Don't worry, I agree. |
Dream Theater, although they are a great band, the last couple of albums Jordan Rudess has had a huge impact on the sound of DT. They do sound like they are in a sport. Rudess always plays everything to the nth degree, and I think JP wanted to keep up with him. and labrie should die, or at least get fired.
Anyways enough about DT. Rush. To adress some points made throughout the thread.I don't understand people that say 'they are wankers', becuase of all prog bands out there, Rush IMO has been way more subtle with their talent than other prog bands. They Have always been about the song, and about the melody. Alex's solos have always been short and to the point, and always fits the song. Ive always Loved his playing style. Geddy's bass playing/keyboard playing are extremely melodic. People see him playing and think he is wanking when he is really carrying the melody. As far as his vocals, they may be a bit high, but holy crap, Zeppilin's frontman sounded like a toddler crying after getting yelled at by his mommy, and NO ONE ever complains about his vocals. Pert is an amazing drummer. Theres not much I can say about Pert. Anyone who thinks he is underrated needs to watch the Live in RIO DVD and watch him playing polyrhythms during the drum solo. Their longevity is a wonder to me. I saw them a couple years ago, (same tour as Live in Rio), and I had chills up my spine for the entire show. It was up there with Tool for me. To say it was spiritual isn't really right, but it felt important in that way. They opened with Tom sawyer. omfg. Alex has done the opposite of most ageing musicians and has turned the distortion up. All the songs sound way heavier live than on the record. What A great show. (although I didnt get the washing machines) The acoustic Resist was a cool beak in the show. I encourage everyone to try to see them once, especially if your not a very big fan. I think you'd 'get it' after seeing them live. They had super-quality sound, and they played forever. My favorite Rush era is the 80's stuff, namely Natural Science and Subdivions.(THEY PLAYED NATURAL SCIENCE LIVE AHAHAHH HAHAHA! but no subdivions :( )I think that was their most experimental time. Test For Echo, Counterparts, and Vapor Trails are also great albums. As far as vapor Trails, I think seeing it live was how it was meant. Earthshine live was awesome, as were the other new tunes. If anyone knows a way to get free dvd to mpeg maybe I could YSI a couple tracks from the Live In Rio dvd. |
Rush's drummer is awesome

Good to see you round3r. :) I wasn't sure what had become of you, glad to see you're ok.

I like La Villa Strangiato better, if just because of the ups and downs it goes through, great range of music. Plus, there's the awesome skill involved. |
Hey I'm a big Rush fan but don't have lots of time on my pc so I spend most of my time
in the Tallica or Guitar threads can some one upload some Rush for me? I love working man and I've been trying to learn it but my old record has lots of scrathes and popping so it's kinda hard to hear proper notes if you could that would be great |
Ahhh no! Geddy is famous for his voice, you can't say that. IMO, I love his voice.. it's really a great voice. It's defintely something you need to get used to though. But it's one of those voice's like Robert Plant's.. you hear it and you know exactly who it is.
I hate it when people do that smoking smiley face guy when they want people to think they're cool. I mean come on, drum wankage? |
We've also come to the conclusion that Geddy is an awesome, I think :)

Anybody know if Rush will be going back on tour anytime soon?
|
I think their working on another original album soon, if not now, and then theyll be touring again. A few pages back i did a ton of research on modern things their coming out with, like their R30 DVD and some other info on their new stuff. I dont remember if i gave a new tour date, but you can expect around mid/end 06 Id assume. Might take longer depending on the amount of stage effects they need to buy and setup
|
When was Vapor Trails released anyway? Was it any good?
|
released in 2002. Its there most recent studio album, and responsible (and named) for their 30th reunion tour. I think it's one of their best recent albums within the past decade or so, but it's opinion.
Some peoples dislikes include - No 'real' guitar solos, lack of keyboard/synth used by geddy, heavier sound I think it's a great album though. I would defintaly agree that if your into heavier/harder stuff, then Id suggest it before their other '83 and on albums, and the guitar work is layered fabulously. Yea theirs a few **** bombs, but generally it's a solid piece of work. And the cover art owns :thumb: |
That's some good info. No guitar solos is unlike Alex Lifeson :(

I stated a few pages back their working on a new album and touring again soon; if thats where you think you heard it from. But if not, did you find out when their gonna tour again, or if their working on their new now or in the newar future? I uploaded a few albums today, and it took a majority of time of the day on the comp, so be grateful! ATTN: If anybody has the following albums, could you send me them in a zipped folder? When i send out the albums, i want to put them all in order and in one email. Ill cite your username on the album uploaded. Make sure you say which format its in. Rush (dubut album) Fly By Night Farewell To Kings Hemispheres All The Worlds a Stage A Show Of Hands I either cant upload them or dont have em available at the moment. Email to Echoes4258@comcast.net. If you could do it on Megaupload.com too (other then YSI), that would be even better. Thanks in advance. :thumb: |
If you were only looking for one album than I'd probably help. But with five seperate ones, all of which are generally readily available in a music store or even in places like Borders', I won't, because it's senseless to do that and cheat the band you like out of their money. If you like Rush, why don't you just wait to save up enough money to buy them legally?
|
Im sopporting everybody else who hasnt yet heard them. I doubt anybody will upload or steal all their albums, but im trying to help out the ones who need more albums by them who need to get exposed, or at least one from each of the 3 phases of their career.
But since you stated the word legally, were you implying that of using megaupload or downloading the music on p2p programs? just need clarification, because i actually own most my rush albums, the other few were from friends. CAnt wait to buy the remaining few i need though :) |
I can upload Farewell to Kings in .wma format.. Is that ok?
|
yea pretty much m4a/mp4s are near impossible to transcribe for me. That and any AAC (usually protected files).
Sorry if your offended or anything Cain. Im just trying to help the fans - or soon to be fans. |
I have your s/n.. right? Your echoes or something so I'm pretty sure I'm on your buddylist. Im sinpes21 btw
i'll IM you when it's done uploading |
Well i wont be on AIM tonight, i gotta go soon anyway. you can email it to me Echoes4258@comcast.net
Any other contributations are welcome! Rush (dubut album) Fly By Night Hemispheres All The Worlds a Stage A Show Of Hands |
