the Minutemen, after D.Boon died he went on to form fIREHOSE. He has also released solo stuff as well as preforming and recording with Dos a band with his wife/ex wife Kira who was in Black Flag (two bass band).

In other words he is a really good bassist.

RIP Ian Curtis 10-05-2005 09:19 PM

Ahhhh.
Thanks a bunch hey, nobody was saying who he was and I was kinda embarassed to ask. He'll look kinda funny onstage with all the ancient stooges.

I keep thinking your yellow black flag album cover is spongebob squarepants, and wondering to myself what the hell spongebob is doing in a montage of black flag albums.

yeoldetattoosupply 10-05-2005 11:10 PM

they kick ***

maco 10-06-2005 12:51 PM
So basically that track will suck because they're goign to pick some idiot off teh street.
I think it's going to be a group of people and that they're going to do "shout-alongs" like with the old chant when there's like 10 people going "through our bleeding"

_ThisSecretNinja_ 10-07-2005 06:28 AM

You guys heard the new **** (which is presumably from the new album) on the new site? Sounds pretty awesome to me

http://afireinside.net/temp.html

maco 10-07-2005 07:42 AM

omg omg omg that's awesome! Sounds like VNV Nation a bit....electronic-fun! Weeeee! I like this music. Now, how long til the new album? This is making me antsy iwantitiwantitiwantit

El_Shiznit 10-07-2005 11:49 AM

I like it too. I didn't at first, but after I kept listening to it, I began to enjoy it more. This a a lot different, but then again I expected it to be.

I think the reaction is going to be kind of weird. And I was thinking to myself just a second ago. This band does something different every LP (except VPOY). So even if you don't like their new stuff, there's no need to dwell on it since they might be going for something completely different the next time.

maco, what's your e-mail? I don't want to YSI.

maco 10-07-2005 01:46 PM

I just think that unless the 80s come back in full force, the pop stations won't play AFI nearly as much as they did during STS. Then again, I've been hearing a lot more synthed music lately, so maybe the 80s are on the way back in. Hey, Bowling for Soup covered Modern English's "Melt With You" and made a video of it and now they've got a "Punk Goes 80s" compilation out at Hollister, so who knows?

G-Un0t 10-07-2005 01:48 PM

Very Proud Of Ya is my fav album. Not bad of a band.

Maverick_Special 10-07-2005 01:52 PM

I was never a big fan of AFI...I never really liked Davey Havoc he was kinda gay and to over the top goth for me. I do like their old stuff a little and it is 110% times better than any of their new goth-punk/emo trash.

maco 10-07-2005 05:04 PM
