Black metal guitar?

You have got to be shitting me...I mean wow, just wow.

I'm Charming 11-17-2005 01:43 AM

Trivium seems to be ,

Thrash/metalcore to me

loathed 11-17-2005 03:06 AM

they're pretty trash influenced...but still general metal for me

I'm Charming 11-17-2005 03:18 AM

I see some metalcore in them. With the breakdowns.

KittensInMicrowaves 11-17-2005 09:15 AM
Wow it must really suck then.

Who does Trivium remind you of the most?
They have a unique sound, but they seem to be a mix of thrash, Gothenburg, and metalcore. Some of the soloing reminds me of Megadeth

Thats a good description.I dont think the thrash sound is as prevalent as maybe the metalcore and Gothenburg. Most of their songs arent quite what Id call 'fast' when compared to thrash bands like Kreator(old stuff, not the new Gothenburgish stuff, which I do love btw) and Death Angel, and are much more "mid-fast" pace like Gothenburg bands. And they are pretty metalcore with the occasional breakdown and clean singing parts."Dying In Your Arms" reaks of metalcore(which I also love btw).

I agree. I love the dualing leads

And the harmony soloing in Gunshot.Spectacular.
A hybrid between Atreyu and Trash/black metal guitars...
Sorry people, once again my idiot little brother has decided to make me look stupid by posting using my account.

Anyway i reckon they're a trash influenced Metalcore band at this point, their riff's, while not entirely metalcore, still hold all the breakdowns and call signs of a metalcore riff. The speed obviously is what gives it it's thrash feel, and the vocals are definatly metalcore at the moment. Although i saw Matt saying that they were taking out the gutteral vocals and replacing them with 90's Hetfield style vocals...
Personally i love Matt's studio voice on Ascendancy, but hey, im willing to see how they fare in the next album. Although all respect again to Matt as a guitarist but he can't sing clean vocals live.

Britton 11-19-2005 01:42 PM

Oh God I hope he gets some Hetfield vocals. That way he will be able to sing
the rest if his life

Unnamed_One 11-21-2005 01:10 AM

Yes, I see alot of potential in the band and they're not too bad, it would just be a shame for them to try and change their style too drastically due to all of the media attention they have been getting (god knows fame and money has changed alot of people). Personally I don't think that the instrumentals are bad at all, as a side note.

You know he wants to, he acts like Hetfield so much on stage.

For all you know he has gotten proper lessons on how to scream. Not all screamers will ruin their vocal chords.

Im in a metal band that has a screamer and he has watched this video called the zen of screaming and it tells you how to correctly scream.

i am the robots 11-21-2005 08:13 AM

Yeah, if you've read reviews from anybody who's see them in the past month, he hasn't lost his voice and his clean vocals have greatly improved.

blacksorrows 11-21-2005 08:37 AM
no actually i DID go to Matt's middle school, Teague middle school here in Orlando, FL. I just turned 18.
lmao thats my surname.. sorry if this is random, but that name is probably the most rare name ever here (Northern Ireland) so one of my favourite all time bands had one of their members go to a school with my name :D

But you can tell he isn't screaming properly. When you come away hurting like he says he does that's not good. And yes the zen of screaming is really good...maybe we should pull our money together and buy Matt a copy.

also on another note Matt is in Guitar world this month asking Kirk some questions

I think Trivium would not be as good with all clean vocals, I think next album he should experiment with some death vocals instead of his usual screams. He did death vocals for Capharnaum, why not Trivium also?

nowitzki 11-22-2005 01:38 PM

I've been listening to both Trivium albums for the first time in a while today, it reminded me how good this band really are.
They are way too good to be getting all the exposure they are ;)

Britton 11-22-2005 01:40 PM

The production on Ascendancy is beautifull

I do believe that Jason Suecof executed the death vocals on Fractured

Hmm you might be right...I'm not sure though.

I do want some screaming. But not from Matt the other guys can scream too
so I hope one of them steps up and takes the Screaming. That way Matt
can still "Sing"

Is it any good? I've only heard one song
Is it any good? I've only heard one song
Very different than Trivium. Its technical death metal, but not of the unlistenable variety. You can tell its Matt when he is doing vocals, but the music is very different than Trivium

Cool Beans 11-24-2005 01:53 AM
Some of the soloing reminds me of Megadeth
'Cause alot of it's ripped from Marty Friedman

Don't get me wrong though, Corey Beaulieu has some sick skills.

Whereabouts in Northern Ireland you from? I take it you went to see Trivium in Belfast in September. How fooking awesome was that? I got to meet the whole band backstage afterwards. It was amazing. Can't wait 'til March when they come back :chug:

WhatAHorribleNight 11-24-2005 08:23 PM
Only on 2 tracks dude... Matt was lead vocals, I have the album
Matt still didn't do "death" vocals on Fractured. Even though, I enjoyed that album more than most technical death albums because the vocals were somewhat different for a change.

Britton 11-24-2005 11:00 PM

I'm gonna see them on Dec 2 (how many times am I gonna say that?)

I can't wait for the circle pit

sonicst0rm 11-24-2005 11:11 PM

i really like the album Fractured by Capharnaum, it's not too extreme and it's really listenable (like someone said already)... all around pretty awesome. trivium is cool too.

Lieutenant Dan 11-25-2005 12:31 AM

Corey Beaulieu= The Sh!t.

KaOtIc 11-25-2005 06:56 AM

to me Matts vocals on Fractured sound identical to his Trivium vocals all the low death metal stuff is Jason. Dont get me I love Capharnaum and Trivium but Matts screaming is the same in both

Britton 11-25-2005 01:37 PM
Corey Beaulieu= The Sh!t.
I love the dualling leads thatTrivium does

jonnyward 11-27-2005 11:07 AM

benfan 11-28-2005 03:35 PM

Jenny 12-02-2005 09:38 AM

Jenny 12-02-2005 09:40 AM

holy crap. I must've posted that a really long time ago, I visit this thread out of chance today and this is what I find lol What a coincidence.
Yeah I reckon Teague is a rare name, I actually havent heard too many people with that last name.

I'm planning to go see Trivium with COB on monday. It should be a good show. Those two plus Amon Amarth should be a nice break from the monotony of school work/not going to shows for 3 months. Hopefully I can actually make it to the concert. Missing the Opeth show in tampa after already getting my ticket was a huge blow to my morale so I'm desperate for a good show.

I hope Matt's screaming improves on the next album because thats what really ruins Trivium for me. Like i stated a long time ago, his screaming is too monotonous and metal-core-ish, it would be nice if he added more raspy-ness to it ala Wintersun. Also, he needs to stop autotuning his singing voice so heavily, it really sounds annoying. I've seen live vids/live shows and he doesnt sing ANY where near as good as on the cd, which should say something. Oh well, at least hes pretty good at guitar and the rest of the band is pretty kick a$$ (especially Corey).:thumb:
